ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

In the two week long work immersion experience i was able meet countless
of amazing people which is why i am more than pleased to make this segment of
the portfolio to acknowledge them.

First, before anything else i would like to thank our God almighty for giving
me the strength, perseverance and drive i needed to surpass the wonderful work
immersion experience.

For the second week we were assigned in the Central Supply Room. Unlike
the first workplace, there it was more of a face-to-face connecting session with
patients. At first we were very shy, i was holding back the questions I wanted to
ask. But the physical therapists and the interns were by our side every time we
were in front of people. They encouraged us to talk to the patients, that enabled us
to become more confident and to practice pur socializing skills. So i would love to
greatly acknowledge the physical therapy department for letting us learn and
practice such important life skills.

Next is I would like to acknowledge those people who made us feel safe,
sound and comfortable during the first week of the work immersion program
which were from the Laundry Department t They taught us the basic things we
needed to complete our everyday task, and they did that with all smiles. They made
us feel comfortable around the most intimidating looking machines i have ever seen
in my whole existence. At the end of the day i was able to work confidently in that
work place.

Next is i would like to thank St. Camillus for allowing us to work in their
prestigious hospital. It was such an honor to learn from professionals. It was
astonishing to watch them do their jobs with so much passion. That has honestly
inspired me more to pursue my dreams and work in a similar manner, through
aiding people through something i love

And lastly i would like to acknowledge our dear school San Policarpo National
High School for giving us the opportunity to learn in new environments, for allowing
us to explore and to learn more fundamental skills. Thankyou SPNHS for supporting
our future by engraving knowledge in us.

REFLECTION

During my work immersion in the Central Supply Room (CSR) and

Laundry at Saint Camillus Hospital, I gained valuable insights into the healthcare

industry and the important role that these departments play in patient care. In the

CSR, I learned about the different supplies and equipment used in the hospital, and

how they are managed and distributed to different departments. I was able to assist

in the inventory and distribution of supplies, making sure that the right supplies

were delivered to the right departments. I also learned about the importance of

proper sanitation and sterilization of equipment, which is crucial in preventing the

spread of infections. Through this experience, I realized how important it is to have

an efficient and well-organized supply system in a hospital. In the Laundry

department, I learned about the different types of laundry and how they are

processed in a hospital setting. I was able to observe how dirty laundry is collected,

sorted, and washed, and how clean laundry is distributed to the different

departments. I also learned about the importance of proper handling and disposal

of contaminated laundry, which is critical in preventing the spread of infections.

This experience gave me a greater appreciation for the hard work and attention to

detail required to maintain a clean and safe environment in a hospital. Overall, my

work immersion experience in the CSR and Laundry departments was a valuable

learning opportunity. It allowed me to gain practical skills and knowledge in the

healthcare industry, and it gave me a better understanding of the important role

that these departments play in patient care. I am grateful for the experience and the

opportunity to learn from the dedicated professionals I worked with.

NARRATIVE REPORT

During my work immersion at Saint Camillus Hospital, I was assigned to work at

two different departments - Central Supply Room (CSR) and Laundry. The experience was

both challenging and rewarding, as I was able to learn a lot of new things and develop my

skills in various areas. At the Central Supply Room, I was responsible for receiving and

distributing medical supplies and equipment to different wards and departments of the

hospital. I learned how to properly handle and store different types of medical supplies, as

well as how to use various equipment such as autoclaves and sterilizers. I also assisted in

inventory management and helped to ensure that all necessary supplies were always

available. In the Laundry department, my main task was to sort, wash, and fold hospital

linens and uniforms. I learned how to operate commercial laundry machines and how to

properly handle different types of fabrics and stains. I also assisted in maintaining the

cleanliness and organization of the laundry area. Throughout my work immersion, I was

able to observe and experience firsthand the importance of teamwork and communication

in a hospital setting. I worked closely with other staff members and learned how to

effectively communicate with them to ensure that tasks were completed efficiently and

effectively. I also gained a deeper understanding and appreciation for the hard work and

dedication of healthcare workers. I witnessed the long hours and physically demanding

work that they do on a daily basis, and how important their role is in providing quality

healthcare to patients. Overall, my work immersion experience at Saint Camillus Hospital

was a valuable and enriching one. I learned a lot of new skills, developed my teamwork and

communication abilities, and gained a greater appreciation for the healthcare profession.

HISTORY

The Camillian presence in the Diocese of Calbayog. Western Samar, has a humble
beginning and it all started from a good bottle of Italian wine.

St. Camillus Hospital was established after Fr. Luigi Gaivani (an Italian Camillian
missionary), and Bishop Maximiano Cruz (the bishop then of the Diocese), met sometime
in 1991 during the occasion of the second Pienary Council of the Philippines in Manila. At
the moment, Bishop Cruz asked Fr. Luigi for a “genuine Italian wine” to offer to the
Papal Nuncio, who was scheduled to visit the Diocese. The first meeting of the Bishop and
Fr. Luigi, the classic bottle of Italian wine gave way to an idea. The Bishop then offered
the Camillian to put up a charity foundation with common vision of providing better
healthcare services to the people of Western Samar.

From the time on the seed of the friendship between the Diocese of Calbayog, the
generosity of Ms. Manuelita Rosales (who donated the lot in Barangay Trinidad), Msgr.
Basilio Rosales (her brother) and with the Camillians started to sprout and grow with the
noble purpose of ameliorating the health condition of Samar. Thus, the establishment of
the hospital was then realized.
After almost two years of planning and constructing, St. Camillus Hospital has
grown into existence. It is located at Brgy. Trinidad, along Maharlika Highway fronting
Calbayog Airport, and a six kilometers northwest of the city. It has forty-five bed
capacities with modern facilities and equipment and competent medical staff and
personnel.

On September 7, 1996, the St. Camillus Hospital of Calbayog City was blessed and
inaugurated with the presence of his Excellency Alessandro (the Italian Ambassador of
the Philippines), Mrs. Imelda R. Marcos (the First Lady the of the Philippines) and the
Bishops of the dioceses of Samar and Leyte. The institution then opened for out-patient
services and after a year on May 26, 1997, St. Camillus Hospital opened for its in-patient
services.

At present, the St. Camillus Hospital of Calbayog City have blossomed to a more
services-oriented and people-centered healthcare institution. It was able to establish a
number of programs for our less fortunate brothers and sisters in the city and its nearby
municipalities. To mention a few: the St. Camillus Health Insurance Program (SCHIP),
Rehabilitation Center (especially for the disabled children through the help of Liliane
Foundation Philippines) and the Mother and Child Health Care Program.

The Institution not only conducted outreach or medical missions in the nearby island
towns and barangay of Calbayog City but also it reaches out to their province as well. Not
only that, the institution had its pharmacy opened twenty four seven, upgraded the
laboratory services to level three and further improved the Operating Room, Intensive Care
Unit and other specialized nursing areas.

The St. Camillus Hospital Calbayog, amidst the pressing needs and the challenges of the
times, as to realize its vision and mission, still stand tall in upholding Camillian charism of
“PUTTING MORE HEART INTO OUR HANDS”, For its desires and longs to make
difference in the lives of the people in Western Samar by providing quality, efficient and
compassionate care to its clients.
