DEVELOPING THE INTEREST IN PERFORMING SCIENCE ACTIVITIES
THROUGH VIDEO BASED INSTRUCTION AMONG GRADE 4 PUPILS OF
TALABA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

I. Situation
Covid-19 Pandemic has brought a lot of changes to the life of all learners
and to the teachers as well. From the old normal (Face to Face instruction) to a
very new way of learning. Transitioning to the “New Normal” of learning is
not as easy as it looks. Although the New Normal of education seems to give
more time to spend with family, but the teacher-researcher believes that to
achieve quality education, there should be an educator/teacher that is equipped
with the knowledge on how to transform teaching to learning.
In Science subjects, performing the activity is important so that learners
can explore the natural physical world and discover how science works but
Modular Distance Learning being implemented in our school made teaching -
learning in science impossible to achieve.

II. Intervention
The Teacher-researcher made a video presentation, highlighting Science
activities being perform by a learner. The researcher made sure to follow
health protocols while filming the activity performed by a learner. This video
presentation was sent to a platform that all learners can access such as,
messenger. For learners that don’t have good internet connection, flash disk
was required to have access to the video. Those learners with smartphones but
don’t have internet connection were required get a copy of the video via share
it or Bluetooth during module distribution with parents.

III. Summary
Since learners in the 21st Century are so engaged by technology/ ICT
devices, learners actually completed their modular task in science and are very
eager to performed the activities in the module.
Parent says, learners are excited to use the Smartphones and are always
keen to log on to the platform used to access the video and start their work.
Learners are also able to revisit complicated concepts through reviewing the
video presentation. They know where and how to find their specific video and
are able to start their work immediately, rather than wait for the parents to give
them instructions or clarifications about their task.
The teacher-researcher was able to plan and deliver comprehensive lessons
that are exempt from the inevitable interruptions experienced during activities.
Video-based Instruction proves to be effective when integrated with Modular
Distance Learning in Science.
The teacher researcher was able to develop the interest of Grade 4 learners
in performing Science activities through Video-Based Instruction.
