Tinagurian ding “Golden Years of the Philippines” ang

2. Why do we have to fear and make judgements about our fellow citizens just because their appearance is a lot different
from us?

The poem demonstrates that Black people continue to face racial and color discrimination. The larger questions about
society that this reading raise for me are (1) Why can’t other people just accept that humans are not all the same, that
we are distinctive from one another?, and (2) How could other people treat their fellow citizens differently and even
discriminate against them simple because their appearance isn’t similar as them.

3. Based on a formalist approach we think the poem means there is a complex connection between Black people and
White people that demonstrates the historically adversarial nature of race relations because the author uses metaphors
and allusion to reflect on the injustices Black people have endured because of the actions and beliefs of white people.

What I Can Do

1. Monna wants Federigo’s falcon because it is her son’s dying request to her. The son told to his mother that if she can
bring him the beautiful falcon, it would make him feel better.

Federigo's falcon is something Monna desires because her dying son asked her for it. The son said that he would feel
better if his mother could bring him the lovely falcon.

2. After Monna’s son died, Monna’s brothers want her to remarry since she was very rich and was still young. But she did
not wish to marry someone again, unless it is Federigo whom she is going to take to be her husband. And so, her
brothers accepted her wish and gave her in marriage to him.

Monna's brothers want her to remarry because she was young and extremely wealthy after the death of her son. She did
not, however, want to get married again unless Federigo was the man she desired to wed. Her brothers granted her wish
and wed her to him as a result.

3. If it is referring to Federigo doing things and spending all his money to get Monna’s attention, no, I wouldn’t do that
same thing because women don’t get interested in someone’s richness. But if it is referring to when Federigo killed his
beautiful falcon, the only precious thing that is left to him, to have food to serve to the woman he loves, I would do the
same thing because it shows that he can sacrifice everything even the only fortune that is left to him to the woman he
loves deeply.

No, I wouldn't do the same thing Federigo did to attract Monna's attention if it's referring to him acting and spending all
of his money on it, as women aren't attracted to wealth. But if it refers to the incident in which Federigo killed his lovely
falcon—the only priceless possession he still possesses—so that he could provide food for the woman he loves, I would
act in a similar manner because it demonstrates his willingness to give anything—including his last remaining source of
wealth—to the person he adores.

4. If I were Monna, of course I would marry Federigo. He is a persistent young man who would do everything for the lady
he loves. He didn’t do anything bad to Monna when she didn’t acknowledge his love for her. I would love marry a man
who persistently loves me and who has a great generosity towards me.

Naturally, if I were Monna, I would wed Federigo. He is a determined young man who is willing to give up absolutely
everything to win the love of his life. When Monna rejected his love for her, he didn't harm her in any way. A man who is
devoted to me and generous with me is the kind of man I would most like to marry.

What I Have Learned

Lesson 1

1. Moral theory explains why a certain action is wrong - or why we ought to act in certain ways.

2. Human action is right when it conforms with the norm, rule or law of morality.

3. Morality may also be specifically synonymous with "goodness" or "rightness".

4. Moralist approach is a type of literary critique that judges the value of the literature based on its moral lessons or
ethical teachings.

5. After studying this module, I realized that moralistic literary approach exists. It focuses everyone on a moralistic
definition of relationship, life, and family processes that presumes a moral ascendancy of one value system over others.
It is a theory of how we determine right and wrong conduct. It also provides the framework upon which we think and
discuss in a reasoned way, and so evaluate, specific moral issues.

Lesson 2

1. Marxism theory is a social, political, and economic theory originated by Karl Marx, which focuses on the struggle
between capitalists and the working class.

2. Marxists believe that if the working class makes itself the ruling class, and destroys the basis for class society (private
property, or what Marx called "Bourgeois Property"), there will be a "classless society."

3. Critics examine the relationship of a literary product to the actual economic and social reality of its time and place
(Class stratification, class relations, and dominant ideology).

4. Marxist criticism views literary works as reflections of the social institutions.

5. After studying this module, I have learned that Marxist literary criticism goal is to assess the political 'tendency' of a
literary work, determine whether its social content or its literary form are 'progressive', and analyze the class constructs
demonstrated in the literature.
