TASK 1: KNOW ME MORE!
- Teacher will show some sentences to the students.
-Teacher will let the learners identify the gerund within the sentences being
showed.
1. Robert must not go climbing alone.
2. George likes photographing nature.
3. Swimming is my favourite sport.
4. We started working on this yesterday.
5. His big fear is driving on the main roads.

TASK 2: READ WITH ME!
-Teacher will appoint a learner to read sentences being shown.
1. My favorite sport, running, takes a great deal of effort.
2. What did you do on seeing your results?
3. Keith, the most hardworking student, is highest academic honoree.
4. They accomplished a lot, by working together.
5. My favorite activity, splashing in the pool, makes me feel refreshed.

b. Analysis
1. What have you noticed about our activity?
2. Are there any similarities from the activities we had earlier?

c. Abstraction
FUNCTIONS of GERUND:
 Object of the Preposition - describes or identifies the preposition.
- it is after the prepositions.
Examples:
1. Maria keeps herself in good shape by dancing.
2. Let us concentrate on building bridges in support for peace.

 Appositive - it is the placing of one substantive beside another to


add to explain the first.
Examples:
1. My only exercise, walking, makes me healthier.
2. My passion, helping others, gives me satisfaction.

d. Application
TASK 3: LET THEM KNOW!
 Let the learners identify the functions of gerund in each of the
sentences.
Direction: Identify the functions of Gerund in each sentence. Write (OP) if the
function of gerund in the sentence is Object of the Preposition, and write (A), if it is
Appositive.
1. I cooled myself off, by splashing in the pool. (OP)
2. My talent, singing, gives me sense of relaxation. (A)
3. I was able to see over the wall by standing on my toes. (OP)
4. The teacher looked at the student without blinking. (OP)
5. My favorite pass-time, jogging, is enjoyable. (A)
IV. EVALUATION
TASK 4: LET’S CREATE!
DIRECTION: Change the following words into gerunds then use them to construct
sentences following the two (2) functions accordingly.
SAMPLE: (Object of the Preposition) study - studying
Sentence: She earned the highest honor by studying very well.
