A. Introduction Introduce the lesson to the learners with the following objective:

At the end of this lesson you are expected to describe healthy


school and community environment.

The Learner will answer the Pre Test.

What is community and community health?

A community is a group of people who share an environment. It


involves many people and families living in a common place. The
status of health of a group of people could be called as
community health.

Community health includes the conditions and actions which are done
to promote, protect, and preserve health.
The school and the community are the mainsprings of effective and
powerful forces that can create wholesome climate for mutual
gains and betterment.

Some are the characteristics of a healthy community


According to the World Health Organization include:

1. A clean and safe physical environment.


2. An environment that meets everyone’s basic needs.
3. An environment that promotes social harmony and actively
involves everyone.
4. An understanding of local and environmental issue.
5. A community that participates in identifying local solutions to
local problems.
6. A community whose members have access to health services
and facilities.

Physical Environment

The physical environment of a healthful school and community


should be safe with good quality of air and water. The pupils should be
provided with an environment where they are free from harm and injuries
that could be avoided. They should be in a place where they are safe from
illness that are caused by a dirty environment.
