Lesson 1 - Imperatives

3. Objectives: At the end of the lesson students will be able to:


- Recognize and use imperatives to give warnings, instructions and directions.

- Grammar:
+ Use imperatives to give warnings, instructions and directions.

+ Imperatives are the same as the base form.

Ex: Eat this. Be careful!

+ Begin negative imperatives with Don’t, Do not or Never:

Ex: Don’t say that! Never touch that plant!

+ Use please with imperatives to make them more polite.


Ex: Please come here. Don’t do that, please.

Act 3: Imperatives
10’ + Use imperatives to give warnings,

+ Imperatives are the same as the
base form.
Ex: Eat this.

- Ss swap their book.

check. Correct their partner’s
exercise if necessary.

Act 5: Write the classroom

exercise.
- T and Ss say aloud the classroom
instructions, and do the actions.
- Have Ss play Simon says. When T
say “Simon says Read the story”, Ss

Ss don’t do anything. Otherwise,
they are out of the game.

Act 6: Look and match. (Exercise

- Ss look and match the directions to
the pictures. T tell Ss that they don’t
have to use all the directions.
- Then T divide class into 2 teams.
- Each team choose a student to be
blindfolded. Other members try to
help their friend go to the goal by
saying aloud the directions.
- The team reaching the goal in a
shorter time is the winner.

- T tell Ss that they are at the station
and they’re going to hunt the
treasure.
- T play the audio twice, Ss work in
pairs, listen to the directions and
mark x on the map for the treasure.
- Then T play the audio again, Ss
tick the correct instruction.
- T check the answers with class.

III. Conclude - Ss review all what they learnt.
