B. Analysis
 How did you know what verb to use in each sentence?
 What are the tenses of each verb?
VERB CONSISTENCY – refers to keeping the same tense of a verb throughout a
clause. It means that:
*If you start using your sentence using a verb in the present tense, then keep
using the verbs in the present tense all throughout your sentence or paragraph.

Present Tense – refers to a time period during which something happens.


Example: “At this moment, Mary walks into the room. Everyone stares at her. But
Samantha stands up and drops her notebooks. She feels jealous.”

All the verbs in this paragraph are in the present tense.

*If you start using your sentence using a verb in the past tense, then keep using
the verbs in the past tense all throughout your sentence or paragraph.

Past Tense – refers to a time period during which something happened and is over.
C. Abstraction
Example: “When Mary walked into the room, everyone stared at her. But
Samantha stood up and dropped her notebooks. She felt jealous.”

All the verbs in this paragraph are in the past tense.

*If you start using your sentence using a verb in the Future tense, then keep using
the verbs in the Future tense all throughout your sentence or paragraph.

Future Tense – refers to a time period during which something will happen.

Example: Samantha will feel jealous every time Mary will walk into the room
because everyone will stare at her. Then Samantha will stand up and will drop her
notebook.

All the verbs in this paragraph are in the future tense.

D. Application Direction: Choose the correct tense of the verb to complete the paragraph. Write
the answer only.

I (called, will call) the Telephone Company tomorrow. And I (complained, will
complain) about the static sound on our telephone. For sure, the person to whom
I (will talk, talked) to over the phone (scheduled, will schedule) an appointment for
a technician to come. He will (fix, fixed) our telephone line.

IV. EVALUATION
A tiny baby bird (sat, sits) on the ground, close to the nest. The bird (cries out,
cried out) nervously for its mother. Several people (pass, passed) by and (stared,
stares) at it, but no one (touches, touched) the poor tiny baby bird.
