Abstract
PURPOSE: This study aimed to improve the reading levels of Grade 8 students of Villa Perez
National High School.
FINDINGS: There were 8 non-readers before the implementation of Project EAR and found out that
there were reading issues among Grade 8 students who require an intervention program
to improve their reading ability. After the implementation of the intervention, the non-
readers turn to 4 and there was an increase in the number of independent readers.
RESEARCH LIMITATION/IMPLICATION: The goal of the study was to improve the reading
levels of the Grade 8 students in Villa Perez National High School. In this research, the
researcher used the intervention program called Project EAR. Also, this study was
quantitative and used a quasi-experimental research methodology. Project EAR has been
implemented since the first quarter of School Year 2022-2023. The researcher employed
the results of both the Phil-IRI pretest and first quarter posttest to assess the students’
reading levels.

II. BRIEF REVIEW OF Nothing tops spelling activity for teaching English vocabulary.
RELATED LITERATURE Reciting words and interpreting its meanings are two
AND STUDIES techniques. When it comes to learning vocabulary, teaching
English vocabulary comes second to reading classical
literature (Nation, 2018). Listening and speaking aid in the
retention of the language read aloud in class. Since the late
1800s, the direct procedure has been flouring. The direct
technique requires listening to each word and then reviewing
the student's spelling.
