A Detailed Lesson Plan in

Mathematics VI

Topic:
Visualizing Solid Figures
Detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematics VI
I. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson the student should be able to:
 Visualize and describe the different solid figures namely cube prism, pyramid,
cylinder, cone and sphere using various concrete and pictorial models;
 Differentiate solid figures from plane figures; and
 Identify the faces of a solid figure.

II. Subject Matter:

A. Topic: Visualizing Solid Figures.
B. References: Mathematics – Grade 6 Alternative Delivery Mode Quarter 3 –
Modul 1: Visualizing Solid Figures First Edition, 2021.
C. Materials: Visual Aids, Real Object and Pictures.

III. Procedure:

Teacher Activity Student Activity

A. Preliminary Activities
 Prayer:
Let us stand and pray In the name of Father and the Son and
before we start our new the Holy Spirit Amen!
lesson

 Greetings: Good morning, ma’am Alexandra

Good morning, Grade VI Good morning, Teachers
Good morning, Teachers Thank you, ma’am,
You may take your sit

 Checking of Attendance: Yes ma’am

Class monitor, kindly give
me the list of absentees
today. We have 2 Absent today ma’am

Thankyou!

Checking Assignments: None ma’am

Do we have assignments?

 Classroom Management:
Kindly take your sit
properly so we can start
our new lesson today!

B. Developmental Activities
 Motivation:
I have here a big box. Inside of this
box has different shape, All you have to
do is to pick one shape in this box and
tell to everyone what kind of shape you
pick.

Is that clear grade VI?

Yes ma’am
So, who wants to pick first in my big
(The student will volunteer)
box? Anyone?

 Discussion
Can you guess what is our
lesson for today?
Visualizing solid figures ma’am
Very good!

So, class our lesson for today is

Visualizing Solid Figures that Plane
Figures are two – dimensional
shapes and they look flat. They can be
made of straight lines, curved lines, or
both.
While the Solid Figures are three –
dimensional objects, meaning they
have length, width and height. Because
they have three dimensions, they have
depth and take up space in our
universe. Solid figure is identified
according to the features that are
unique to each type of solid. Specially,
you can observe the numbers of faces,
edges, and vertices, as well as the
shape of the base.

A solid figure that has all flat surfaces is

a polyhedron.
Each surface of polyhedron is a face.
Two faces of a polyhedron meet to form
an edge.
The edges meet to form a vertex.

Cube A prism with a 6 8 12

its faces are

Triangular Compose of two 5 6 9

Square A polyhedron 5 5 8
based whose base is a
pyramid polygon and the
lateral faces are
triangles.
Cylinder Has two circular 2 0 0

congruent and
parallel.
Cone Has one circular 1 0 0
base.

Sphere Is a curved 0 0 0
surface of points
that are all of the
same distance
from the center.
 Learning Activity:
A while ago I present to you the box that
have many solid figures inside, now
what is the shape of this box?

“The students will volunteer”

“Very Good”
Do the front and back side have a same “Yes, ma’am”
shape?

How about the top and the bottom? “Same ma’am”

So how many faces does the box have? “6 ma’am”

How about vertices? “8 ma’am”

And lastly how about the edges? “12 po ma’am”

Thus, the box is a three-dimensional

object? “Yes ma’am

Why yes? “Because it has length, width and

height”
Very Good!

C. Generalization.
Can you give me some examples of
solid figures along with vertices, edges
and face? “The student will volunteer”

D. Valuing.
Why do we need to know the vertices,
edges, and face or why we need to
study the solid figures
“The student will volunteer”
E. Application.
Observe the following solid figures and
identify the shape and how many faces,
vertices and edges have and write the
answer on the sheet of paper.

1.

2.
1. Cylinder (2 faces, no vertices and
edges)
2. Rectangular prism (6 faces, 8
vertices and 12 edges)
3. 3. Cube (6 faces, 8 vertices and 12
edges)
4. Triangular prism (5 faces, 6
vertices and 9 edges
4. 5. Sphere (no faces, edges and
vertices)

5.

IV. Evaluation.
What is your insight in knowing the vertices, edges and faces of solid figures?

V. Assignment
Tomorrow, bring folder, colored paper ruler, scissors, glue or tape because you
will create a solid figure using those materials.
