dialogue aloud.

What is the student learning goal for this lesson idea?

The student learning goal for this lesson idea is for students to use Spotify for Podcasters audio to be
able to record themselves speaking in different points of view of characters. This will include students
speaking in different voices for each character of the story.
Selected Instructional Software Tool: Spotify for Podcasters

Description of Software: Spotify for podcasters is a completely free platform that allows for
creators to create and record podcast.

How do you plan to implement this lesson and integrate the technology? Check all that apply:

☐ Teacher-led: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by
the teacher's direction and expectations. Learning activities are assigned to the student and
mostly practice based.

☐ Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic
of learning and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. The teacher
facilitates the learning as the students direct their own learning processes.

☒ Problem-based and/or Publishable: Students are solving problems and completing

projects to demonstrate their learning. Additionally, the projects can be shared outside of
the classroom. (Note: This objective could be reached by displaying the project on the
school’s morning newscast, posting the project to the classroom blog, presenting it to
another class, or publishing it via an outside source.)
Lesson idea implementation:
I will plan for my students to use Spotify for Podcasters to audio record themselves narrating a
story of different points of view using different voices to represent each character when reading.
Students will be aware of their learning goals by going over students learning targets together
before students begin their project. Throughout students work, the teacher will check with each
student reminding them of their learning target and the goal and purpose of the project.
Students will utilize the use of technology by using Spotify for Podcasters to audio record
themselves narrating a story of their choice that involves different characters points of view,
students will use different voices for different characters while narrating the story. The teacher
will conference with students over their chosen book before they begin audio recording. As
students are recording their narrations, the teacher will be walking around and listening to
students’ voices. If the teacher hears that students are speaking in the same voice throughout
the story, she will step in to remind students of the learning target and the use of using different
voices to represent characters. Feedback will be given to the students all throughout the
project. Students will first be given feedback when they choose their story, students will then be
given feedback while the teacher is walking around listening, after students have recorded, they
will then submit their final project and be graded on a rubric. The lesson will be concluded by
students sharing with a partner their audio over the chosen book that students narrated.

Managing student learning:

Yes, this lesson will cause a shift in students’ behavior, they will be moving from passive to active
learners. Students will become active learners by applying their knowledge on points of view of a story
and the different voices representing characters. Students will then record themselves reading a story
that will require them to apply different voices to represent each character. Students will be given time
limits with each step of the project. Students will be given a certain amount of time to select a story
before conferencing with the teacher. A time check list will be displayed on the board for students to
check frequently to see if they are on time with the check list. Students will also be given a time frame on
when their stories should be recorded and submitted.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Reflection: Be sure to mention one specific UDL
principle you are focused on in this lesson – Multiple Means of Engagement, Multiple
Means of Representation, or Multiple Means of Action & Expression.
Multimedia: Audio or Video Lesson Idea

This activity includes the action and expression principle of UDL, students are using their voices
to create an audio recording expressing different characters points of view through different
voices. Students are using Spotify for Podcasters to construct a narration of a story and then
audio record themselves reading the story. Spotify for Podcasters will support all learners by
providing audio as well as subtitles of different language.
Reflection:
After designing this lesson idea, I feel that project I created will grant students the exposure to
new technology that can positively impact their education in the future. Podcasts offer many
educational episodes that can enhance students learning of desired content. The part of the
lesson that I look to the most is being able to see the different approaches that students take
into being the narrator of the books. Hearing the voices that they think each character would
have, will be fun to listen to and hear.
