REALIZATION, INSIGHT AND LEARNINGS
How do the values exemplified by the stories affect our actions as Filipino citizens?
Student’s Answer:
From the stories that I read, I think that values affect us both positively and negatively.
Our beliefs, tradition, and practices vary depending on our values. Due to this, we can
also say that it affects how we act and behave. It also influences the way we think, how
we should do things, and weigh what is right or wrong. The stories have shown that a
value with good intentions can also lead to adverse action. I think that the values within
us are always there, and it is up to us whether we will practice it properly to have a better
performance as Filipino citizens.

One value that was shown in the stories was being religious. I think that the narratives
showed how believing in God makes us act humbler. Knowing that this life is not entirely
ours makes us give more respect to it. It also implies that our life is given to us with a
purpose, and it was not given to us coincidentally. This means that each one of us has a
responsibility, a role to play in this society. To add up, I think that being religious also
gives people hope. It influences our mindset to believe that we can always do something
and always have someone who supports us. Another value exemplified as being family-
oriented showed that even good intentions can lead to a bad result if it is done wrong.
Due to our tight relationship in Filipino families, we always want to give them the love they
deserve; We always try to provide them with their desires to show them our love even if
we are not that well off. However, giving more time to work to give their material desires
leads to a lesser time of bonding, communication, and connection. Being family-oriented
makes us have a goal to make our family happy. And sometimes we are too focused on
achieving our goal that we sometimes forget why we are doing it. Other values were
mentioned, like promoting the common good and being an environmentalist that affects
our actions as Filipinos.

In conclusion, I think that the values we have to make us realize things. It makes us think
of what we should or should not do. The values we have show us that each of us has to
act accordingly and that everyone has a role to play in this community. Most values
influence us to act in a way that will benefit both ourselves, our family, and the whole
community. It gives us the motivation to do good and be good.
