WHAT IS CHIP CHIP LOOKING FOR?

For your reference, below are some tips and techniques to help you conduct a successful demo lesson:
 Good preparation: Download lesson material and prepare it well before class time.
 TPR (Total Physical Response): Use TPR to convey lesson content and prompts for
reciprocation. For example: cupping an ear to prompt student to speak (Watch below for more
suggested TPR)
 Use of props: Use different types of props (such as puppets, letters, and white board) that help
teach the material and enhance the class.
 Repetition: Make student repeat new words without incidental language needed. Make sure you
keep your speech direct and straight to the point. Any extra words are unnecessary when teaching
beginner level students.
 Corrections: Correct your student’s mistakes gently and positively, have them repeat the
corrections.
 Speak slowly: Remember that English is not your student’s first language. Make sure you speak
slowly enough so that your student can understand and follow your instructions.
 Extension: provide extra words, ask extra questions, get the student involved, and add songs and
games that go with the topic of the lesson.
 Reward system: Don’t forget to give your student stars/ rewards during the lesson.
 Smile – keep an enthusiastic smile on your face during the entirety of your class.
 Classroom environment: Make sure your class background is clear and non-distracting with
educational elements.
 Technical requirements: Laptop or computer with webcam/ headset/ strong and stable
connection are required.
