Lesson Plan in Mathematics 9

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end the lesson, the students should be able to:

a. determine the relationship between the trigonometric ratios and their

equivalence;
b. draw triangles illustrating the six trigonometric ratios, and;
c. relate the six trigonometric ratios into real-life situations.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

A. Topic: Triangle Trigonometry

B. Reference: Internet, DepEd Mathematics 9
C. Materials: Laptop, projector, ruler, protractor, and activity sheets

III. PROCEDURE
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
A. Preliminary Activities
1. Prayer
“Good morning, class!” “Good morning, Sir!”
“Let us pray first… Amen. ” (One student will the prayer)

2. Checking of Attendance
"Class beadle kindly present the “Sir, everyone is present for our class
attendance of the class" today"

3. Checking and Collecting of Assignments

"Class, did I give you any assignments?
"None, Sir."
Very well then.

4. Review
"Before we proceed with our new lesson this
morning, let us first recall the lesson we had "Sir, our previous lesson was all about
last meeting, is anyone from the class can the Pythagorean Theorem"
recall our last discussion?"

"Very good, now can someone tell me

something about the theorem?" "Sir, the length of the hypotenuse is
equal to the sum of the square of two
legs and we have the formula of c² =
a² + b²

" Sir, we have...

Fantastic, now from the given triangle, can
you identify the legs of which is the opposite,
the adjacent, the angle, and the
hypotenuse?

"Where, leg o is the opposite side, leg

a is the adjacent side, h as the
hypotenuse and θ as the reference
angle."

Excellent.

5. Motivation
Trivia
"Class, we all know that triangles comes in
many variations we have equilateral,
isosceles, right, obtuse, and acute triangles.
But did you know that the triangles is the
strongest shape? Try creating a shape out of
sticks joined with hinges for example square
with or without force it will turned into a
parallelogram but not for triangles. Triangles
are becoming used more in construction.
They are harder to use than rectangles, but
can be stronger and may be more resistant
to earthquakes. That's why we have some
landmarks like this.
"Yes, Sir."

B. Lesson Proper

1. Presentation of the topic

"Class, before we can build or create the
triangle that we desire we need to
determine and solve its measurements such
as sides and angles. Do you agree class?"

"Very good"

"Of course, we know already how to solve "Sir we have side a as our opposite
for the sides right?" and c as the hypotenuse then,
Sin ϴ = a/c
"Yes, very good. But can we solve the
measurement of angles using the theorem?"

Then, anyone who knows already of the

topic this morning?

Very good. Our topic this morning is about "Sir, just like the first ratio for sine
solving measurements of a triangle with the where a as the opposite side, b as the
use of the six trigonometric ratios. adjacent and c as the hypotenuse we
have:
2. Discussion For Cosine ratio: Cos ϴ = b/c
Let's have this illustration. For Tangent ratio: Tan ϴ = b/a

a c "Yes, Sir"

θ
b

In solving triangles given an angle ϴ and the legs, we

use the ratios represented by the mnemonics SOH-
CAH-TOA where this represents the relationship
between the parts of the triangle using Sine, Cosine
and Tangent ratios.

First is SOH, it stands for Sin ϴ = Opp/Hyp or we read

it as Sine Theta is equal to opposite over hypotenuse.
Based on the given illustration who will identify and
write the equation using the opposite and the
hypotenuse side in the Mnemonic SOH.
"Very good, in the Cosine ratio represented by
mnemonic CAH and Tangent as TOA where:

C = Cosine Theta
A = Adjacent side
H = Hypotenuse
T = Tangent
O = Opposite

Based on the illustration, who will write the exact

ratio for Cosine and and Tangent?

Excellent, these ratios are very important to

remember because this will help you solve
measurement of the triangle given only limited
information like sides and angles.

Did you get it?
