Previewing and Making Predictions
Previewing and Making Predictions
Before you start on a road trip, you usually look at map. Then you have a
better idea of the roads the places. You can plan your trip better and have fewer
problems.
You can do this before you starts reading, too. Some parts of passage are
like a map. If you look at these parts, you can get a lot of information before
you read a passage. Then you can make guesses about the passage.
When you look for information before you read, this is called previewing.
When you make guesses about the passage, this is called making predictions.
Previewing and making predictions help you read faster and understand better.
The reason for this is simple: You know a little more about what you will read.
You should always preview and make predictions before you read!
Example:
Practice preview and making predictions with three envelopes. Look at
the writing and the return addresses. Look at the stamps and the dates in the
postmarks. Then answer the questions that follow.
