Plan B
Aim of Micro-Project: MAKING MODEL OF BEAM ENGINE.
Course Outcome: STUDING ABOUT BEAM ENGINE MODEL
A beam engine is a type of steam engine that was widely used during the 18th and 19th
centuries. It was first developed by Scottish engineer James Watt in the late 1700s, and it
played a significant role in the Industrial Revolution.
The beam engine is a reciprocating engine that uses steam to power a piston, which is
connected to a beam. The beam then transmits the power to a rotating shaft or wheel. The
engine consists of a boiler, a cylinder, a piston, a beam, a connecting rod, and a crankshaft.
The operation of the beam engine begins with steam being admitted into the cylinder, where
it pushes the piston up. The piston is connected to one end of the beam, while the other end of
the beam is attached to a connecting rod. The connecting rod then turns a crankshaft, which
converts the reciprocating motion of the piston into rotary motion. The rotary motion can then
be used to power machinery, such as a water pump or a textile loom.
Beam engines were widely used in various industries, including mining, transportation, and
manufacturing. They were gradually replaced by more efficient steam engines and later by
internal combustion engines. However, a few working examples of beam engines can still be
seen in operation today in museums and industrial heritage sites.
