problems.
WHAT IS MULTIPLICATION AND
DIVISION?

Multiplication Division
- Multiplication is repeated addition. - In division, your taking a number and
- Ex: If your trying to solve 2x7, you can add 7 making it smaller.
two times (7+7) to get your answer which is - In division, there’s the dividend, the
14. divisor, and the quotient.
- In multiplication, there’s the two numbers
that are being multiplied by each other and
the product is the answer to that problem.
WHEN DO WE USE MULTIPLICATION
AND DIVISION?

- We can use multiplication and division in our everyday lives because it is

a basic arithmetic.
HOW TO USE MULTIPLICATION AND
DIVISION

Multiplication Division
- To use multiplication you take the first - To use division you take the first number
number in the problem and times it (x) by in the problem and divide it (÷) by the
the number on the other side of the number on the other side of the division
multiplication sign and you get your sign and you get your answer which is the
answer which is the product. quotient.
- Ex: 3x4=12 - Ex: 10 ÷ 2= 5
- Remember: Multiplication is basically - Think: 10 divided into 2 equal groups, will
repeated addition so if you take 3 and add give you 5.
it 4 times, (3+3+3+3), you will get your
answer of 12.
WHY IS MULTIPLICATION AND
DIVISION IMPORTANT?

- Multiplication and division are apart of the basic arithmetic and we can
use basic arithmetic every day in our lives. It is beneficial to know and
will come up a lot throughout your time at school.
EXAMPLES ON MULTIPLICATION AND
