to Fairview

They were hoping to cap
Homecoming week with a
win Saturday afternoon. But
the Glasgow Scotties fell to
newcomers to District 2B
Fairview.
A couple of years ago then
Glasgow volleyball coach Somer
Hoerster wanted to see Fairview
get into the conference as the
Warriors would give Glasgow
some good competition. At that
time the Scotties were defeating
everyone in the conference.
Fairview and Plentywood
provided the Scotties good
competition.
The Scotties did have
competitive matches with
Fairview and Plentywood.
Fairview swept the Scotties this
past Saturday afternoon, 25-15,
25-22 and 25-20.
Fairview joined the 2B
this year after spending years in
Class C. The Warriors were in
Class B before dropping to C.
Second-year Glasgow
coach Brooke Martin, who was
an athlete at Saco, felt that the
Scotties played hard against a
tough Fairview squad.
“They played so hard.
That’s the one thing that I
focused on this week, they
always play hard all the time
and never give up,” Martin
said. “They would get behind
10 points, then they are within
three. It wasn’t clean volleyball
like they’ve been playing.
Fairview hits extremely hard. It
was similar to Glendive. It was

difference. And, we didn’t pass cleanly enough and we
had some little things where balls dropped between two
people. It wasn’t our cleanest volleyball by any means,
but the girls gave 120 percent and you couldn’t ask for
anything else from them.”
There are always one or two players that stand out
in a match. This week Coach Martin felt Joely Chappell
stood out, all 5-foot-5 of her.
“JoJo Chappell really does. That kid, she’s got a
motor and she never stops,” said Martin. “She’s always
pumping her teammates up or walking around trying
to keep everybody up. She’s a hard, hard worker. She’s
aggressive no matter what’s going on in a game. So, JoJo
really stands out and does everything she can to keep us
up.”
Hayden Green, a 6-foot junior, is getting good
experience playing against teams like Gleidve and
Fairview with the height that both teams bring to the
net.
“It’s good for them and the hitters to work on
their block timing. It’s good for our back row girls too,
because they’re digging the ball from somebody that’s
5-10, rather than 5-8,” Martin said. “And it’s good for
them to have to read the hitters. It’s a good challenge for
everybody.”
Senior Tatem Nyquist led the Scotties in kills with 11
of the 21. Green had 7 of 9 blocks and 3 of 5 aces. Gina
Page had 18 of 65 digs and Macy Martin 11 of 12 assists.
Emily Johnson led the Warrior with 10 of 23 kills and 4
of 6 blocks. Macy Tjelde and Kambre Kloker had 7 each
of 30 digs, Tjelde also had 4 of 11 aces, and Kloker 11
of 23 assists.
Glasgow is on the road this weekend, taking on Sidney
tonight and Harlem Saturday night.
“Sidney is the first team that we saw that are very big
and strong,” said Martin. “They are definitely the best
serving team that we have seen. It took the girls one set
to get used to their jump serve that they do. The girls
played with them. I’m very optimistic this week because
we worked a lot on the serve/receive this week. The girls
are confident about their serve/receive abilities. We’ve
seen a lot of good serving teams the last two weeks.”
The Scotties would like to get another sweep over
Harlem, which has improved.
“Every team in our district can beat any other team on
any given night. We have to focus and get a win.”
Wolf Point leads the 2B with a 5-0, 5-2 record, Fairview
follows at 6-1, 10-2, Glasgow is 4-2, 5-4, Mal;ta 2-4, 2-7,
Harlem 1-5, 1-5 and Poplar 0-6, 2-6.

Many times, bears are attracted to dumpsters,
campground areas, and homes due to the garbage and
other available food.
Although bear encounters are rare in most of FWP
Region 6, black bears are occasionally seen in the Little
Rockies and the Bears Paw Mountains.
Another bear story...
There are plenty of outdoor adventures from this
neck of the woods that go to Zortman to enjoy the back
trails offered. Just ask Dan Ellefson! And BS Central’s
Rachel Boese just did some house & dog sitting for some
folks that went to Zortman this past weekend.
And we heard a report of a grizzly bear in the
Mosby area recently. You cross the Musselshell River
right after going through Mosby and entering Mosby Teacher: Why are you late for school?
which is about 20-30 miles straight south of Fort Peck Student: Because of a sign down the road.

It was years ago back in thegood ol’ Good Evening
Glasgow days when Ward Grewe and I did a spoof,
complete with photo, on black bears running through
a garden in Jordan. And I took an ass chewing from a
Bozeman Chronicle writer for it. He picked up a GEG
somewhere in his travels and ran the story, only to find
out Ward and I were up to our occasional pranks (and we
had some dandies). But bears are definitely expanding
their territory. Jordan is 53 miles east of Mosby.
So in your travels west, be bear aware! Who knows,
perhaps there will be a true report of bears in Jordan one
day... And we’ll let the Bozeman Commical know.
What the Glasgow School District bond would do
What will the proposed $8.58 Million Dollar Facility
Improvements Bond include?
**Day 40 Tidbit**
What role has the Scottie Booster Club played in
the bond promotion and Scottie Field Recharged
project?
The Glasgow School District is fortunate to work
with one of the very best Booster Club’s in the State of
Montana. The group has very active leadership and
an outstanding board of directors in place. They are
financially sound in their decision-making and equally
supportive of ALL activities, including athletics, cheer,
pep band, music, and speech & drama. From the
beginning, the Scottie Booster Club has financially
supported the work of the Scottie Field Recharged
Committee; which was originally a 16-person volunteer
group formed in the summer of 2022.
The Booster Club paid $14,000 to A&E Design for
the initial design work for a “recharged” Track and Field.
They also faithfully covered the $7,000 cost related
to the Geotechnical Survey of Scottie Field. Scottie
Booster Club has continuously paid for ads in the media
over the last 14 months; including Facebook, BS Buzz,
and the Glasgow Courier. They also covered the FULL
cost of expenses related to the bond promotional mailer
that residents received a few weeks ago. All total, the
Scottie Booster Club has already committed north of
$25,000 towards this school bond project out of their
“Capital Improvements” account.
Letter to the Buzz
They generously, and without question, provided
this support to help complete the necessary preliminary
work to obtain the costs related to the renovation
project. The Glasgow School District has not used any
District money in support of this project. At no time was
the Scottie Booster Club asked to collect donations on
behalf of the project nor did they volunteer to do so.

What about the interest costs!
We were told that if you have a $200,000 home your
taxes would be $5-$10 per week. In November your
taxes would go up $250-$500.
If we look at the businesses in our school district,
their taxes will go up. Will they have to pass it on to us?
How much will Gasoline go? What about rent? What
about food? And the list goes on.
What about the Farmers and Ranchers that we get
to go hunting and fishing on their land. A small farmer
told me his taxes would go up $2500-$3000 per year.
The Bond is over $8,000,000. Is the Interest figured
In? Or added on ? If it is added on. The prime rate is 8.5%.
using 8% X $8,000,000 = amortized 8,059,649.33.
A lot of veterans died so we have the RIGHT to
