Admittedly, I still give out a small yelp of excitement whenever I read this…

I was even sleeping at 2 A.M. when my client messaged me that her post
reached 400 likes.
It was ​Julia Xu​ who messaged me. They call him ​“The Excel Gal”​ because
of her expertise in financial modeling.

As a former chief of staff of Alibaba and Disney’s financial model builder,


she pursued her interest into financial consulting.

She just launched her own consulting brand which caters to 10 clients
around the globe.

And I proudly tell everyone this was an account I grew that gained 1150
followers in 30 days without even spending a dime on ads. The best part--
each post reaches an average of 1429 users.
So allow me keep this grin on my face as I write this and tell you exactly
what happened.

And to start off, let me re-introduce…


THE CUSTOMER
Julia Xu​ is a well-accomplished business consultant, to say the least. She
is also an expert financial model builder.

And she just decided to launch her personal brand account for her own
consulting company with the Instagram handle ​@juliaxuconsulting.​

She wanted to put her personal consulting brand out there to network with
prospects and appear as a leader in the industry using social media.

The objective was to have a platform where female entrepreneurs can be


empowered with tips and advice, while at the same time, discover what
Julia does as a business consultant

Prior to this, Julia had her personal account with a whopping 4,000
followers.

While her audience was engaged in personal account, they were not
targetted to female entrepreneurs at all.

So in the process, she found herself faced with…

THE CHALLENGE
“The biggest pain is I don’t have time. I don’t really have strategies or
anything right now. It’s all been just random personal posts.
However I just started my own consulting company and I want to
create a new account @juliaxuconsulting that focuses on female
entrepreneurship and advice.”

After three months of launching her consulting account, she almost had
everything established for her consulting company....

Well, everything but an established Instagram page for her personal brand
where professionals can easily network with her.

Now, while she can surely build her consulting brand herself, ​the biggest
challenge was actually growing it​.

She’s pressed for time… She really didn’t have the luxury of it because
she’s jam-packed with client work.

So this prompted her to seek professional help.

But here’s the thing…

This girl is already a lifestyle influencer herself. She does social media
really well, and given this fact, she’s more choosy about who they’d want to
manage the account for her.

So how did I get in this project?

THE JOURNEY

It was a quick one, actually ​(given their time constraints).​

So going straight to it…

Julia messaged me on Instagram how much I charged for social media


engagement.
And as part of her screening process, we agreed to hop on a call for the
strategy that I can do for her.

Then it happened…

THE DISCOVERY

Oh yes! Out of the social media specialists she chatted with, I came on top.
My social media strategy demonstrated I had the background to actually
pull this off and was a few steps ahead from the others.

It was a proud moment, indeed.

(** Eyes closed, chin up, takes a deep breath and proudly shakes head **)

But after this, I understood I now had the responsibility to grow the personal
brand of, arguably, one of the best business consultants in the financial
industry. And to top this off, I only had one month to grow the account to its
highest potential.

So how did it go?

THE IMPLEMENTATION

Julia and I had our kick-off call Friday evening detailing how she wants her
social media to grow and who her target market is. I clarified things during
the call as well as asked questions to make sure I have what I need to write
the letter.

And then given a ​one month​ deadline for a thousand followers for her
personal account @julialxu​.

So I gathered what I needed, came up with a few big ideas for the account,
got one strategy approved then started implementing it.

By night time, I tested the strategy itself then I asked her about the
progress to see how it turned out.
… the strategy was commenting on 30 accounts, while liking three photos
of 30 different accounts daily.

However, come Sunday afternoon, I was on another call with Julia and she
asked what’s equivalent to a social media manager’s nightmare…

AN ACTION BLOCK.

And to make things worse, the action block was dated until a week later.

I tried covering up my ears but was too late.

But what can I do? I figured it would be best for me to do as she says
because after all, this woman knows what she’s doing.

So I did as requested, put my head back down and waited for the block to
be lifted.

But Julia thought about her consulting account which only had 72 followers.
She let me handle her consulting account instead of her blocked personal
account with 4,000 followers.

This time, despite having 0 engagements with the consulting account that I
now handle @juliaxuconsulting,

I limited my actions in the account just to avoid the block.

I left a maximum of 5 comments, 20 likes, and 20 follows per hour.

The users I interacted with were followers from female entrepreneur


accounts like @femalefoundercollective and @bossbabe.inc

I turned my post notifications on for those accounts so I’ll get notified when
they post a photo. And when they just posted a photo, I check the users
who like their most recent post, and follow them, or like three of their
photos.

It was such an effective strategy that on one day of implementing it, we got
these results: 210 visits in one day.
But as we moved forward, we realized…

I couldn’t keep up with the demand of raising it to 400 likes all the time.​

And I had to make a decision to either abandon the project to give them
more time knowing they should be able to pull this off without my help or…

Just keep at it and deliver as promised.

Thing is…

I was already struggling delivering such a high engagement of 400 likes per
post.
So what did I do?

I did just that… The Impossible.

I immediately told her I’m trying to reach it.

… even if it meant losing precious hours.

Thankfully, she obliged.

So, with the words “Yes, I can” in my mind, I continued engaging with
accounts. I also found a female entrepreneur engagement group on
Facebook who helped me reach targets.

And, by some miracle, was able to get them the post to 397 likes.

FROM HERE, I DISCOVERED ANOTHER BREAKTHROUGH.

With the help of asking likes from engagement groups the first hour you
post it, it immediately boosts the post in hashtags. Which increased our
visibility where 89% were users out of our followers’ circle and 2,457 out
2,884 users are from HASHTAGS.
This is the specific hashtag strategy that we used where we combined 30
hashtags with the following breakdown:
For the following posts, I kept doing the same strategy of…

using our hashtag strategy, commenting on 30 posts from hashtags, liking


3 photos from 30 targeted accounts, following users from competitor
brands, and asking help from engagement groups to boost visibility

And I did it! The account grew at 439 followers in a week!

THE RESULTS
Getting traction with one of our first posts.

Getting a lead and a conversion for my client because of Instagram


marketing.
Here are the numbers from the first launch:

● She got ​853 profile views​ in a week.

● She converted a lead that found her on Instagram.

Anyways, there you have it.

What did you think about it?

Impressive? Meh?

Look…

To be honest, whatever it is you thought, I really don’t care.

But what I ​do​ care about is bringing the same results for your business.
