8 Course Description This is a three-unit course that develops nursing students’
communicative competence and enhances their cultural and
intercultural awareness through multimodal tasks that
provide them opportunities for communicating effectively
and appropriately to a multicultural audience in a local or
global context. The course equips nursing students with tools
for critical evaluation of a variety of texts and focuses on the
power of language and the impact of images to emphasize the
importance of conveying messages responsibly. The
knowledge, skills, and insights that students gain from this
course may help them in their other academic endeavors, their
chosen disciplines, and their nursing career as they compose
and produce relevant oral and written audio-visual and/or
web-based output for various purposes.
9 Course Learning At the end of the course, the BS Nursing students are
Outcomes expected to:
1. exhibit knowledge on the nature, elements and functions
of verbal and non-verbal communication in various and
multicultural contexts;
2. evaluate multimodal texts critically to enhance receptive
(listening, viewing, and reading) skills;

3. convey ideas through oral, audio-visual, and web-based


presentations for different target audiences in local and
global settings using appropriate registers;
4. present academic papers using appropriate tone, style,
conventions, and reference styles; and
5. adopt cultural and intercultural awareness and sensitivity
in communicating ideas.
10 Learners' Profile and The EDUCATION students enrolled in this course are freshmen
Context from various cities and provinces in the Philippines and from
other Asian countries. With the CHED Advisory No. 7, Higher
Education Institutions are not to have residential mode of
instruction until August 31, 2020. Further, the Enhanced
Community Quarantine (ECQ), Modified Enhanced
Community Quarantine (MECQ), General Community
Quarantine (GCQ), or Modified General Community
Quarantine (MGCQ) situations of Baguio City and of the
different cities and provinces where our students reside will
restrict the students to physically attend their classes. The
students, however, may still have an access to an internet cafe
for their electronic and internet-based activities.
11 Assessment and GPCOM has formative and summative assessment activities
Evaluation Details that will be administered in two modes:
a. via printed and recorded materials that will be sent
through express mail services and
b. via Google Classroom and other applications in the
Google Suite.
To evaluate the learning competencies that entail
demonstration, PowerPoint presentations, Pecha Kucha, or
video presentations will be required.
12 Monitoring Details Students without internet connection but with computers or
laptops at home will be monitored through:
a. printed modules that are scheduled to be sent to them and
to be submitted back as scheduled,
b. telephone calls, short message services (SMS), or FB Group
chat at least once a week.
c. video recording using their smart phones that will
showcase the step-by-step development of their project and
they present these guided by the Pecha Kucha activity.

Students with internet connection will be monitored through


the SLU student portal and through their participation in the
Google Classroom Discussion Forum and online activities.
13 Technological The delivery of the course will require the use of the SLU
Support subscribed Google Suite, SLU E-Learning Resources, and SLU
Student Portal. It will also require the use of one 16GB USB or
memory stick that will be used to send the printed module and
recorded materials for the students without internet
connections. The same memory sticks will be used by the
students to send back their outputs.
14 Course Budget The cost that will be included in the regular fees of the
students will be the cost of the following materials included
in the content and delivery of the DL learning packets:
