“Zumba Fest 2016: Upholding Health and Wellness to Espouse Fitness”

October 28, 2016- Cagayan de Oro National High School – Senior High School initiated a momentous
inter-class zumba event which was a culminating activity in physical education and health 11 at exactly
1:00 p.m. in the CDONHS multi-purpose covered court.

The contest was prepared by Mr. Urbano and Ms. Abdala, physical education senior high teachers.
There were 9 participating teams coming from the different academic and technical vocational track. In
the academic track, 3 teams are from Accountancy, Business and Management (ABM) Strand, 1 team
also from General Academic Strand (GAS) and 1 participating class in the strand of Humanities and Social
Science (HUMSS). In the technical- vocational track, a total of 4 teams are competing which was 2 teams
are from Information and Communications Technology (ICT), 1 from Housekeeping Strand and 1 from the
strand of Cookery. The performance was extensively prepared for almost a month by each teams or
class.

The competition aims to promote health and wellness among students. The contribution of
zumba dancing is exceedingly significant not just physically but also mentally and socially. The physical
contribution of zumba dancing is trough sweating which is actually a healthy way of releasing toxins in
the body while in the mental aspects, each students will gain mental alertness considering that they
have to cope up in different steps. The sense of belonging and camaraderie among participating class
belongs to social gain of the said event.

The competition was judge by the 4 outstanding judges coming from their different field of
expertise who came in the school to witness the skill of the students. The first 2 judges are professional
individual and currently working in Sacred Heart of Jesus Montessori School and they were Ms. Zedda p.
Lustre, a licensed teacher who was appointed as a MAPEH coordinator and Ms. Miriam Y. Abao, a
licensed librarian. The other 2 judges are both students, zumba enthusiast and performers coming from
different schools namely Ms. Kimberly Petite p. Sevilla from Mindanao University of Science and
Technology and Ms. Krayla Petite P. Sevilla from Lourdes College. They were the best people in the field
they chose.
Performances formally started after the introduction of judges where the ABM Block A was the
first performer up to the last team who is the Housekeeping class. Each class gave their best just to
execute the stepping well and eventually each group performance was dynamic and excellent. Awarding
was done after the last performer which is from housekeeping. There were 3 minor awards: Best in
Musical Editing, Best in Costume and The Most United group, and 3 major awards: 2nd runner-up, !st
runner- up and Champion. Each winning group will receive a trophy and a certificate. In the minor
awards, Best in Musical Editing goes to Cookery class, Best in Costume belongs to the HUMSS class and
the Most United Group goes to Gas Block B. The most awaited part was the proclamation of winners in
the major awards. ICT Block B got the 2nd runner- up, 1st runner- up goes to the HUMSS class and the
Champion of the Interclass Zumba Fest 2016 was the class of Cookery under the advisory of Mrs. Saring.

The event ended with a closing remarks which is headed by Mr. Earl Urbano and followed by
pictorials. After all the hardships and efforts done individually by the students and teachers, things
became worth-it and relieving for the reason that the competition ceased successfully.
