SCIENCE CLUBBING MONTH

Proposed Activities

THEME: REINVENTING THE FUTURE: ADVANCING COMMUNITIES

THROUGH SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, AND INNOVATIONS.

I. Rationale
Nowadays, our world is facing pressing challenges such as climate change, healthcare
disparities, and resource scarcity which require scientific and technological solutions. Hence, we
need to nurture students’ abilities to devise innovative approaches that can address these
challenges and improve the quality of life in communities. Moreover, the Republic Act No. 9155
(Governance of Basic Education Act of 2001) outlines the structure of the basic education system
in the Philippines, including the roles and responsibilities of the DepEd and also includes the
legal framework for planning and implementing educational activities such as National Science
Club Month activities to promote scientific literacy and awareness of our young learners.
Also, in pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 28, designates September as the
National Science Club Month in the Philippines. Throughout the National Science Club Month
educational institutions are encouraged to conduct activities such as science fairs, seminars,
workshops, and competitions that highlight the importance of science and technology in modern
society.
In accordance with the Republic Act 11480, an act amending Section 3 of RA No. 7797,
otherwise known as “An Act to Lengthen the School Calendar from Two Hundred (200) days to
not more than Two Hundred Twenty (220) Class Days, the School Year 2023-2024 shall formally
open on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, and end on Friday, June 14, 2024. It shall consist of 203
school days or as may be determined by further issuances in case of changes in the school
calendar due to unforeseen circumstances.
Therefore, the Science Department of Jose P. Laurel Sr. High School will conduct
Performance Tasks activities to amend the call of Science Clubbing Month in line with MELCs
since extracurricular activities are no longer required. Teachers and students will be engaged in
the round month activity which consists of varied activities per grade level that will serve as a
platform to engage, inspire, and empower students to be active contributors to the advancement
of their communities and society. Through a diverse range of activities, discussions, and projects,
participants will gain insights into the role they can play in shaping a brighter and more
innovative future for themselves and their communities.
II. Objectives
This National Science Clubbing Month Celebration aims to:
1. Promote scientific literacy of the students of Jose P Laurel Sr High School by doing
varied activities that are aligned to the Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELCs)
of their lesson in the First Quarter.
2. Provide a platform for students and teachers to showcase their application of scientific
knowledge through scientific projects, research, and innovations to peers, other
educators, and the community.
3. Cultivate a culture of continuous learning by inspiring students to stay curious and
engaged with scientific developments throughout their lives which is one of the
foundations of a 22nd century learner.
