 Define and differentiate between asexual and sexual reproduction in plants and
animals;
 Create a diagram illustrating plant and animal reproductive systems; and
 Appreciate the importance of reproduction in providing for the continued existence of

will divide the class into 4 groups.

Plant reproduction often involves both sexual and

asexual methods. Sexual reproduction includes
the formation of seeds through fertilization, while
asexual reproduction involves processes like
cloning or producing offspring without a seed.
On the other hand, animal reproduction also
includes sexual and asexual methods. Sexual
reproduction typically involves the fusion of male
and female gametes, resulting in offspring with
genetic variation. Asexual reproduction in animals
may occur through processes like budding or
fragmentation, where a new individual develops

from a part of the parent organism

There are 4 common methods of asexual

reproduction.
1. Binary fission- the parent organism splits

into two identical individuals.
2. Budding- new individual develops as an
outgrowth or bud on the parent organism.
3. Fragmentation- parent organism breaks
into fragments, and each develops into a
new individual.
4. Parthenogenesis- development of an
organism from an unfertilized egg.
On the other hand, sexual reproduction also has

key features. And this includes:
1. Gametogenesis- formation of haploid

gametes.
2. Fertilization- fusion of a sperm cell with
an egg cell, resulting in a diploid zygote.
3. Genetic Variation- offspring inherit a
unique combination of genetic material
from both parents, promoting diversity
within the population.
4. Mating- the process of bringing together
individuals of the opposite sex to facilitate
the exchange of gametes.
