2. Learning style

According to Fleming J. (2001) in Pritchard A. (2008), there are four learning styles how people
collect information:

1. Visual: This kind of learners tends to learn by seeing things. For example: Charts, graphs,
diagrams or symbols.

2. Auditory: This type of learners prefers to learn by listening through lectures, tutorials or
group discussions.

3. Reading: This type of learners prefer to learn through reading books, novels, magazines
and newspapers.

4. Kinesthetic: This kind of learners prefers to learn by practically doing things. They very
good at remembering things and physical experiencing with memory.

I have done the VARK learning model questionnaire (version 7.8, 2019) to identify my learning
style, the results will be described in the figure bellow:

Figure 1. VARK test’s result (accessed through vark-learn.com [28 April 2019])

5
The test’s score in Figure 1. proven that I am a multimodal learner. This means that I am
flexible about the way I give and receive information in each different activities/ learning
scenarios. I am keen to learn with several modes switched on to assist my learning, and I do
require a long time to collect all of the information that I require to learn a new task or take
on new skills.

In actual facts, I often try to listen and gather the information of the issue that the lecturer
described, then, investigate all of the components that may relate to the issue (through
books, webpages) and re-arranging them into graphs or mind maps. After finishing the
investing process, I can easily solve or finish the task without any problem.

With this learning style, the methods to solve a problem can be clearly described step by step,
by combining many learning styles. However, combining with one of my characteristics:
Overthink things, this learning style usually makes myself spending more time to investigate
things that sometimes not really related to the subject, so that will slowdown entire process.

6
3. Motivators

I have undertaken a motivational behavior test (accessed through seemypersonality.com [28

April 2019]) and the results are as follows:

Figure 2. My motivational behavior report

Actually, I am a very motivated person. I’m usually have a strong drive for completing
important tasks, but only when I feel that the task is important enough. I’m very motivated by
seeking rewards. The offer of a reward (such as a promotion for working hard) will helps me
to focus on a task and get it done, disregard of its difficulties.

Moreover, I’m also motivated to avoid things that I don’t like (including activities or parties
that I don’t enjoy).

7
4. Myers-Briggs type indicator

I have undertaken the Myers-Briggs Test (Accessed through 16personalities.com [28 April
2019]) and my result as follows:

Figure 3. Myers-Briggs test’s result

My type is: ENFP-A. That indicates that I am an extraverted person, fiercely independent and
always craving for freedom and creativity. I tend to see life as a big, complex puzzle where
everything is connected through a prism of emotion, compassion and mysticism, and always
looking for a deeper meaning.

I am always fascinated by new ideas, both in terms of developments in fields that I’m already
familiar with, and when new subjects come along. This characteristic makes me to propel
myself further and deeper than others are willing or able to go.

8
As in the team-leader role, I would always prefer to establish real friendships, and use my
broad popularity to inspire and motivate, taking on the role of leader, working alongside my
subordinates, listen and understand their perspectives, rather than shouting from behind my
desks. I believe that this leading style will help to smooth things over and adapt to the needs
of my team.
