2.6 Introduction

The excitation system includes several communication channels, used for both,
operation and maintenance, and for remote control (DCS). A Local Control Panel
(ControLCP) is also connected this way for local operation.

This document describes the use of ControLCP interface : the principles of operator
dialogue and the description of the main tools to perform operation and maintenance of
the system :

This document is dedicated to the staff in charge of the operation of the ControLCP of
the ALSPA Control System.

2.7 Connection with a DCS system (SERIAL MODBUS PROTOCOL)

The ALSPA CONTROGEN AVR system communicates with external equipment

through a serial link using a protocol compatible with the MODBUS standard as defined
by Gould-Modicom (MODBUS Reference Guide PI-MBUS-300 rev. B – Jan. 1985).
This serial link allows communication with a supervisory system in slave mode or
connection to an external controller.
This serial link, which is connected to the CPU board of the ALSPA CONTROGEN
AVR through a RS232/RS485 converter , is designed to use the RS485 standard link.

The data accessible by Modbus is listed in a table appended to this document.(

Modbus list)
Characteristics of the serial link
The serial link characteristic is RS485 type.
In case of redundant regulator, each regulator has its own address as per project
configuration.

For further information on the serial link configuration refer to Modbus List
document appended to this document.
Principle
The ALSPA CONTROGEN AVR regulator uses the same Modbus interface in both,
single-regulator and redundant-regulator, types of structure.
Modbus link orders validation

10/98
The Modbus link orders are validated through a life variable located at address 400805.
The DCS shall write a variable value at this address to allow the Modbus link
commands. Every cycle, less than 1 second, the DCS shall write a different value
(range 0 to 32767) at this address.
For redundant regulators, in case of Modbus link connection loss an automatic change
over from active channel will be done to allow Ethernet commands on the other
regulator.

Modbus link orders for redundant AVR:

Only the active channel takes into account the Modbus link orders.
The active channel can be determined through address 402413:11 (Channel 1 active)
or address 402413:12 (Channel 2 active).
These information are available on both channels.

Allows to rescale the curves of the

boolean variables. This helps to
increase the legibility of the graph as it
separates the trace area for each curve.
On selection, the different boolean
variables are rescaled such that the
height of each curve is 5 % and the gap
between two curves is 5%.
The curve of first variable starts at 0%
Rescale and goes up to 5 %. The curve of
Boolean
Not selected
second variable starts at 10% and goes
up to 15 % etc.
If there are more than 10 boolean
variables, modulo 10 is applied.
The curve of eleventh variable starts at
0% and goes to 5%.
On de-selection, the curves of all the
boolean variables take 0-100% of the
trace zone.

• The tooltip on the vertical ruler lists the information of all the curves
intersecting the ruler.
Understanding the Abscissa and Ordinate
The abscissa (time axis) helps to find the time of occurrence of any value of the
variables.
The features of the abscissa are given below:
• The abscissa is graded in days, hours, and minutes.
• The date and time displayed in the left and right hand corners of the abscissa
indicates the beginning and ending date / time of the currently visible graph in the
trace zone respectively.
• The duration of the currently visible graph is displayed between the beginning
and ending date / time.
• The abscissa and the beginning and ending date / time of the currently visible
graph are updated on:
• each leftward shift of the curves in the real-time mode
• zoom operations on the curves in both real-time and Historian mode
• During the summer and wintertime change, abscissa gets revised as below:
• Wintertime to summertime change: One hour is lost during this time change.
Abscissa displays as follows:
01:00 03:00
• Summertime to wintertime change: One hour is added during this time change.
Abscissa displays as follows:
01:00 02:00 02:00 03:00
The ordinate (value axis) helps to find the value of the variables at any time.
The ordinate is graded in percentage.
Understanding Scroll Bars
A scroll bar helps to change the visible portion of the graph in the trace zone.
Scrolling can be done in either of the following two ways:
• sliding the scroll bar
• clicking on the associated arrows in the scroll bars
In Historian mode, the scroll bar is available only on zoom
operations.
Understanding Scales
Scales helps to know where the value of the variable lies in its range. This facilitates
the instantaneous analysis of the behavior of the variables.
Scales are displayed either for all the variables or for a single variable.

• Global scale tab: allows to view the global scale for the variables
• Real scale tab: allows to view the real scale for the selected variable.
The global scale shows the values of the minimum and maximum limits for all the
variables in the viewer.
The features of the global scale are given below:
• The global scale can be modified for analog and setpoint variables. The
command and the boolean variables always have the values 0 and 1 as their
maximum and minimum limits.
• An indicator placed between the maximum and the minimum limits of the global
scale shows the type of unit of all the variables in the viewer:
• "ï"Physical: The global scale shows the actual values of the maximum and
minimum limits of the variables.
• "%" Percentage: The global scale shows 0 in the minimum limits of all the
variables and 100 in the maximum limits of all the variables.
• Rough: The global scale shows the actual values of the maximum and minimum
limits of the variables.
• The global scale limits of the variables can be modified through the Modify y-scale
item of the contextual menu of the variables in the variables list window.
The real scale of a variable shows the ordinate with the physical unit specific to the
selected variable.

 Time Management

The time setting is automatic when the ALSPA CONTROGEN AVR is linked to a
E8000 field bus. In that case, time setting function is not accessible within the Local
Control Panel as time is setup by the controllers.

In case of standalone structure, this function is available. It will setup the controller
time.

To perform time changing, click on button.
