THE BEATRICE

PROJECT
A documentary
Idea generation
The first few days of idea generation were very difficult for me. I really struggled with coming up with
ideas, I don’t know if its to do with the pressure of this being our last project or if its just simply that I
couldn’t think of ideas. Eventually I had come up with some ideas but they weren’t the best and I wasn't
happy with continuing one as my final idea. I decided that I needed to chat to more people and try and
develop ideas that way. After chatting to my mum she mentioned about helping a charity out in march
that deal with the issue of girls in Zimbabwe that cant attend education due to their periods. That charity
provides sanitary products to girls in need and have seen remarkable impact over certain parts of
Zimbabwe. The charity was after someone to help films some clips for their website and I thought I could
create my own documentary along side helping the charity out. After chatting with one of the main charity
workers and talking about logistics, I then decided that I would do this as my final idea.
My final idea
■ My final idea is to create a documentary looking at how certain Uk based charities are
helping and providing to Zimbabwe to help battle the issue of poverty. a big part of this
will be to do with a charity that my family works with called The Beatrice Project, where
they help donate sanitary products to girls in Zimbabwe that cant be at education due to
their periods. during March i have been given the opportunity to fly to Zimbabwe to help
the charity with some stuff however this also allows me to record and create part of this
documentary. The main reason for this documentary is to help raise awareness for this
issue and give people a perspective that they might not necessarily have had.
Issues

As fun as this project will be there are so many possible issues that I could face for example,
■ Problems with flights and transport
■ Problems with equipment and and getting equipment to Zimbabwe
■ Not being able to reshoot after I return
■ Audio issues
■ Organization issues
■ Visas
■ Permissions
■ Language barriers
■ Gender
■ Climate
What I will challenge myself on.

■ The main things that I think are going to challenge me are the planning side of
things most of the written work I also think the pressure of not being able to reshoot
and traveling so far for this project and being in a completely different environment
will definitely challenge me.
Why should I produce this production

■ The main reason I think I am producing this production is to help raise awareness
about current issues happening in Zimbabwe at the moment such as girls not being
able to attend education due to their periods or even a broader perspective even
looking at poverty and how it is affecting certain areas of Zimbabwe, I also think that
there aren’t many productions similar to this idea and it will stand out.

■ Any questions ?
