• Oligopoly: a market structure in which only a few sellers offer similar or

identical products. – một cấu trúc thị trường mà trong đó có một số ít
người bán, bán các sản phẩm tương tự hoặc gần tương tự như nhau.
(Interdependent)
• Game theory – nghiên cứu con người sẽ hành xử như thế nào trong các tình
huống chiến lược.

• Must consider how others might respond to the action he

1. Markets with Only a Few Sellers – thị trường chỉ có vài người bán
• A SMALL GROUP OF SELLERS, OLIGOPOLISTS
– Tension between cooperation and self-interest
-> mâu thuẫn giữa hợp tac và lợi ích cá nhân
– Best off cooperating, acting like a monopolist -> sẽ có lợi nhất khi hợp
tác và hoạt động như 1 doanh nghiệp độc quyền.
• Produce a small quantity of output
• Charge P >MC
– Each firm cares only about its own profit -> mỗi cty chỉ quan tâm lợi
nhuận của họ
• Powerful incentives not to cooperate -> có những động cơ lớn
có thể cản trở việc hợp tác.
• DUOPOLY – THỊ TRƯỜNG NHỊ QUYỀN
Là dạng thị trường đơn giản nhất, chỉ có 2 thành viên nhưng các vấn đề xảy
ra cũng tương tự như các thị trường nhóm nhiều thành viên.
– Oligopoly with only two members

– Price is determined on the market by the demand
 HAI LOẠI THỊ TRƯỜNG:
• For a perfectly
competitive firm
– Price = marginal cost
– Quantity is efficient
• For a monopoly
– Price > marginal cost
– Quantity is lower than the
efficient quantity

A duopoly can:
– Collude and form a cartel, act as a monopoly and agree on:
• Total level of production
• Quantity produced by each member
Trước thị trường như vậy, hai công ty sẽ cấu kết (collude) với nhau và tạo thành 1
thể Cartel, tại sự cấu kết này sẽ thống nhất mức sản lượng Q, giá bán P và mức
sản lượng của mỗi thành viên.
– Don’t collude, act in self-interest
• Difficult to agree; Antitrust laws
• Higher quantity; lower price; lower profit
• Not competitive allocation
• Nash equilibrium
