Discussing
new FARM TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT
concepts and
practicing Farming tools and equipment are critical to the
new skills success of a farmer. Farmers working in the farm
cannot do all the farm work with their bare
hands. They require farm tools which will make
their work easier. Hence, as a learner you should
be able to know, identify, and learn their uses.

Classification of Farm Tools and Equipment:

1. HAND TOOLS- are the simplest tools since

they are used with your bare hands in
performing farm operation and practices
in a small farm or vegetable garden in the
backyard or in school.
Here are some
examples :

BOLO- use for

cutting tall weeds
and grasses ; for chopping branches of
trees.

CROWBAR-also
called a wrecking
bar, it is mainly
used for digging
holes.

PICK-MATTOCK-
this is a common
gardening and
landscaping
instrument. It is a handy tool that is used
for digging and breaking.

SPADE- is used for

removing soil or trash. It
can also be used for
digging.

RAKE- a farming
tool used for
levelling, clearing
fields and
gathering weeds
and hay.

Trowel- is a small
hand tool used
for digging, applying, smoothing, or
moving small amounts of soil in a pot.

2. FARM IMPLEMENTS- these are the

accessories which are pulled by working
animals or mounted machineries and
which are usually used in the preparation
of land. These are usually made of a
special kind of metal.
Here are some
examples :

HARROW- it is
used for tilling and pulverizing the soil.

PLOUGH- a farm
implement used furrows
and inter row cultivation.

ROTAVATOR- an
implement mounted to a
tractor used for tilling
and pulverizing the soil.

3. FARM MACHINERIES- all machines and

tools are used in the production,
harvesting and care of the farm products.
Here are some examples of farm tools and
equipment :

HAND TRACTOR - used to

pull a plough and harrow
in preparing a large area
of land.

THRESHER- a machine
used for separating grain-
crops into grain, seed and
straw.
