Day 1 (02 Sep 2010)

Pujya Sri Datta Vijayananda Teertha Swamiji has started Surya Saptaha as
His sixth saptaha in his series of Saptha Saptahas.Pujya Sri Bala Swamiji
has started the saptaha with Guru Prarthana.
1.

The day marks its start with the glorious presence of The Sun God

for all of us. The Suns rays wake up all the living organisms and the Sun
God brings activity in all of them. He is the Para Brahma Swarupa. How
much ever we speak of The Sun God, there is always still much to
conjecture

He

is

the

Pratyaksha(visible)

God.

He

is

the

God

of

consciousness. Gayathri mantra of the Sun God is,

BHASKARAYA VIDMAHE MAHA DYUTHIKARAYA DHEEMAHI
TANNO ADITYA PRACHODAYATT
Knowledge is the offering presented during the Surya Yagna while we offer
Dravyas (different variety of commodities) in the other Yagnas. This
is Gyana Yagna.
In the story of Vishnu Datta, when lord Dattatreya manifests in front of
him, and is ready to grant him a boon, Vishnu Datta does not remember
anything to ask for. Then his wife Suseelamma (wife is half part who
represents the worldly matters) reminds him of his father's annual
ceremony and asks Him to request Lord Dattatreya to attend the ceremony
and bless them. Then he invites the Lord to reside as the priest over the
ceremony. In such ceremonies, atleast two bhoktas (considered to be the
representatives of their ancestors) are to be invited. In his excitement of
Having the lord himself in the house, Vishnu datta forgets to invite the
other bhoktas.Lord Dattatreya enquires about the two bhoktas who are
supposed to be present there. In that situation Suseelamma invites the Sun
God and the God ofFire (Agni) with lot of devotion. They also want to take

part in ceremony as it has its uniquness with the divine presence of lord
Dattatrya and the delicious food, made by Suseelamma. With that incident
all the ancestors of Vishnu datta attained salvation. Sri Swamiji composes a
bhajan on the way Susheelamma invites Surya Deva to come to their house
and be the bhokta of the ceremony,while narrating "Datta Darshanam".

Hashathi Jagathi-the whole world is filled with happiness.
NoDaithi Nosthamaithi-There is no rising or setting for the Sun actually.
The Sun neither revolves nor rotates. There is a little movement similar to a
stick has at the time of transformation when it is burnt. The speed of the
Sun is beyond our comprehension. No activity is there without sun. Though
we get irritated by the sultriness of the bright Sun we still like the Sun. This
is similar to our love towards our Guru [even if the Guru shouts and scolds
us]. The Sun is the best friend of every living organism on the Earth. We
contact all our friends but forget the most important friend of us, the Sun.
Surya Namas:
Mithraya Namaha-Tells that the Sun is the best friend of us and the first
thing we are to do everyday is Surya Namaskara.

Sishyahrudpadma Suryaya (The Sun God who makes the lotus like hearts of
the disciples to blossom)
The diameter of the Sun is 13, 92,000km which is 109 times to the
diameter of the Earth which is 13,000km.
One Sishya asked his Guru to enlighten him with the details and about the
power of Sun God. In Ramayana, Sugreeva explaines the details of the

earth. The earth is so vast that Sugreeva himself could not explain the
details of the earth as vividly as it existed, when heonly made an attempt of
doing so in The Ramayana, Then,how can any one explain the details the
Sun God who is 109 times bigger than the Earth ?
None other can speak in totality of the Sun than a Sadguru. He is
compassionate. He makes the disciple to think in easy terms. He helps in his
sadhana. The Guru is asking his SishyaGuru: Kim Jyothistava?-What is jyothi(light) in your opinion?
Sishya: Bhanumana Hanime.-The Sun in the morning time.
Guru: Raatrau?- During the night?
Sishya: Pradeepadikam.- Stars, Planets and constellations ;lamp also gives
light in the night time.
Guru: Sya devam :satyame?-when the lights are put off ,then where is the
light??
Ravi deepa darsana vidhau?-how can blind people see the light?
Sishya: They imagine and feel the happiness.
Guru : Kim jyothirabhyahime?-What is needed to see them
Sishya: Chakshhu.-Eyes
Guru: Tasya nimilinadhi samaye?-during the sleep time?
Sishya: Buddhi.-Mind ;Intellect
Guru: Dhiyo darshane?-where is the light to look at your mind?
Sishya: Aham.-I

Aham grahopasana-I am the Brahma

Guru: Ato bhavan._You gave the answer yourself.

Guru: Parama Tam Jyathihi. Since you are there you realized your inner
Light.Guru says that the sishya comes now to the correct point.
The Sun is very big but is the use for me?
You are confining to the limitations imposed by you. But you are limitless.
You spread and travel in to the infinite.

Then the Guru and the Sishya remain in silence-You are the Sun.
Dont underestimate or ignore yourself. Improve your self confidence.
Sri Swamiji advised one and all to recite Slokas on Surya Deva.
There is no country without the worship of the Sun God.
Surya Devo Divijabhyaha- The Sun God is the lord of the celestials.

MORNING:
-BrahmaSwarupamBuddhi (mind), gnana (knowledge) and Prerana (intuition) start to work.
AFTERNOON:
-Madhyannetu Mahesvaram- Rudra rupiKills bacteria, virus and dangerous insects. The Sun God saves the world and
living organisms from the dangerous organisms. This is between 10am to
4pm.
EVENING:
-Sayam dhayet sada Vishnum.Favourable time for Bhakti tattva-devotional mood.

Tamoghnam sarvapapaghnam pranatosmi divakaram.

Namaskara priyo BhanuhPlease the Sun God by doing Namaskara.The Sun God gives us the power.
His place in our body is Atmasthana. Let us pray to the Sun God Who
makes us Knowledgeable. Without meditating upon any Mantra of Surya,we
are

able

to

have

His

Darshan. All

the

living

organisms

like

the

cattle, Birds, terrestrial and aquatic animals are all able to look at the
Sun, without any effort, just by lifting their heads.If people do not lift the

head to look at the Sun God, He himself gives darshan, in a bucketful of

water or a lake. That is the greatness of Surya.
Very innocent people living in forests are also able to see the Sun
God. Salutations

to such Sun God who is giving us all the comforts in

life whether we ask it or not, whether we are in gratitude or not.My Sun

God rises bright, luminous and scorching for my sake.Salutations to that
God!!! The Sun god stands as an example to all of us to be the same in the
state

poverty

riches

being

the

morning

time, after noon and also in the evening.time.Salutations to such a Sun

God. Just before the dawn, we find the rays of the Sun and that light is
USHA MATA(personified feministic ally as Usha)!

called Mayura shatakam.

History of Mayura shatakam:
Mayura and Bana were brothers-in -law. Bana was Mayura's sister's
husband. One day, Mayura went to see his sisiter and brother in law(
Bana).By the time he reached their place,it was mid night. He never wanted
to disturb and hence he waited outside while Inside the house the couple
were engrossed in a romantic dialogue between them in the form of
shloka. Since, at those times, they used to speak in the poetic for, Bana
uttered three lines of a poem and Mayura out of his enthusiasm, uttered
the fourth line which was not all that decent. Bana was upset with his
interference and cursed Mayura that he would suffer from leprosy.
Mayura confessed that he uttered it out of enthusiasm and not with any
other bad intention or muse and cursed back Bana that he would suffer
from Kshaya [Tuberculosis].Bana wrote a stotra to get rid of Kshaya[TB]
and Mayura wrote "Mayura Shathakam" to get rid of leprosy.

an

arrangement in such a way that he tied himself to 100 ropes and after
completion of one shloka, one rope would be cut off. In that way, he wrote
99 shlokas and 99 ropes were cut off. If the 100th rope also would be cut
off Mayura would fall into a fire pit and die.Having observed this, Surya
deva manifested and saved Mayura.With the divine blessings of Surya
Deva, Mayura got rid of leprosy and was blessed. Thatis how,Mayura
Shathakam is popular.
In another story,it was told that Mayura made a comment in an
unParliamentary language in the preence of his sister. Having gone wild, his
sister cursed Mayura to suffer from Kshaya. Again the repented Mayura
requested his sister to pardon him. With compassion, she instructed him to
write

wrote the Shathaka on Aditya(The Sun God)and got rid of kshaya with the
divine blessings of the Sun God.Today's dicourse is based on the content of

The Sun God is in the Pranavaswarupam-Omkara swarupam.One who
worships The Sun in the form of Brahma can cross the Sun to attain
salvation.
When you are in the spiritual path dont think about science. Where science
ends starts philosophy. Dont mix them both. There is the mention of science
in the Vedas. Its place is fourth in order.

Annamayam,

Pranamayam,

Manomayam and

Vignanamayam.

Science helps us to widen our range and to join everyone. It helps us to

attend to our duties. But we attain Happiness only in spirituality. The Sun
God is Visible directly and protects us. He is riding on 7 horses which
symbolize the 6 chakras and he is in Sahasraram, the7th place. In the
journey of life, the one who prays to him as Brahmethi (in the form of
Brahma) , crosses the Surya Mandala.Even the soldiers who protect the
country in the border and sacrifice their lives for the sake of the country
also cross the Suryamandala.Those who gain the knowledge of Brahmethi
also gets the samefruit.. As a man has three phases namely childhood, youth
and old age likewise The Sun is known to undergo three phases namely:
Baladitya,(morning Sun-Baby Sun)
Purna yavvana sthayi Rudra rupa kirana(severe rays in the noon time)
andAsthamaya rupam(sinking Sun)
The Sun God is to be worshipped at Prathah Sandhya(dawn),Madhyanika
Sandhya(noon) and Sayam Sandhya(dusk).

The Sun is produced from OM kaaram. (The Big Bang theory).

Chaksho Suryo AjayathaThe Sun is born from the eyes of Paramatma. This is the reason for the
brightness inthe Sun. Surya Aradhana rectifies eye problems. Every day one
must look at the setting sun. Dont look at the Sun at the time of
eclipse. Bharadwaja Maharshi created foot wear and the umbrella to
protect his wife from the scorching Sun. He also createdthe aero plane to
satisfy his wifes desire to travel around the country but destroyed this
novelty of aeronautical science thinking it as a luxury which is to be avoided.
But his son could save only 20% of that science which is known as Bharadwaja Vaimanika ShastramKraushtuke.

the Prime protector. He graces all equally. Brightness is his form. He takes

the form of Knowledge in us. His form is very clear. He is the consciousness
for attaining salvation.
Surya Aradhana is compulsory for achievements of life. He gives intelligence
(never express inability, dont go into depression), understanding capacity,
memory and also forgetfulness (to forget your sorrows. Only sympathy
seekers remember their sorrows).He is the embodiments of knowledge which
can be utilized. These are the forms of the Sun God according to
Markandeya Maharshi.

The day being very auspicious, since it is an Ekadasi and the last Saturday
of Shravana month. A very favourite day forLord Venkateswara. Pujya Sri
Swamiji is right now in Sri Datta Venkateswara Temple in Mysore.
We have to thank God for this Life, for seeing light on such an auspicious
day and for our association with Dattapeetham and Pujya Sri Swamiji.
There are 84 lakhs of living organisms in various forms. We cannot
perceive but can only imagine in what form

we were born

in our

previous births- whether it was an ant ,fish, bird or a snake. It is

only a Sadguru who knows about our previous lives (Janmas).Taking birth as
a

human

being

itself

is worthy. Above all,

we

are

with

Pujya

Sri

Swamiji,which isour Imense fortune.Blessed are we!!We have to pray

Manushyatwam(Humanity) and

Mumukshatwam(striving for salvation).We are blind, though we have eyes

physically; Hence we fail to know God's existence.

Finally the Guru stops us from our aimless roaming and saves us by holding
us intact.
Like our Sadguru, the Sun God also removes ignorance and darkness from
our lives and fills our lives with light and knowledge. The Sun God is
Brahma swarupa.

The Sun God is saving us from all expected and unexpected dangers.

Every day we have to pray the Sun God during the mornings, requesting
Him

to

bless

and

take

care

of

ourselves, our

family

members, friends, relatives and also cattle, trees and birds; all the living
organisms under the Sun. Also, when the Sun sets, we have to pray in the
same way. If a day has passed, it means that 12 hrs of our life span is
spent. Hence we have to request the Sun God not to count [deduct]
those 12 hrs of our life span and give more strength to live longer and
stronger. The Sun God is Praana kari.(Life giver in more than one sense)
Dawn is described in another way.
When The Sun rises, He is very docile, polite and peaceful making us forget
the hot and sultry weather of the previous day .But by noon, when hes
overhead, His

The day before, Martanda Aavirbhavam[birth] was dicussed based on
vedas. Today let us discuss the same based on Purana, written by the great
sage VEDA VYASA.
Lord

Brahma

came

out

of

huge

egg

with

four

faces.

Four

Vedas emerged of his four faces. The severity of the Sun evaporated all the
water sources on the Earth. Creation is not possible without water. So lord
Brahma plead to the Sun God to reduce his intensity. He prayed with all
the

mantras

in

the

Vedas. Aditya

Swami

is

in

Brahma, Vishnu and Maheswara Swarupa. One cannot see the Sun directly
but can visualize only with the words of his Guru. One cannot understand
his power by senses, words or mind but can understand only by feeling.
Lord Brahma prayed to his peaceful brilliance with stotras. Stotras are
powerful with mantras.

You are in the form of fire it ran, You make all the saplings bear fruit, You
are protecting the world in the form of the five elements.
Namaste Deva Rupayaa Yagna Rupaayate Namaha
Para Brahma Swaroopaya Chintya Manaya Yogibhi.
You are formless with your brilliance. You are the Paramatma.
The Sun God was pleased with these stotras and reduced his severity. Then
Brahma started his creation. Surya Deva isthe Prime God in the process of
creation.
As mentioned earlier, Surya Deva is the son of Aditi and Kashyapa Marishi.
Then all the deities were born to them. In the battle between Devatas
(angels) and the Danavas (demons), Aditi mata seeked the help of Surya
deva. It is notable here that the Mother is praying to her son. She prayed
him following all the niyamams(Rules and Rites) and she went on a fast. She
prayed to the Savarini (shining like gold) form of the Sun- the rays falling
on the Earth taking unwanted polluted water and giving the purest form
of water to the world and theradiance which lasts for eight months
and showering rains and coolness for four months for the sake of the living
organisms on the Earth.
The Sun evaporates the water with his severity, holds the water as a
mother holds a child in her womb and giveschildlike raindrops to this world.
He takes the form of the raiser of the medicinal plants which gives power
to the ailing patients. While taking medicine, one must Chant Dhanvantari

Dhanvantari, which makes the medicine to work effectively. She prayed to

his Tarani (who helps to cross as a boat) rupam(form), Winter form which
nourishes the time, rainy form (The Sun is so compassionate that he helps
to see the clouds which shadow him) and his Spring form which gives cool
breeze.
One must Surrender to the lord of the ancestors, Pray to him by giving
oblation to the ancestors. While giving oblations to the ancestors at any
Teertha (while taking holy bath in the sacred rivers) one should remind all
the ancestors. The ancestors in their subtle body get satisfied by the
oblations given. She prayed him in the form of the Moon.
Namastasmai Paramatmane
The Sun appeared in front of her as she Prayed him saying that he is the
form of trinity, brilliance, rays, the Creator Brahma, The Protector Vishnu
and the Pralaya kala Rudra and asked him to come as a baby as she could
not bear his luminosity.
Then He answered saying that he neither could he be born again nor could
reduce his form. And he graced her with a boon that his Ashtama sahasra
amsa (8/1000 of his power) will be born as a son to her and destroy the
demons.
His amsa entered her womb. It is not advisable to a pregnant lady to go on
fasting. But Aditi mata continued her fast for the well being of her son.
Kashyapa Maharishi , on observing this chided her by asking- Are you going
to kill the baby? She was furiated and took out the egg from her womb
and

left

it

on

the

ground.

The

egg

was

glowing

with

brilliance.Kashyapa repented and prayed to the egg feeling that he was

causative for this to happen. Then an invisible voice said that the egg was

born with the words "MRUTHA ANDA? "(Are you going to kill the egg?)
And he would be called as MARTHANDA.He was born to bring happiness to

son. Yama and Yamuna(river) were the twins born to them. Sangjna mata
could not bear the severity of the Sun and called her shadow Chaya and
asked her to stay there in her form. She had agreed on a condition that
whenever the Sun gets furiated on her she would reveal her original
identiy. Sangjna left to her father's place and from there to the forest
taking the form of a horse to peruse penance.
Savarini Manuvu was the son of Sandhya (Chaya) and her second son Was
Sanaiswara and her daughter was Tapathi (River).Sagjna putra Yama could
not bear the step motherly behavior of Sandhya and one day lifted his leg
to kick her. Then she cursed him that he looses his leg. Yama was shocked to
hear that. How could a mother curse her son? He went to his father and
complained about this. Then The Sun said that no one could reverse the
curse of a mother. It could be reduced but no solution was there to reverse
the mothers curse. Then he said "let the insects eat the meat from your leg
and let it fall on the ground so that he doesnt turn limp." Then he
questioned Sandhya in anger and revealed the truth to him. Then the Sun
also took the form of a horse (ashwam) and went to Kurukshetram to meet

his wife where she was in penance. From the breath of them Ashwini
Devathas were born and they became the Vaidyas (doctors) of the

Those who pray to Surya Deva are relieved of the problems created by
Shani and Yama.Surya is the origin for the Atman and removes the agony
of Atman. The Moon is the base of the mind and Mangal protects the bones.
To remove the problems of the Shani, Suryaaradhana is recommended as
all the Surya Mantras apply to Shani also.
Surya in search of Sangna mata went to Viswakarma, his father in
law. Following the upadesha of Brahma he prayed Surya to permit him to
reduce the intensity of his heat by grinding his rays as they are unbearable
even by his wife. This process of grinding is called Surya Tanu Lekhanam.
In Shakha Dweepam with the permission of Surya the grinding process had
taken place. Surya is the naval of the creation. So while grinding all the
mountains, oceans, trees, forests, the Earth and the Sky have trembled. All
the stars were seemed to be falling down, the clouds had clashed and
thundered severely. But this was all for the well being of the creation.
Vishwakarma, Gandharvas, Yakshas, Kinneras and Kimpurushas had prayed
to SuryaDeva. You are with a form and as well as formless and we pray
you with such a status. Reduce the Pralaya during your grinding process.
Let all the beings with four legs and two legs are happy. All were singing

MADHU VIDYA-AMRUTHA VIDYA.
Surya Deva is visualized as a bee hive in Madhu Vidya. Madhu means Honey.
Words of honey are filled in us. Mind, words and deeds are to be like honey.
The Sat karmas (good deeds) by us are all put together is Bhanu Mandalam.
Om Shanthi Shanthi Shanthihi!
Let my body, words, life, eyes, ears, power, senses and limbs get satisfied as
they may cause any obstacles in the path of spirituality. Let me gain faith in
the Brahma explained in the Upanishads. Let me procure the Shraddha to
gain knowledge and let not the knowledge gained to leave me. Let not the
knowledge on unnecessary matters reach my ears. Let all the virtues in the
Upanishads be procured by me.

Chandogyo Upanishad is upasana Vidya. In Upasana, materials and idols are

not required. Upasana is visualization. The process of puja is Karma. At the
end of the puja we sit in silence and that is upasana. After the puja
recollecting the rupam is dhyanam, the meditation, Brahma margam and
Gnana margam. Talking and explaining our situation to Swamiji is Karama.
At the end we sit in silence and look in to his eyes and Sadguru also looks to
you. And this is Upasana. After coming out recollecting Swamijis form is
Dhyanam. We experience all these three stages at our Sadguru Deva.
Aditya Mandalam is compared with (Sri Bala Swamiji has shown a model)
inner side of a lotus flower. It is like bee hive. Surya is also like a bee hive.
The visual Surya gives divine honey to the Devatas. The base for a bee hive is
in the upper side. The Rays are the bees. The bees take the Karma Phala
(fruits of the deeds) to fill the Surya mandala and enhance the brilliance of
the Sun. So those who are the cause of the Karma are the base for
theSurya Mandala. Surya is the creator. We came to the Earth through his
rays and repaying him through our good deeds. Hence Surya gives the
Divine Honey for the deities.
The Yagnas, Yagas, Penance, Vratas and Pujas preformed by us are carried
in the form of Amruta by the rays to the Surya Mandala. The Amruta
turns

dark) and Tejo Varna(brilliance). They are seen in the subtle form. These

Brahma Aikya (unison). It is the Madhu Vidya which helps to attain Para
Brahma Aikya. It is up to us to fill the honey with good deeds.
Datta Stavam gives a Karma Phala. Madhu Vidya gives the power of the
celestials to us. We enjoy the Amruta in the form of Vasu and Vasu Rudra,
depending

upon

the

karma

phala

acquired

by

us.

All

those

who

reach Surya Mandala will observe the Ahangrahopasana there. Madhu Vidya
explains that the Sun rises in all the sides. We can analyze this by the
different times on the globe on different sides of the globe. Not only the
Earth but also there are more worlds like Indra loka and Yama loka which
have longer times of the Sunrise and the Sunset which results in double
enjoyment of the fruits.
With Surya Upasana after our life time we reach Aditya Mandalam in Vasu
rupam and all our impurities get burnt and are bestowed with Brahma
Swaroopa by the Surya Deva. Janma Rahityam (state of no more births) is
graced by Surya Deva. Madhu Vidya discusses all this Knowledge of Janma
Rahityam.

Machilipatnam devotees long awaited hearts blossomed on the arrival of

Pujya Sri Swamiji.By offering the garland and prostrating at the lotus feet
of Sadguru deva Pujaya Sri Bala Swamiji taught everybody how "Sadguru"
has to be honored by a true disciple. Then the Machilipatnam committees
Swagatha Vachana (welcome address) went in a poetic way.

Sri Swamiji enters Machilipatnam as the "Sun God", to the lotus hearts of
the disciples. Pujya Sri Swamiji is the Omnipresent and Paramatma who
needs no special welcome. since HE is all pervading. But to follow the
procedure and formality of sishya dharma (duty of a disciple) we do
humbly welcome pujya Sri Swamiji. Sri Bala Swamijis humble welcome to
Pujya Sri Swamiji made the devotees happy.Swagatam Suswagatam.
Some of the devotees approached Sri Bala Swamiji and said it had been two
months since they had Sri Swamijis darshan, some said two weeks, some
said two years; but Sri Bala Swamiji met Sri Swamiji in the month of June
and it is like two Yugas, since then for Him. As per the niyamas (rules) of
the Chaturmasya Vrata Deeksha, Sri Bala Swamiji is not supposed to leave

Machilipatnam just before the welcome Sabha , after a tediuos journey,Sri

Bala Swamiji requested Sri Swamiji to grace the devotees with a few words

Sri Swamiji started his Anugraha Bhashana by saying Hari Om Tatsat.Jaya
Guru Datta!
Sri Swamiji said that Machilipatnam is a place with religious and spiritual
background. The ancestors of the place had practiced spirituality due to
which all the devotees are considered as Blessed to have been born in
Machilipatnam.The new people who joined in the houses oh Machilipatnam
are also blessed with the aura of the ancestral spiritual treasure of the
natives of Machilipatnam. The blessings have been like the passing waves
from one generation to the other. Scientifically the impact of the name of
the God uttered (Nama Japa ) prevails in the aura of a person for forty
years. Suppose a child starts chanting the name of the God (Hari Nama
Smarana) at its age of four and when it reaches its ninetieth year it gets
multiplied in such away that it reflects as full life span in seven lives to
come. The good and soft words spoken with noble mind also get registered
in the aura. In the same manner bad words also get registered and
resonate in your ears. Our elders advice us to utter good words always.
Divya Nama Sankeerthana (singing the names of the God) done gets
registered and reaches the grand children as a property. Such property can
be acquired by you for yourself also. The spiritual property which you pass
on to the next generations is of utmost significance when compared to the
materialistic property.
The annual ceremonies of the ancestors (pitrudevatas) are to be performed
with diligence. The physical presence and participation is very much
required on such occasions. By assigning the duty to the priest by paying

duly without personal participation, the priest gets blessed by the ancestors
,whom they consider as their friend. Even Annadana (Feeding ) is effective
when the daata (one who offers food or pays for Annadana) participates
personally in the act of serving the food. Just donating money is not a
complete fruitful act. Annadana, Namasankeerthana and Guru Seva are to
be done personally. Emperors of the past also had done Guru Seva
personally.
Generally people invite Sri Swamiji to visit their houses requesting Swamiji
to bless them Who ever invites Sadguru has to be very careful in
maintaining protocol and following the most important and minute
principles involved in Guru Seva.They personally are supposed to make all
the arrangements including whitewashing of the house if possible. Even
though the person is sick he has to participate in the arrangements made to
the maximum extent possible for him. A healthy person has to clean the
house personally without hiring help. All the arrangements are to be made
by the master of the house. Never make Swamiji to wait for any thing. By
time Sadguru comes to the house if the garland is not ready, put
equivalent amount at the feet of Sadguru but never make him to wait. All
the offerings are to be kept ready which are to be offered at the end of
Pada pooja to avoid searching for them at the end, thus making His
Holiness to wait. The lamps and agarbattis are to be handled carefully to
avoid hazards caused in the presence of Sadguru . Sadgurus attention gets
deviated when His Holiness is supposed to give blessings. Safe dressing is
advised during Pada pooja.
All our contaminated sense organs are purified with one namasmarana like
thousand crows get scattered with one pebble. By chanting Govinda,
Vittala, Hari, Guru Datta with devotion all the sins get vanished along
with their families. Saints like Purandara Das, Annamayya sing without

expecting any alms from people. For them the God exists in each and every
house in the form of grand parents, parents, sons, daughters etc.They wake
up the God who is asleep in the different forms in the houses. The good
hearted people give them a fist full of rice as bhiksha and the lazy people
curse them for waking them up early in the morning. However the saints
keep going chanting Govinda, Krishna, VittalaIt is our responsibility to
realize that these saints came to the Earth to perform all good deeds and
return to heaven. They dont bother for the positive or negative reactions of
people around them.
In New Orleans, USA, there was a Music Concert for Healing and
Meditation. As the attendance of the audience was very poor, the organizers
were not ready to start the concert.Appaji enquired two three times about
the reason for the delay and nobody was dare enough to tell the truth. It
was a prestigious concert in which renowned musicians were to accompany
Sri Swamiji. Suddenly Sri Swamiji said that they would have a stage
practice, everybody got settled on the dais and Swamiji started the concert
withPranava SwaroopamSuddenly as if from nowhere,, people started
cropping in Somebody switched on the lights in the Hall and the hall was
overflowing with audience to the astonishment of the organisors.Initially,
though Sri Swamiji had noticed only thirty people to be present in the hall,
Sri Swamiji never thought to cancel the Concert .Sri Swamiji never stops
for anyone. It is our duty to catch up with His Holiness.
Never abuse anybody, sitting in front of your food.
Namasankeerthana should get imbibed into us as natural as the breathing
process.
Do Namasmarana continuously while doing your work.
By practicing Namasmarana, you will forget your sorrow, pain, insult and
everything that bother you.

In Surya Saptaha, many topics like the greatness of Sun God, family of the
Sun God, Amrutha Vidya- Madhu Vidya have been discussed. The fruit of
the saptaham has been received by us all in the form of Sri Swamiji.
Though the materialistic education is necessary to keep us going in the
world, the real Atma Vidya can be acquired only in the presence of
Sadguru. The lotus feet of Sadguru is the parking place for the disciples
mind driven and exhausted in Lifes Ride.
Among the thirty Vidyas(Knowldge), six are dealt with discussing the Sun
GodsVidya. In Akshi Upanishat, there is a section on the effects of
ChakshusmatiVidya. By knowing the result before hearing to the discussion
creates more interest in hearing to it.
On the auspicious day of Krishnashtami, Sri Bala Swamiji after completing
the puja has been observing the ashramite children playing Utti from the
first floor of the ashram.
All the children were participating in which Pavan Kumar, who is the
performer of Yagna every day also cheerfully tookpart in the act of hitting

the utti on his eye. But it has missed his eye by half an inch and
scratching the skin there, lightly above his eye. This is the effect of
Chakshusmati vidya. When just the remembrance has given such an effect
then one can imagine the effect of the knowledge and study of the
Chakshushmati Vidya!!!

Chakshuvu means the eye. Sadguru reacts to the inconvenience caused to his
devotees like an eye reacts when dust enters the eye.

Chakra rupa Ganapathy has also been prayed before starting the charitra.
It marked a start before learning about Chakshushmati Vidya enabling the
mind to remember it whenever a need arises.
When the Sun God was on his chariot of seven horse, Saankruthi Maharshi
prayed to the Sun God with Surya upasana and that upasana is known to
mankind, presented as Chakshushmati Vidya. All the physical ailments can
be erased and self realization can be acquired by Surya Prarthana. One who
prays to the Sun God can be relieved of the eye problems and no one in the
next seven generations to come in his family will be born blind.

cannot feel that the Sun is shining for him only. Likewise, out of devotion
one can feel that Sadguru is there for him but should not feel that He is

Our Sadguru Sri Swamiji also visualized the mantras [which are not found
in any Veda] before initiating them to us. They are:

The Sun God graced the Maharshi by granting that by remembering or
recalling the Chakshushmati vidya, one can be relieved of all the eye
problems and that family will not see a blindoffspring. The mere knowledge
about the vidya itself is very effective.
But Sankruthi Maharshi was not content with what he had attained.He
requested to be initiated into Brahma Vidya and be blessed with. Sankrithi
Maharshi was thus initiated into Brahma Vidya by Surya Deva which is the
real Akshi Vidya.
Sapta Bhumika Vidya:
Life starts in the fathers body and emanates in the mothers womb. After
taking birth one has to practice the spirituality to attain salvation after
living ones complete life span.
After birth, till about ten years of age, children are said to be in ignorant.
There

are

exceptions

that

possesses

immense

knowledge

in

their

childhood.[Child prodigies] They are said to be the forms of God(Gods

attributes are clearly perceivable in them).
From the age of eleven a child starts to gain knowledge on different
materialistic aspects which help him earn a livelihood. From then onwards,
every ten years the lifes perception gets changed. From the age of twenty
one, a person starts concentrating on the methods of earning. From the age

of thirty one, improves the methods of earning. From the age of forty one
searches for the methods to multiply his acquired wealth. From the age of
fifty one, he tries to get social recognition. From the age of sixty one, he
creates his own abode. From the age of seventy one he concentrates on the
family welfare and from the age of eighty one, he live peacefully with
contentment when A Samskara called Sahasra Chandra Darshanamis
performed indicating that he should

be as contented as the Full Moon.

Meanwhile a person has to indulge into yogaSadhana.

This is called Yoga bhumika. The seed cannot get sprouted without a bhumi,
kshetrum (base, foundation). There are Sapta bhumikas-seven steps in this
phase.
o Feel the presence of Sadguru and the Paramaatma every
where.
o Make your children practice Neeti Mala, Guru Gita and
Bhagavat Gita.
o All the points in the Vedas were discussed in Bhagavat
Gita by Bhagavan Sri Krishna.
o Bhagavan directs one to do ones duty and offer the fruits
to Paramatma.
o Ones duty would be fruitful only when one enjoys while
rendering his duty.
o Sadhaka has to do the deeds which are not harmful to
others.
o Sadhaka has to do his duty without neglecting his
responsibilities.
Power of the words (Vaakshakthi) is equal to the nuclear power. So Sadhaka
is not supposed to use bad words and words instigating anxiety. Though he
would get the urge utter them, he is supposed to control himself from using

bad words. Sadguru helps the Sadhaka in doing so. A Sadhaka is not
supposed to give evil advices to anyone. A story of two friends has been
narrated by Sri Bala Swamiji to explain the effect of the evil advice.
STORY:
In a town there was a couple, of which the husband was very cruel and
would beat his wife. One such time, while beating so, he hit her in such a
way that she died. When he had been in confusion as to how to inform his
parents in law and other relatives, his friend advised him to kill any young
man and place the head of that young man by her side so that everybody
would be sympathetic of the husband for the illegal attitude of his wife.
With that horrible evil advice, he left for his home and the husband caught
hold of a young lad, murdered him and cut his head and placed it near his
dead wife. The next day the evil advisor went to his friends house to check
out on his advice and added that he was upset that his young son was
missing from the previous night. To his fury, he found his sons head near
the dead body and was blinded with rage; and killed his friend also. Such
would be the effects of the evil advices. They back fire the same person and
show their immediate effects. Advices of Sadguru are to be followed always.
Mind should be the indicator of the word and deed. This is the first step in
Bhoomika.
The Sadhaka who keeps his Foundation clean and strong can cross all the six
chakras and reaches the seventh chakra that is sahasrara. Let this Yoga
taught by Surya Deva be imbibed by one and all. Let us all be protected by
the Chakshusmati vidya.One must try to Practice this.

Arka Swami is another name for Surya deva. Arka name drives the
markata nature (nature of the monkey) from our minds and helps to get
settled in mind.
Arkasura was a demon who thought himself to be equal to the Sun God as
his name resembled the God Arka. He had decided to eat people who
would take Avabhruda snana (dip in the holy river after performing Yagna)
in the holy river Surya teertha. He took the form of a crocodile and had
gulped the people who ever entered the teertha. Slowly people stopped to
take the holy dip in that teertha. Then Arkasura had taken the form of a
demon to eat the people who ever had performed the sacrifices. All the
people had hidden themselves in the forests stopping all the spiritual deeds
in the fear of Arkasura. The celestials and the people on the Earth are
interdependent. Celestials would gain power with the spiritual rituals
performed by the people on the Earth and in turn protect them from all

the evils. All the planetary power is acquired through the rituals performed
by the virtuous people on the Earth. Base for the rituals is Vedam and base
for Vedam is Omkaram and the base for Omkaram is the Paramatma.
All the celestials and the people on the Earth had suffered and approached
Arkaaditya to protect them from Arkaasura.

Surya teertha to start the rituals again and take Avabrudha snana
inSurya teertha. Galava Maharshi had prepared himself to sacrifice his life
for the sake of the Universe and entered into the teertha. Arkaasura had
approached Galava to gulp him and at that time, Arkaaditya had increased
the severity of his rays and along with the waters of the Surya teertha
Arkaasura also got evaporated. And Aditya deva had turned the water
evaporated in to the clouds and filled the teertha again with rain water.
But he could not reduce his severity. All had prayed again and Sagna
Mata, wife of Surya deva took the form of Padmini (a lotus) and entered
into the lake and the severity of his rays got reduced when he had been
admiring the process of Padmini getting sprouted, budding and blossoming
into a beautiful lotus flower.

Pujya Sri Bala Swamiji proceeded with the divine pravachana of Surya
Saptaha in the series of sapta saptahas,going on in Machilipatnam during
the Chaturmasya vrata Deeksha.
Pujya Sri Bala Swamiji started His eloquent Pravachana with Guru Dhyana
shlokas, Ganapati bhajan and Surya bhajans.
BHAJAN:

arka ganapati do suksma budhi!!
Why do we sing bhajan very frequently? Because, we like it! Cows ruminate
the food they eat. We just chew and swallow .Memorising always reinforces
the knowledge. In case of Bhajans, since they have Bijaaksharas, they work
like

Upasana. They

are

nothing

but

Upadesa

by

our

Sadguru. Sometimes, familiarity breeds contempt. But it is never the case

with Pujya Sri Swamiji's Bhajans. The more we render, the more tastier the
Nama is ;and tastier than the mango fruit which is the most delicious of all
the fruits. That's why it is NAMRA Phala: which means Mango is nothing
compared to the taste of immense happiness, we derive ,while rendering
bhajans.

This is another wonderful Bhajan composed by Pujya Sri Swamiji. It is set
to the Raga which awakens the Surya Deva.But when does the Surya Deva
sleep to be woken up? He is always awake. He, like our Sadguru, takes care
of the people across the Globe. Aruna sukta says that the Sun God moves on
a chariot which has only one wheel. It is "Thaila chaalita yantram",a wheel
that runs with fuel. Hence It is Sri Surya Narayana who is known to
have created the "WHEEL". Meru moutain is the Irusu [Axle].
Listen carefully to the divine words of Mahatma (Sadguru), ponder over
them and take up research work on some topics like
Why is a black cloth offered to Shani? Why is oil used to adore Shani?
Etc. But after getting inference, do not dilute the significance. If we

are bestowed with intelligence, we have to practice and work more,

such that we will be of great help to the society.
Atleast for one year continuously one has to do "Surya Nmaskara"
Salutations to that Surya Deva who gives such instructions!!
Salutations to that Surya Deva who comes every day, uninvited, who seems
to be very close relative of everyone, who gives immense happiness to
everyone and the one who shares good and bad with everyone with a good
heart.
What shall I call such Surya Deva? Shall I call Him a teacher? A lecturer?
Or A professor?asks sri Bala swami.
All those who teach us at different levels of our academic standards are our
Gurus [Teachers] They teach everything and leave the decision and
discretion to us. Lord Krishna also, after imparting the divine knowledge, in
the form of Srimad Bhagavat Gita, left the decision to Arjuna!
But

it

is

only Sadguru, who

literally

makes

us

follow

the

right

path. Sadguru practises and stands exemplary for us to follow Him and
makes

us

walk

by

holding

our

hand. Hence

Sadguru

is

"ACHARYA".[Aachaarayatheethi Acharya]
It had been raining for the last few days. It had been so inconvenient in
many ways. But once the Surya Deva comes, we are all relieved with lot of
happiness since He cleanses the mind and Intellect, making them bright and
work efficiently.

his rays. Courage and stability are to be gained by the disciples of the
Sadguru.
The story of the King Rajya Vardhana who had hailed from the Surya
Vamsha(clan) many generations before Sri Rama had been the best example
for the grace of the Sun God.

The virtuous King Rajya Vardhana , the son of the king Damana had been
ruling his people in such a way that all his people had been living peacefully.
He had been looking after them with the love of a father. Manini, the
daughter ofVidhuratha was married to him. They had a son. King Rajya
Vardhana had been ruling his kingdom for seven thousand years and had
been looking for an appropriate time to announce his retirement and to
proceed for Vanaprastha (living in forest) by handing down his kingdom to
his son.
One day while applying oil to his head, queen Manini had observed a grey
hair and had started to cry in sorrow that a king from Surya vamsham
had never been troubled with old age. Then Rajya Vardhana had consoled
her saying that old age is a natural process of life, all the living beings would
cross all the natural processes in the life form. He had advised her to accept
the old age as a natural change of the nature. Childhood, adolescence, youth
and old age are the natural sequences in human life.
The entire kings ministry court men, family and his people had tried to
stop him but in vain. Noble decisions are to be implemented as soon as they
are made. He had proceeded to the forest along with his wife forbidding all
the people in his kingdom from following him to the forest. The people of
his kingdom were very fond of their king and were determined to call him
back from

the

forest.

They

had

probed

in

to

the

reason

of

his vanaprastha and came to a conclusion that this was all because of the
grey hair which had indicated his approaching old age. The whole kingdom
had decided to go on a penance of Surya deva, praying to grace their king
with complete health. Sadhana has to be done under the guidance of Guru.
Their

noble

cause

had

attracted

Gandharva

(a

celestial

form)

called Sudama. He had directed them to observe penance in a cave

called Guru Vishala on a huge mountain called Kaama roopa. All the five
elements would be joined to take the form of Guru to help a noble cause.

They had been praying to the Sun God in different ways.
At the time of Pralaya(dooms day), there would be nonstop rains and all
the water sources get merged and the water on the Earth would be
touching the clouds. But all of this is done by the Sun God to refresh the
creation.

the

journey ofspirituality, Surya

deva

helps

us

to

cross

the Surya mandala in the form of rays to attain salvation. Surya deva is
the cause for all the sacred rivers and no sacred bath is to be taken in the
rivers and the sea before the Sun rise. Say Praseeda Mama Bhaskara- by
giving oblation to the Sun God while taking the sacred bath in rivers and
the sea. Sun God is gracing the five elements from which the Earth is
formed. He is the Ekakshara swaroopi.He had been formed from the
sound ofOM
The Moon gets his light from the rays of the Sun so he prevails in the night
in

the

form

of

the

Moon.

had

All the people prayed him to grace their king with ten thousand years of
life span filled with energy, health, stamina, youth, wealth and a no enemy
kingdom. He had graced them and they had gone to the forest to explain
the happenings and to invite the King to the kingdom. But the king was
very sad for what they had done because it would be a misery to live so
long to witness the demise of all his kith and kin, his friends and his people,
as they were all of normal life span. This fact had not occurred to them as
they

were

very

anxious

to

bring

back

their

king.

The

king Rajya

Vardhana also proceeded to the cave Guha Vishala along with his wife to
perform penance. The Sun God had manifested within a short while as he
was a virtuous King.
King Rajya Vardhana prayed the Sun God to grace with the boon that all
the people living in his kingdom and those who were to born in his kingdom
also had to live along with him till the end of his life time and lead a
virtuous and devotional life. The Sun God was very happy and had graced
the king to live a religious life with wealth and enlightened mind. The people
were very happy under the virtuous rule of the king Rajya Vardhana.
Pratirnama Bhargava had sung the story of the king Rajya Vardhana and
his people and praised the power of the Sun God.
All the sins get washed to all those who hear or read of the king Rajya
Vardhana and he woul be prevented from committing new Sins.Those who
pray to the Sun God would be graced with health and wealth. They get
either salvation or a rebirth in a great family. Those who perform Surya
Namaskara, Suya Darshana, Chanting of Guru Mantra following the words
of the Guru and Kriya Yoga would be blessed with abundant grace.
Unmarried people would get married and married people would be lead in
to the path of salvation.
