PLANNING INFORMATION
1. REASON
The Fuel Pump Assy was installed on the drop test specimen of a MBB-BK117 D-3 in
the frame of the common cargo hook beam (CCHB) certification.
After the drop test, leakage was detected on the four installed fuel pump cartridges.
Consequently, this SB describes the introduction of an improved fuel pump cartridge.

SB MBB-BK117-28-22-0001
AFFECTS: Fuel Pump Assys listed above used in Airbus Helicopters applications, all serial numbers.
1. Summary
The Fuel Pump Assy, P/N D240845 consists of Cartridge (P/N 130100) and Canister (P/N D240845-1). The Fuel Pump
Assy was installed on the drop test specimen of BK117 D-3 in the frame of the common cargo hook certification. After
the drop test leakage was detected on the four installed Fuel Pump cartridges. The root cause was determined. The
design of the Fuel Pump cartridge will be modified to eliminate the leakage path.
In the re-design of Cartridge P/N 130100 to P/N 444001000 the leakage path was eliminated.
This SB is used to incorporate this new design into the existing Fuel Pumps already installed in helicopters.
2. Planning Information
A. Effectivity
This SB affects all serial numbers of P/N listed in Table 1: Effectivity, used in Airbus Helicopters applications.
B. Concurrent Requirements
No concurrent requirements applicable.
C. Reason
This SB introduces a new Cartridge to improve leak tightness in case of hard impact on pumps or their
structure.
D. Description
This SB provides guidance for the upgrade of P/N listed in Table 1: Effectivity by replacement of the Cartridge
and the type plates of Fuel Pump and Canister.
E. Compliance
OPTIONAL
TEST-FUCHS recommends that the modification described given in this SB can be done during the next
removal of the Fuel Pump from the aircraft.
G. Manpower
No additional time is required for units at overhaul.
Approximately 1 hour is required for the modification and to prepare and attach the type plate on Fuel Pump
Canister – excluding the removal and replacement of the Fuel Pump from the Aircraft.

(2) Preparation
The modification of the Fuel Pump shall be performed in a clean, dry area, free of dirt, moisture and other
contamination. The Pump must be kept clean to ensure the operating effectiveness of the units.
(3) Disassembly
Disassemble the Fuel Pump Assy P/N D240845 in accordance with the steps below.
(1) Unplug the power supply, leading from the HC to the Cartridge.
(3) Close the Inlet Valve by unscrewing the Thread Plug (55) using the Thread Plug Wrench (Table 5).
CAUTION: EXCESSIVE FORCES CAN DAMAGE THE THREAD PLUG AND/OR THE HOUSING!
(5) Engage the Support Ring of Cartridge Puller (Table 5) on the Pump Housing and the puller-claws on the
notches of the Cartridge (2).
(6) Drive the knob of the Cartridge Puller until the O-Rings of the Cartridge (2) are released.
(7) Disengage the Puller and lift the Cartridge P/N 130100 out of the Canister (1). Drain any residual
fuel/calibration fluid.
(8) Put the old Cartridge P/N 130100 into an appropriate liquid-proof tray for intermediate storage – it
has to be returned to TEST-FUCHS.
WARNING: WEAR A FACE SHIELD OR GOGGLES TO PREVENT CONTACT WITH EYES AND
GLOVES TO AVOID PROLONGED OR REPEATED CONTACT WITH SKIN WHEN
WORKING WITH SOLVENT (Table 3). AVOID PROLONGED OR REPEATED
BREATHING OF VAPOR. USE ONLY IN A WELL VENTILATED AREA.
(2) Clean metal parts with a fabric, immersed in solvent (Table 3). Remove heavy concentrations of dirt or
other deposits by scrubbing with a non-metallic brush. Dry with clean, dry, compressed air having a
nozzle pressure not greater than 7 bar (100 psi). Avoid handling highly finished parts with bare hands to
prevent corrosion.
(3) Store the cleaned parts in plastic bags or similar containers until reassembly.
NOTE: Do not pool parts of similar units.
(5) Check
Visual Inspection of Canister
(1) Inspect surfaces for distortion or warpage. Check the O-ring seal seat for scratches.
(2) Inspect the thread inserts for damage. Inspect Junctions for cracks.
CAUTION: DO NOT REUSE SELF LOCKING HEXAGONAL NUTS OR O-RINGS UNDER ANY
CONDITION.
(1) Lubricate the inner surface of the Canister and the O-Rings (100) with Lubricant (Table 3).
(3) Press in the Cartridge firmly to the stop. Check correct alignment of the Cartridge.
(5) Measuring of Bonding Resistance between Cartridge and Canister (refer to Figure 1)
Lock-wire
(8) Reconnect the power supply (-, and +), leading from the HC to the Fuel Pump Cartridge (Figure 2).
(1) Engrave the missing data onto the new type plate for the Fuel Pump (60), using an engraving pen or
stylus.

(4) Clean up and degrease the areas (using a solvent), where the new type plates have to be fixed.
(5) Apply a thin film of LOCTITE 454 on the backside of the new type plates and press them onto the
area shown in Figure 5 – the data on the old type plates should be covered as much as possible.
