7 LEARNING TASK

ON TEACHING STRATEGIES

INTEGRATIVE LEARNING
Integrative learning helps the students make connections and relevance between and
among subjects. It allows the learners to engage in purposeful, relevant learning. It encourages
the learners to see the interconnectedness and interrelationships between the curriculum areas
rather than focusing in isolated curriculum areas.
According to Pigdon and Woolley (1992) in an integrated curriculum, all activities
contain opportunities for learners to learn more about content through purposeful activities.

HIGHER-ORDER THINKING SKILLS

Higher order thinking skills known also as HOTS imply that some types of learning
require higher cognitive processes than others. Skills in analyzing, evaluating, and creating are
thoughts of higher order than learning facts or concepts.

VERBAL AND NON-VERBAL COMMUNICATION
Verbal communication is the use of words in expressing one’s feelings and ideas.
Non-verbal communication includes the use of body language, gesture, facial
expressions, eye contact, and posture.
The use of verbal and non-verbal communication strategies is the first step in enhancing
communication and nurturing relationships which are vital in the teaching-learning process.
Strong communication skills are very important in the instructional process.

Listen to hear your students, not just to
respond and give an answer. Sometimes just
lending an ear can be extremely useful in
promoting a supportive and caring
ACTIVE LISTENING environment. Other times, students have a
question about homework or need some
clarification about a topic that has been
discussed where an answer is needed.
Listening to your students enables you to
provide better assistance and consequently a
better education.

Doing more team activities, and group work
is a great way to take the focus off competing
with one another and concentrate more on
TEAM WORK working together to get the best results. It
can encourage communication, cooperation
and collaboration and help students talk
more and effectively express themselves with
their peers. Something that is transferable
across all aspects of life and particularly
important in their future working lives.

Create a safe and supportive environment

where students feel comfortable to open up
and express their thoughts and ideas. An
CREATE A SAFE ENVIRONMENT atmosphere that allows students to ask if
they need help is crucial to their academic
success. It is important that at all stages of
the teaching process that you nurture this
kind of non-judgemental environment. By
having an open door policy and allowing
students to pop in and talk about anything
that may occur is a great way to promote
good communication. Giving students extra
support, tuition or explanations before and
after class helps shy students that don’t feel
comfortable in class to ask questions to learn.

“Writing my First Lesson Plan”

8|Pre-Service Teaching learning Tasks

On my first writing a lesson plan, It should be Specific ,Measurable,
Attainable, Realistic, and time bound or smart. One thing more into this age of
globalization where everything steps up into a higher level, we should adapt into
these changes, we should make our lesson plan student-centered so that we can
engage our students more in the teaching-learning process. The more they are
involved, the greater the probability of higher learning and the longer it will retain.
I realized also that making lesson plan is important because this serves as a guide
towards targeting your goals. It is the road-map intended for achieving lessons
objectives with careful planning, you are assured of an effective procedure and a
complete coverage of the subject that you aim to teach. Creating a good lesson plan
format gets easier the more you do it. It might start off seeming like an intimidating
feat, but if you’re consistent after a while, you find your rhythm. The most
important part of the process is to always be considering the needs of your class,
and that includes you as a teacher. Creativity in lesson planning is important, but
stay mindful of your budget and time restrictions, and don’t overextend yourself.
