III. PRESENTING PROBLEM

Joshua is currently in his 4th year college and is about to graduate this month of December.
However, due to financial constraint, he is hard up copping up in providing the means for his
school needs. Hence, he needs financial help to sustain his school needs until he graduate.

IV. UNDERLYING PROBLEM

Although he has a biological father, but he has his own family to support and that he has a half-
brother who needs medical maintenance due physical illness.
The father source of income as a vendor is not enough for the medical needs of his half-brother;
hence, he cannot oblige the former to financially support his school needs. Despite Joshua’s
receiving scholarship allowance amounting to 500 pesos a month from a non-government
organization and a pension allowance of 600 pesos a month from the social security system
insurance of his biological mother.

Client’s Background

Joshua grew up without the presence of his maternal parents. His biological mother passed away
when he was barely 5 years old and never met his maternal mother until when he is in his lower
elementary school days.

Joshua is now in his 4th year in his course by the Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering
in one of the State University in Cebu City. He relies on grants ever since he was in his
elementary up to this day. Accordingly, when he was in his elementary, a foreign person who
happened has been helping children like him in their school needs since elementary and high
schools are of free tuition fee but now he is a working student as electrical worker in Cebu light
and Power Company because he wants to sustain his basic needs and his academic.

Family Background

Currently, Joshua is staying in the city of Cebu since he is studying, but, he often goes home to
the province especially during school breaks to help his aunt and his paternal cousin whom he
considered as “big brother.” Whenever he is in the province, he do some household works in
their neighborhoods and sometimes do electrical works which he had learned in the school in
order for him to have allowance when he goes back to the city.

Joshua’s cannot seek for their assistance now because His maternal uncle whom he lives within
the city is not also economically well off with a source of income as a retailer vendor but his
uncle want him to work with him so that Joshua can provide .

He is thankful with them as they are the ones providing his basic needs when he is in the city and
his only share is the apartment rental and sometimes he shared for the utility bills.

V.ASSESSMENT

Despite of Joshua and his family economic struggles ever since he was young; his uncle
built a strong foundation for him to pursue his dreams. As such, Joshua grew up to be an
independent, determined and full of positive outlook in life. The kind of characteristics and
experiences made him strong and his grit led him now by the help of his uncle.

Reaching college and a few months from now will be able to graduate is already a development
for him as an individual. It is very hard for him to lose his mother at a young age but because of
the presence of his loving uncle; he was able to beat all the challenges that have come in his way.
Hence, the economic struggle is not new to him and he has the determination; hence, surely he
can graduate and achieve his dreams. A young fellow like him will likely to be successful in the
future as the experiences will guide him to continue improve his self and his current situation.

VI.TREATMENT PLAN

General Objectives:

Joshua will be able to receive financial assistance through University Student’s Assistance
Program for him to concentrate in his school performance to enable him to join the graduation
this year, Link Joshua in other government welfare services office where he could seek
assistance from them if the school assistance program will not meet his needs and Conduct
constant communication and advises in preparation for his job hunt that align in his course.

VII. EVALUATION

The financial need is the immediate needs that need to be addressed so that he will be able to
fulfill all the necessary requirements in order for him to graduate. In this connection, the
financial assistance is deemed necessary. Nevertheless, when he graduates, he can now
concentrate looking for a job that will enable him to help his family.

VII. RECOMMENDATION

At present, despite the scholarship allowances has he received from the non-government
organization; these do not suffice to sustain his school needs now which affects his school
performance, hence the following are recommended:

 Financial Assistance to ease his financial struggle and concentrate in his school
performance.
 Assistance in the form linking him to other welfare agencies that can helped him in case
the university cannot provide financial assistance now.
 Constant, advices and assistance in preparation for his electrical job hunt as well as his
plan of putting up an online travel and tours after graduation while he simultaneously
look for a stable job.
