ni Andres C. Bonifacio (Pluma: pp. 221-222)

7 Sa aba ng abang mawalay sa Bayan,

1 Aling pag-ibig pa ang hihigit kaya

* Meaning/summary in English italicized after every stanza.

gunita may laging sakbibi ng lumbay;

walang alaalat inaasam-asam
kundi ang makitay lupang tinubuan.
How sad to be far/separated from country. But even
when memory is burdened by sadness, nothing more is
hoped for than to see our country of birth.

sa pagkadalisay at pagkadakila
gaya ng pag-ibig sa tinubuang lupa?
Aling pag-ibig pa? Wala na nga, wala.

What love can surpass purity or greatness like love of

country? None.

2 Pagpupuring lubos ang palaging hangad

8 Pati ang nagdusat sampung kamatayan

wari ay masarap kung dahil sa Bayan,

at lalong maghirap, O, himalang bagay,
lalong pag-irog pa ang sa kanyay alay.

sa bayan ng taong may dangal na ingat.

umawit, tumula, kumathat sumulat,
kalakhan din niyay isinisiwalat.

Absolute praise & love for country is always the desire

of a man with honor. In song, poetry, writings, the
magnitude/vastness is revealed.

3 Walang mahalagang hindi inihandog
ng may pusong mahal sa Bayang nagkupkop,
dugo, yaman, dunong, katiisat pagod,
buhay may abuting magkalagut-lagot.

Misfortune & death seem lighter if suffered for the

country and the more that we suffer, the more our
love grows.

Nothing valuable to a person with a pure heart is

denied to the country that gave him birth/care. Blood,
wealth, knowledge, sacrifice. Even if life itself
ends/crumbles.

4 Bakit? Alin ito na sakdal ng laki
na hinahandugan ng buong pagkasi,
na sa lalong mahal nakapangyayari
at ginugugulan ng buhay na iwi.

Why? What is so great to which we dedicate our whole

being/utmost devotion, offer all that is dear to us and
to which life is given/sacrificed.

5 Itoy ang Inang Bayang tinubuan,
siya'y inat tangi na kinamulatan
ng kawili-wiling liwanag ng araw
nagbibigay-init sa buong katawan.

This is the Mother Country of ones birth. The mother

on whom the rays of the sun shine, which give strength
& warmth to the whole body.

6 Kalakip din nitoy pag-ibig sa Bayan
ang lahat ng lalong sa gunitay mahal,
mula sa masayat gasong kasanggulan
hanggang sa kataway mapasa-libingan.

With this is love of country, all which is dear to the

memory, from the happy & careless days of childhood
to the time of death.

9 Kung ang bayang itoy mapapasa-panganib

at siya ay dapat na ipagtangkilik,

ang anak, asawa, magulang, kapatid,
isang tawag niyay tatalikdang pilit.

If this country is in danger and needs defending,

forsaken are the children, wife, parents, and siblings
at the countrys beck and call.

10 Hayo na nga, hayo, kayong nangabuhay

sa pag-asang lubos ng kaginhawahan,

at walang tinamo kundi kapaitan,
hayo nat ibangon ang naabang bayan.

Go, you who have lived, in the hope of comfort, and

who have received bitterness. Go and love the
oppressed country.

11 Kayong nalagasan ng bungat bulaklak

ng kahoy ng buhay na nilantat sukat

ng bala-balakis makapal na hirap,
muling manariwat sa bayay lumiyag.

You, who have lost the fruit & flowers of the tree of
your life by sorrows and sufferings, revive once more
and love your country.

12 Ipahandog-handog ang buong pag-ibig

at hanggang may dugoy ubusing itigis,

kung sa pagtatanggol, buhay ay mapatid,
itoy kapalaranat tunay na langit.

Dedicate all your love, offer until the last drop of your
blood. If for the defense of your country you have
given your life, this is fate and true glory.
