Introduction

Natural dyes are extracted from natural substances such as animals, plants, or

minerals. These dyes are non-toxic, biodegradable, and free from health hazards.

Nowadays, the textile dying business employs an excessive artificial dyes to get the

desired hue of worldwide textile usage as a result of lower costs, a greater selection of

vivid colours, and noticeably better fastness attributes than natural dyes (El-Nagar et al.

2005; Iqbal et al. 2008).

Since its invention, silk has earned the title "queen of fibers." discovery. Clothing

made with silk is opulent and have many wonderful characteristics, including the

substance outstanding mechanical performance, luster, and low weight a smooth and

delicate texture, great moisture transmission, with superb drape quality

Yellow Trumpet Tree (Tecoma stans) is a broadleaf evergreen shrub or small tree

that has clusters of bright yellow trumpet-shaped flowers, native to tropical and

subtropical regions of South Asia to the Americas. It is grown as an ornamental plant

with attractive clusters of cup-shaped bright yellow faintly scented flowers, evergreen

foliage, and abundance of fruits and seeds (White, 2003). T. stans is a member of the

Bignoniaceae family and its flowers are mostly yellow in color. Dye extracted from

Tecoma stans flower produces different color shades. Tecoma stans is a shrub or small

tree, 5-7.6 m in height. Bark is pale brown to gray and roughens with age. Leaves are

compound and imparipinnate with 2 to 5 pairs of leaflets and a larger single terminal

leaflet. Leaflets are lanceolate, up to 10 cm long, with serrated margins, mid-green

above and soft to the touch. Flowers occur in clusters at the ends of the branches and

are trumpet shaped with 5 rounded lobes, 6 cm long, pale to bright yellow, with faint

orange stripes at the throat.

The aim of the research was to evaluate the performance of dyes extracted from

yellow trumpet trees in fabric dyeing. The specific objectives were to analyze the

aqueous extraction process of the dyes, to explore the possibilities of producing

fashionable hues from the dyes using different mordants, to compare between

unmordanted and mordanted dyed.

Objectives

This study was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of using Yellow Trumpet Tree

(Tecoma stans) as a subject for making a natural fabric dye.

Specifically, it aims to:

● To know the benefits of Yellow Trumpet Tree (Tecoma stans) as natural fabric dye

● To determine the differences of the natural fabric dye and artificial dye

● To identify what mordant to use to make the dye sharper color

● To determine how yellow is the dye using different mordant with different fabrics

Statement of the Problem

This study aimed to determine the potential of Yellow Trumpet Tree extract as natural

dye for fabrics.

Specifically, this study sought to answer the following questions:

● What are the benefits of Yellow Trumpet Tree (Tecoma stans) as natural fabric

dye?

● Are there any differences, in terms of long-lasting colors, in using the natural dye

and the artificial dye?

● What mordant are we going to use to achieve a sharper color?

Introduction

Health care is an essential aspect of human survival. Wound healing is a

complex and dynamic process. Wound dressing contains two layers: First layer is

located adjacent to the wound and comprises a material which should be

bioabsorbable, porous, and compatible for serving as a scaffold for cell attachment and

proliferation. There is a need for cheap and efficacious wound dressings in developing

countries. Banana leaves have been described as an excellent, inexpensive, easily

available dressing material in tropical countries. As a natural product, banana leaves are

heavily contaminated with various pathogens that must be removed before they can be

used as wound dressings, but effective sterilization methods that do not affect the

beneficial wound-dressing properties of banana leaves have not been described.

According to Swapnil Chendake et al. (2021), the Banana leaves can become an

alternative choice of dressing material in hospital and clinical settings where cost and

availability of dressing material are important issues. Banana leaves (Musa paradisiaca)

can become an alternative choice of wound dressing material in contused, lacerated

and sutured wounds over the head, neck and face region as they proved to cause less

pain and trauma during dressing change and have other advantages such as cost and

availability, comfort and ease of handling the dressing by health professionals.

Significance of the study

This study will help people in emergency circumstances. Importantly, banana leaf

dressings are less expensive than collagen or biosynthetic dressings, these results

demonstrate banana leaves as a safe and effective dressing material in patients with

surgical skin wounds. It will promote the use of banana leaves instead of a chemical-

laden substance.

This study intends to contribute significantly to the following:

● Department of Health (DOH). This study can be used for advocacy efforts and

to justify public health spending. This also gathers important information about

behaviors, risk factors, and disease trends.

● Students. They can use the information or studies gathered to improve their

skills in order to have a good concept or idea of their study.

● Future Researchers. This study provides a wealth of information for them

regarding their studies and it is used as a research tool. It provides direction and

a concept for the specific situation encountered in their various research projects

someday.
