Types of Tests
7. Intelligence Tests
8. Personality Tests
• Aptitude tests are often used to predict success in an occupation, training course, or
educational endeavor, such as SAT.
2. Achievement Tests
• Measure a person’s degree of learning, success, or accomplishment in a subject or task.
• One instrument may serve both purposes, acting as an aptitude test to forecast future
performance and an achievement test to (University Entrance Exam) monitor past learning.
3. Creativity Tests
• Assess novel, original thinking and the capacity to find unusual or unexpected solutions,
especially for vaguely defined problems.
• Educators were especially impressed that creativity tests required divergent thinking—
putting forth a variety of answers to a complex or fuzzy problem—as opposed to convergent
thinking—finding the single correct solution to a well-defined problem.
4. Interest Inventories
• Measure an individual’s preference for certain activities or topics and thereby help
determine occupational choice.
• Interest tests are based on the explicit assumption that interest patterns determine and,
therefore, also predict job satisfaction.
• For example, if the examinee has the same interests as successful and satisfied accountants,
it is thought likely that he or she would enjoy the work of an accountant.
5. Behavioral Methods
• Direct observation of behavior (Davranışın doğrudan gözlemlenmesi)
• Self-monitoring (Kendi kendini izleme)
• Reactivity: behavior changes during monitoring (Reaktivite: izleme sırasında davranış değişiklikleri)
• Interviews
• Self-report inventories
• Other procedures
• Thought listing
Behavioral Procedure
• Behavioral and cognitive assessments are made using the SORC system: (Davranışsal ve bilişsel
değerlendirmeler SORC sistemi kullanılarak yapılır:)
• S (Stimuli): refers to the environmental situations that precede the problem (S (Uyaranlar):
Problemden önce gelen çevresel durumları ifade eder)
• C (Consequent Variables): are there events that are punishing or reinforcing for the client?
6. Neuropsychological Tests
• Measure cognitive, sensory, perceptual, and motor performance to determine the extent,
locus, and behavioral consequences of brain damage.
7. Intelligence Tests
• Measure an individual’s ability in relatively global areas such as verbal comprehension,
perceptual organization, or reasoning and thereby help determine potential for scholastic
work or certain occupations.
• The term intelligence test refers to a test that yields an overall summary score based on
results from a heterogeneous sample of items. (Zeka testi terimi, heterojen bir öğe örneğinden elde edilen
sonuçlara dayanarak genel bir özet puanı veren bir testi ifade eder.)
Intelligence Tests
• Intelligence (IQ) tests can be used to (Zeka (IQ) testleri için kullanılabilir)
• provide a standardized assessment of a person’s current
mental abilities (Bir kişinin mevcut zihinsel yeteneklerinin standartlaştırılmış bir değerlendirmesini sağlamak.)
• diagnose learning disabilities (Öğrenme güçlüğü teşhisi)
• determine whether a person is mentally disabled ( Bir kişinin zihinsel engelli olup olmadığını belirlemek
)
• identify intellectually gifted children (Entelektüel olarak yetenekli çocukları tanımlamak)
• IQ tests typically have good reliability and criterion validity (IQ testleri tipik olarak iyi güvenilirlik ve
kriter geçerliliğine sahiptir)
Alfred Binet
Alfred Binet and his colleague Théodore Simon practiced a more modern form of
intelligence testing by developing questions that would predict children’s future progress in
the Paris school system.
Lewis Terman
In the US, Lewis Terman adapted Binet’s test for American school children and named the
test the Stanford- Binet Test.
Raymond B. Cattell
• 1905-1998.
• Came up with the Cattell-Horn theory of fluid and crystallized intelligence. (Cattell-Horn'un
akışkan ve kristalize zeka teorisi ile geldi.)
Crystallized Intelligence
• Factual knowledge about the world (Dünya hakkında olgusal bilgi)
• The skills already learned and practiced (Daha önce öğrenilmiş ve uygulanmış beceriler)
• Examples
• Arithmetic facts (Aritmetik gerçekler)
• Knowledge of the meaning of words (Kelimelerin anlamları hakkında bilgi)
• State capitals (Eyalet başkentleri)
• = completely dependent on culture and formal training or learning. (tamamen kültüre ve örgün
eğitim veya öğrenmeye bağımlı)
Wechsler developed the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS) and later the Wechsler
Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC), an intelligence test for school-aged children.
Flynn Effect
In the past 60 years, intelligence scores have risen steadily by an average of 27 points. This
phenomenon is known as the Flynn effect. (Son 60 yılda, istihbarat puanları ortalama 27 puan artarak
istikrarlı bir şekilde artmıştır. Bu fenomen Flynn etkisi olarak bilinir.)
Emotional Intelligence
• Emotional intelligence is the ability to perceive, understand, and use emotions (Salovey and
others, 2005). (Duygusal zeka, duyguları algılama, anlama ve kullanma yeteneğidir (Salovey ve diğerleri, 2005).)
• The test of emotional intelligence measures overall emotional intelligence and its four
components. (Duygusal zeka testi, genel duygusal zekayı ve dört bileşenini ölçer.)
8. Personality Tests
• Measure the traits, qualities, or behaviors that determine a person’s individuality; such tests
include checklists, inventories, and projective techniques such as sentence completions and
inkblots.
• Projective tests provide ambiguous stimuli that are interpreted by the test subject according
to unconscious needs/impulses (Projektif testler, test konusu tarafından bilinçdışı ihtiyaçlara / dürtülere göre
yorumlanan belirsiz uyaranlar sağlar.)
• Rorschach Inkblot Test: person is asked to explain each of 10 ink blots (half of the blots are
in color while half are black and white) (Rorschach Inkblot Testi: Kişiden 10 mürekkep lekesinin her birini
açıklaması istenir (lekelerin yarısı renkli, yarısı siyah beyazdır))
• Thematic Apperception Test: person is shown a series of pictures and asked to explain the
story behind each (Tematik Apperception Testi: Kişiye bir dizi resim gösterilir ve her birinin arkasındaki hikayeyi
açıklaması istenir.)
Uses of Testing
• Classification (Sınıflandırma)
• Diagnosis and treatment planning (Tanı ve tedavi planlaması)
• Self-knowledge (Kendini tanıma)
• Program evaluation (Program değerlendirmesi)
• Research
• These applications frequently overlap and, on occasion, are difficult to distinguish one from
another.
• Diagnosis should be more than mere classification, more than the assignment of a label.
• Categories do not capture the uniqueness of a person. (Kategoriler bir kişinin benzersizliğini
yakalamaz.)
• The disorder does not define the person. (Bozukluk kişiyi tanımlamaz.)
• She is an individual with schizophrenia, not a” schizophrenic” (Şizofreni hastası bir bireydir,
"şizofrenik" değildir.)
Psychological Assessment
Psychological Assessment
• Psychological assessment is a process that involves the integration of information from
multiple sources, such as (Psikolojik değerlendirme, aşağıdakiler gibi birden fazla kaynaktan gelen bilgilerin
entegrasyonunu içeren bir süreçtir:)
• psychological tests,
• personal history,
• description of current symptoms and problems by either self or others, and collateral
information.
rapport: uyum
3. Take responsibility for the selection, administration, and scoring, the analysis,
interpretation, and communication of test results. (Seçim, yönetim ve puanlama, analiz için sorumluluk
almak, test sonuçlarının yorumlanması ve iletilmesi.)
4. Be familiar with the context of use: the situation, purpose, setting in which a test is used.
(Kullanım bağlamına aşina olun: bir testin kullanıldığı durum, amaç, ayar.)
5. Have knowledge of legal and ethical issues related to test use ( Test kullanımı ile ilgili yasal ve etik
konularda bilgi sahibi olur.)
6 .Awareness of ethnic or cultural variables that could influence the results: (Sonuçları
etkileyebilecek etnik veya kültürel değişkenlerin farkındalığı:)
7. Have the ability to determine language proficiency (Dil yeterliliğini belirleme becerisine sahip olmak)
8. Have knowledge of important racial, ethnic, or cultural variables relevant for individuals
or groups to whom tests are administered. (Testlerin uygulandığı bireyler veya gruplarla ilgili önemli ırksal,
etnik veya kültürel değişkenler hakkında bilgi sahibi olur.)
again v.s. bad performance history causes anxiety (yine v.s. kötü performans geçmişi kaygıya neden olur)
• Motivation to Deceive (Aldatma Motivasyonu)
Does the client have motivation to perform deceitfully on the
tests?
Is the overall pattern of test results suspicious in light of other information known about the
client? (Test sonuçlarının genel kalıbı, müşteri hakkında bilinen diğer bilgiler ışığında şüpheli mi?)
• The American Psychological Association (APA) has taken a leading role in the
development of professional standards for testing. (Amerikan Psikoloji Derneği (APA), test için profesyonel
standartların geliştirilmesinde öncü bir rol üstlenmiştir.)
American Psychological Association Ethical Guidelines: (Amerikan Psikoloji Derneği Etik Kuralları:)
-The investigator has the responsibility to make a careful evaluation of its ethical
acceptability. (Araştırmacı, etik kabul edilebilirliğinin dikkatli bir değerlendirmesini yapma sorumluluğuna sahiptir.)
- The investigator is obliged to observe stringent safeguards to protect the rights of human
participants. (Araştırmacı, insan katılımcıların haklarını korumak için sıkı önlemlere uymakla yükümlüdür.)
- The researcher must evaluate whether participants are considered “Subject at risk” or
“Subject at minimal risk” (Araştırmacı, insan katılımcıların haklarını korumak için sıkı önlemlere uymakla
yükümlüdür.)
- No appreciable risk (physical risk, mental harm). (Kayda değer bir risk yok (fiziksel risk, zihinsel zarar)
-The principal researcher is responsible for the ethical practices of collaborators, assistants,
employees, etc. (all of whom are also responsible for their own ethical behavior). (Baş
araştırmacı, işbirlikçilerin, asistanların, çalışanların vb. etik uygulamalarından sorumludur (hepsi de kendi etik
davranışlarından sorumludur).)
-Except in minimal-risk research, the investigator establishes a clear and fair agreement with
participants that clarifies the obligations and responsibilities of each.
-Must explain all aspects of the research that may influence the subjects decision to
participate. Explains all other aspects that the participants inquire about. (Deneklerin katılma
kararını etkileyebilecek araştırmanın tüm yönlerini açıklamalıdır. Katılımcıların sorduğu diğer tüm yönleri açıklar.)
-In research involving concealment or deception, the research considers the special
responsibilities involved. (Gizleme veya aldatma içeren araştırmalarda, araştırma ilgili özel sorumlulukları göz
önünde bulundurur.)
Researcher is responsible for protecting participants from physical and mental discomfort,
harm, and danger that may arise from research procedures. If there are risks, the participants
must be aware of this fact. (Araştırmacı, katılımcıları araştırma prosedürlerinden kaynaklanabilecek fiziksel ve
zihinsel rahatsızlık, zarar ve tehlikelerden korumaktan sorumludur. Riskler varsa, katılımcıların bu gerçeğin farkında
olmaları gerekir.)
-After the data are collected the investigator provides participants with information about the
nature of the study and attempts to remove any misconceptions that may have arisen. (Veriler
toplandıktan sonra araştırmacı, katılımcılara çalışmanın doğası hakkında bilgi verir ve ortaya çıkmış olabilecek yanlış
anlamaları gidermeye çalışır.)
-The investigator has the responsibility to detect and remove any undesirable consequences
to the participant that may occur due to the research. (Araştırmacı, araştırma nedeniyle ortaya çıkabilecek
katılımcıya istenmeyen sonuçları tespit etme ve ortadan kaldırma sorumluluğuna sahiptir.)
-The information obtained from the participant should be treated confidentially unless
otherwise agreed upon with the participant. (Katılımcıdan elde edilen bilgiler, katılımcı ile aksi
kararlaştırılmadıkça gizli tutulmalıdır.)
•Participants must be fully informed about the procedures used in the research study.
(atılımcılar, araştırma çalışmasında kullanılan prosedürler hakkında tam olarak bilgilendirilmelidir.)
•After getting this information, the participants must provide consent for their participation.
•Participants must be informed about their right to Confidentiality and their right to
withdrawal without penalty. (Katılımcılar Gizlilik hakları ve ceza almadan cayma hakları hakkında
bilgilendirilmelidir.)
DEBRIEFING (BİLGİLENDİRME)
Post-administration debriefing should: (Yönetim sonrası bilgilendirme:)
-Restate purpose of the research. (Araştırmanın amacını yeniden belirtin.)
-Explain how the results will be used (usually. emphasize that the interest is in the group
findings). (Sonuçların nasıl kullanılacağını açıklayın (genellikle. ilginin grup bulgularında olduğunu vurgulayın).)
-Reiterate that findings will be treated confidentially. (Bulguların gizli tutulacağını yineleyin.)
-Answer all of the respondents questions fully. (-Yanıtlayanların tüm sorularını tam olarak cevaplayın.)
-Thank the participant!
