ABSTRACTION No. 04
THE UNITED NATIONS AND CONTEMPORARY
GLOBAL GOVERNANCE

Name: Jason B. Sia Date: 03/28/2022

ABSTRACTION requires STUDENTS to make a summary of KEY

CONCEPTS of what was learned from lesson 4. What major learnings did you get
from lectures/readings in Lesson 4? Kindly state in your own words thru a short
sentence (At least FIVE (5) SENTENCES ONLY) on what you learned from the
lesson.
I learned that:

1. The purpose of global governance, broadly defined, is to deliver worldwide

public goods, notably peace and security, justice and dispute resolution
mechanisms, and harmonized trade and industrial norms.
2. The United Nations is ideally positioned to give intellectual leadership in
ensuring that the benefits of economic globalization are shared evenly by the
world's people and that negative consequences are minimized.
3. An international organization can bring security, trade opportunities, greater
connection chances, and, ultimately, a stronger voice in the international arena.
4. After the Cold War's end, the UN has faced "new challenges" such as poverty,
terrorism, contagious illnesses, and the development of weapons of mass
destruction, in addition to those posed by interstate wars.
5. The UN is the closest to a world government, but it is important to remember
that International institutions like the UN are always in a precarious position.
