Definition

Describing process or we usually call a procedure text is a type of text that contains a goal and
steps to create or do something related to that goal. The function of this text is to show how to do
something through successive steps so that the reader can achieve his goal.

Describing process features:

1. Use Simple Present Tense.

2. Use an imperative sentence which is a sentence usually used to give orders. Example: don’t mix,
turn on, cut into slices.

3. Use connective of sequence (ex : then, while, next).

4. Use numbering (ex: first, second, third).

5. Use action verb. Example (ex : turn, plug, put, etc.).

6 Use adverb. Example : slowly, carefully.

II. Continuing

- Then .....

- After this ...... (infinitive without to)

- Following this.....

- When (this done)/(you’ve done this) ...

- While (something else is happening) ...

Generic Structure of describing process

1. Aim / goal

Located in the title text and is used to indicate the purpose of the text.

Example: How to Make Noodle

2.Ingredients / materials

Contains the materials or tools required in the steps of carrying out the process.

Example: The materials to make an omelet are egg, onion, vegetable oil, salt, and pepper.

3.Steps / methods

Contains ways, methods, or steps taken to achieve the goals in the text.

Example

How to Make Kolak

ingredients:

500gr bananas

2cups thick coconut milk

90gr brown sugar

2cups water

Ladle

steps:

1.first,pell the bananas and cut them into small cirde

2.second, boil in 2 glass water for 10 minutes

3.third,in other saucepan simmer the coconut milk with a pinch of salt and brown sugar stir and
becareful that the coconut milk doesn't quite come to the boil

4.after that,when the sugar is dissolved, put in the bananas and continve to simmer for about 10 to
16 minutes,until bananas are cooked

5.finally,it can be served in hot
