ACTIVITY TITLE: Landslides and Sinkholes

Learning Targets:
 Discuss the different geological hazards.
 Describe the causes of geological hazards.
 Recognize signs of impending geological hazards.
 Apply mitigation strategies to prevent loss of lives and properties.

Direction: Read the articles about the landslide and sinkhole that happened in the Philippines and make a brief
report about it by completing the table below.

ACTIVITY TITLE:  Geological Hazard Maps Interpretation

Learning Target:
 Interpret geological hazard maps.
Disaster Readiness and Risk Reduction – LAS5_Week7
Directions:
1. Choose a place to examine and assess - it may be the place where you live, where your relatives live, or
any place in the Philippines that you want to assess.
2. Then, access, download, and use the multiple hazard maps available in
https://stories.thinkingmachin.es/risk-map/ & http://www.namria.gov.ph/download.php and interpret the
risk of your chosen place to landslide and its hazards by following the procedures discussed in the previous
pages.
3. Afterwards, use the HazardHunterPH (https://hazardhunter.georisk.gov.ph/) to access the interactive map
and the file of the assessment report for your chosen place.
4. Take screenshots of the hazard maps you obtained from these websites and answer the guide questions to
interpret your hazard maps.

Use the format and the rubric shown after the guide questions in accomplishing this activity.
SCREENSHOTS OF GEOLOGICAL HAZARD MAPS: (10 points)

In the interpretation of your hazard map, answer the following guide questions:
Guide Questions: (10 points)
Disaster Readiness and Risk Reduction – LAS5_Week7
 What are the details provided by the hazard maps regarding the risk of your chosen place to hazards
brought by rain-induced landslides? (What is the risk value based from the maps/legends of the maps? Is
your place near from slopes that can cause landslides? What is the level of susceptibility of your chosen
place?)
 Based from your interpretation of the hazard maps, how high/low is your chosen place’s risk to hazards
brought by rain-induced landslides? Justify your answer.
