Air Conditioning-General

The air- conditioning system provides a continuous renewal of air and keeps a
constant selected temperature in the independently controlled zones:

- Flight deck
- FWD cabin
CKPT FWD MID AFT
- MID cabin
- AFT cabin
- FWD compt
- BULK compt

FWD CARGO AFT CARGO BULK CARGO

The system also supplies air to the lavatories and galleys

Flt Deck / Cabin Air Condition


Cool Conditioned Air

Hot bleed air enters the pack via a pack
flow control valve. The purpose of this

Ambient air from the cabin are regulated temperature before entering the cargo
compartments (except AFT cargo) via inlet isolation valves and extracted to overboard
by extract fan via outlet isolation valves.

The system provide ventilation, heating , cooling depend on compartment as following:


FWD cargo: Ventilation + Heating + Cooling
AFT cargo : Ventilation
BULK cargo : Ventilation + Heating

Pack Flow Control Valve

It regulates flow in accordance with signals received from


the pack controller

The valve closes automatically in case of:


- Pack overheating, or
- Engine starting, or
- Operation of fire p/b, or
PACK - Operation of ditching p/b, or
CONTROLLER - Any unclosed door at engine start,
- Insufficient upstream pressure.(that
means if no electrical supply the valve still
open as long as air supply is available)

Air Conditioning Packs


The flow of ambient air passes through the
heat exchangers to cool the hot bleed air.
This flow enters via a pack air inlet flap and
exits via a pack air outlet flap ( the amount
of air passing controlled by pack controller)

Note : To avoid ingestion of foreign objects, the


inlet and outlet flaps close temporarily during
takeoff and landing.

They provide hot air to trim air system for optimized temp regulation.

They regulate the pressure of hot air tapped upstream of the packs.

The valve automatically closes if its related duct overheat occurs.

Hot bleed air can be added via trim air valve to achieve the demanded
temperature for a zone.

These valves are controlled by zone controller.

Each pack controllers regulates the air flow and temperature of its related pack in accordance with a
demand signal from the zone controller.

It modulates its temperature control valve and the ram air inlet and outlet flaps.

A Zone controller monitors the temperature of the four zones and sends signals to the pack controllers
to set the air temperature delivered by the packs.

Zone controller controls the trim air valve to added hot bleed air for demanded temperature in each zone.

Engine Start

allow all of the APU bleed air to be used to start
the engines.

Before Takeoff

On Air panel, Consider selecting packs OFF or APU bleed ON

Note
Use TOGA thrust : APU bleed On or PACKS OFF will improve performance.
Use FLEX takeoff: APU bleed On or PACKS OFF will reduce takeoff EGT and
thus reduce maintenance costs.

• Select PACK1 ON, after CLB thrust reduction
• Select PACK2 ON, after FLAP retraction

Note: Selecting both packs ON simultaneously may effect passenger comfort.
