Lesson idea implementation:

The activity I will plan for my students using this tool will be for them to understand the
Months of the Year. I will introduce it by displaying the eBook that was created and go
through each page for them to listen, understand, and eventually read. I will encourage the
students to be able to create their own eBook by first creating storyboards on paper and
displaying their own creativity, knowledge, and aspects of each month based on the eBook
that was originally presented. This will help the students be ready to create their own eBook
while also being aware of their goals and meeting the ISTE Students Standard that is currently
being focused on. Students will be able to utilize the technology that will be given to them by
creating their own eBook in Microsoft PowerPoint and being able to achieve the technology
standards that are set forth. The teacher will be overviewing the students’ work and ensuring
they are on track and able to explicitly state what they believe each month of the year is to
them. Feedback will be given by praising the students on their accomplishments of creating
an eBook and allowing them to share the book as well as their experiences with their
families. I will conclude the lesson by having each student present their eBook and letting
them take their eBooks home to display to their parents.

Managing engagement: Describe a way to use this technology in a way that gets students
actively involved in authentic tasks and contexts?

I will encourage students to Co-Engage and use the computer together with a partner and create the
eBook together. I will also set time limits so that the students continue to stay on task throughout the
lesson. Once the eBooks are finished, I will encourage the students to share eBooks with their
classmates. As they share their eBooks they will be able to express themselves and become active
learners as they share their unique traditions, cultures, and heritages with their classmates.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

The Months of the Year Lesson plan and the PowerPoint software support and enhance the
learning experience for students in the classroom by focusing on the three guidelines of
Universal Design for Learning (UDL). Representation is provided for all students as the eBook
has audio, visuals, and text so that students may be able to receive the information through
their choice of learning. The lesson encourages engagement as well as allows students to
create presentations using their originality and designs. Finally, it allows students to express
themselves using the multiple resources PowerPoint has to offer.

Reflecting on enhanced learning:

I feel the activity I created will impact my students’ learning as it will allow them to be
engaged and active. It will be fun to allow students to apply some of what they have learned and
experienced about the months to our school year to be able to remember the months by what they
have learned.
