An induction motc.r is one in which thc magnetic fit:ld in the rotor is incluced by
curients flclwing in the stator windrng. The rotor has no connection whatsoever to the line. tt
Ciffers from the synchronous motor, the rotor of the induction motor does not rotate as fast as
the rotating field in the arrnature. The annature difference in speed is called thc slip. The siip
is usually exprcsscd as a percentage of slmchronous speecl.
