Type of Incident:
Location of Incident:
Affected Persons:
At around 10 o’clock in the morning of September 7, 2022, students from Room A20
of Building A noticed a foul odor permeating the classroom. Other classrooms from Building
A also picked up the stench. A chemical spray on plants is thought to be the source of the
scent. The affected area was the Southeast side of the school campus, particularly Building
A.
The incident affected six learners from Grade 11 HUMSS 2, who were initially
evaluated in the school clinic. Some of them were having breathing problems, due to the
stench triggering their asthma. The learners were rushed to the hospital for treatment and
further analysis on the advice of the School Nurse and the School Head.
Four faculty members assisted the learners in the hospital. The class adviser also
contacted their parents/guardians to inform them. Following the doctor's evaluation, the
teachers were informed that the learners were safe. The doctor said that while the smell was
not particularly hazardous, it could nevertheless cause health issues like asthma.
Grade 11 HUMSS 2, the section who were heavily affected by the incident were
instructed to vacate their room for the time being.
The affected learners were brought to the school clinic and assessed. Upon
assessment, some learners manifested difficulty of breathing, loss of consciousness,
dizziness and vomiting. They were immediately brought to the hospital for further
assessment and intervention.
The guardians of the learners were contacted by the class adviser, Ms. Mutya Cruz,
and were told to meet the students in the hospital.
