Shirley’s back!
Shirley Ann Turner is back,
pictured here at the Glasgow
Evangelical Church, sewing and
crafting with some fabric from
Africa. According to Shirley’s
Snapshot, the few weeks and
months have been “a bit of a
blur” as there have been a lot
of changes in her missionary.
She completed the 18 month
journey through the International
Leadership Coaching Academy in August, and on October 1st she joined
the Catalytic Area as the Area Training Officer. If you’d like to hear about
her fascinating life across the pond and her job of making disciples, she
will be sharing her experiences at the Glasgow Evangelical Church
on Saturday, October 16th beginning at 10:00 a.m. You can join in
person or watch online at the GEC FACEBOOK PAGE. Shirley will also
give a presentation at the Grace Lutheran Church in Nashua on
Saturday, October 23rd at 9:30 a.m. On November 24, she will
fly to start over in a new city in Zambia — Ndola — where she
looks forward to having an opportunity to make connections with
a community of refugees and reaching out to surrounding villages
where the main belief system is not Christian. Shirley will also have
the opportunity to work with a group of children at a local after-school
program at the OM base, Isubilo — which translates to HOPE!

Monoclonal Antibodies
for Treatment of COVID-19

What are monoclonal antibodies?

Monoclonal antibodies, or mAbs, are a laboratory
produced protein that functions like the antibodies
made by the immune system in response to infection.
By binding to a specific molecule on a virus or
bacteria, known as an antigen, a monoclonal
antibody can enhance or restore the immune response
against these pathogens. Monoclonal antibody
treatment has been used and tested for the Ebola virus
and RSV, as well as chronic illnesses such as
rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, inflammatory
bowel disease, and more. The FDA has issued an
Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) to allow the use
of monoclonal antibody therapies for the treatment of
mild to moderate COVID-19 in certain high-risk
patients. This treatment is not a substitute for vaccina-
tion against COVID-19.

Who is eligible for monoclonal antibody treatment?

Adults considered at high-risk for severe COVID-19 and high-risk youth ages 12-17 who weigh at
least 88 pounds may be eligible for treatment. Individuals who have recently tested positive for
COVID-19 and have had symptoms for 10 days or less can schedule a consult to see if monoclonal
antibody treatment is right for them. Call FMDH at 228-3509 to schedule a consult.

Are monoclonal antibodies safe?

In most cases, the benefits of treatment outweigh any potential risks. While extremely rare, some severe
allergic reactions have been reported with the use of monoclonal antibodies. Some side effects of mAbs
include but are not limited to: allergic reactions, flu-like symptoms, nausea and vomiting, diarrhea, and
low blood pressure.

How are monoclonal antibodies administered?

mAbs are given through intravenous infusion (i.e., through a vein) or injection.

To schedule a consult to see if

you are eligible for monoclonal
antibody therapy call:
