IV. Procedure
A. Establishing a Purpose for I have here some pictures, I want you to identify the shapes of the given
the lesson pictures.

Can we divide this things into 2?

B. Presenting/Instances of the Motivation:

new lesson
Do you have siblings?
How many siblings do you have?
Do you share the things that you have to your siblings?

I have here a picture.

This is Karen and Carlo. Karen has a loaf of banana cake.
She wants to share one-half of it to her brother Carlo. How should Karen
divide the cake?

Comprehension Question:

1. What are the names of the children?

2. What does Karen have?
3. What does she want to do with the loaf of banana cake?
4. What part of the cake does she wants to give to Carlo?
5. If Karen would give one-half of the cake to Carlo, who would get a
bigger part, Karen or Carlo?

Today you are going to learn on how to identify and visualize ½ of a

whole.

But before we start our lesson, I want you to remember this STAR as we
go through our lesson and discussion:
1. Sit properly.
2. Talk one at a time.
3. Actively participate in class discussions and activities.
4. Respect one’s opinion/ideas.

Are you ready?

C. Discussing New Concepts Let us go back to the story that I have read a while ago.
and Practicing new Skills.
Karen has a loaf of banana cake.
She wants to share one-half of it to her brother Carlo. How should Karen
divide the cake?

What is the problem in the story?

We are going to help Karen on how she will divide the cake.

Let us define first what is a whole and one-half.

Whole- is an object that is complete in itself.

One half -When an object as a whole is divided into two equal parts,
each equal part of a whole is called one-half and it is written in this
symbol ½.

Take a look of this picture.

What is in the picture?

Do we have this here in our place?
This is the banana cake that Karen has.
How do you think did Karen divide the cake?

Let us help Karen divide the cake.

What part of the cake does she wants to give to Carlo?

Ok since, she wants to give one-half of it to Carlo, we are going to divide

the cake into two equal parts. Let us pretend that this sheet of paper is the
cake, I will divide the paper into two equal part.

We can divide this paper by folding the paper horizontally, vertically and
diagonally showing two equal parts.

Let us take a look on the paper that we fold, does the two parts have
equal size?
How do we call each equal part?
Who get the bigger part of the cake, Karen or Carlo?
Is it important to share the things or blessings that we have? Why?

Can you now identify ½ of a whole object?

Let see if you can now identify ½ of a whole object

Which of the picture shows ½?

1.

A B C

2.

A B C

3.

A B C
D. Developing Mastery A. Divide the given objects to show half(1/2).

1.

2.

3.

4.

5.

E. Making Generalization and Time to wrap up what you have learned in this lesson.
Abstraction about the Lesson
What is one-half?
How are we going to divide a whole into halves?
How do we write one half in symbol?

F. Finding Practical Application:

Application
A. Identify the letter that shows ½ of the given picture.
B. Draw a line that will divide the given shape into halves.

1.

2.

3.

G. Evaluating Learning Directions: Identify the pictures that shows half. Write the letter of the
correct answer.
4.

5.

V. Additional Activity Draw 4 shapes on your notebook. Using a line divide each shape to equal
parts to show ½.
