Linear Equations
Lessons 1-3,4,5
Solutions to Quick Review Worksheet:
Slope-intercept form:
y = mx + b
We are very familiar with this. Use it when you know or can determine slope & y-intercept.
Point-slope form:
y - y = m(x - x )

Use when you have slope and one point. Rearrange the equation into slope-intercept or standard form as requested.
Standard form:
Ax + By = C*
Use when you have slope and one point. A and B must be integers (but not both zero) and A should be positive. Rearrange the equation into slope-intercept or standard form as requested.
Sample Problems:
Ex. Write the equation of a line with a slope of - and a y-intercept of 7, then put it in STANDARD form.
Slope-intercept form:
y = mx + b
Standard form:
Ax + By = C*
Ex. Use point-slope form to find the equation of a line with a slope of -6, passing through the point (1, -3). Write the final answer in both slope-intercept & standard forms.
Ex. Find the equation in standard form for a line that passes through the points (6, -1) & (3, -3).
