Date November 15, 2017
I. Objectives Content Standard: Students should be able to:
Demonstrate understanding of the key concepts of
combinatorics and probability
Performance Students should be able to use precise counting
Standard: technique and probability in formulating conclusions and
making decisions
Learning M10SP-IIIa-2
Competency Code: Derives the formula for finding the number of
permutations of n objects taken r at a time
Objective: Write mathematical expressions to represent situations
involving permutations
II. Content Statistics and Probability
Suppose we have six different potted plants and we wish to arrange 4 of them in a row.
In how many ways can it be done? Note that n=6 and r=4 , therefore,
The permutation of 6 potted plants can be expressed/denoted by P(6,4) , P6,4, 6P4 or P64
Application:
Express the following permutations:
1. How many four digit numbers can be formed from the numbers 1,4, 6, 8,
and 9?
2. In how many ways can place 9 different books if there is space enough for
only 5 books?
Activity:
Refer to Activity 2: count me in! (From 5-10) express them in permutation form.
Generalization:
How do we denote n objects taken r at a time?
Evaluation:
Formulate at least 5 problems and express it as permutation.
