Pioneers Gone
But Not Forgotten
Memories of Valley County
Anyone who knows Dorothy
Eayrs will tell you she has always
been an extremely ambitious woman.
She inherited this work ethic from
her parents, Wib and Sue Dolson.
Hot off the press is a book Dorothy
had published. This collection of
stories written and compiled by her
Mom and Dad during the 1960s & 70s
is absolutely incredible!
Wib and Sue spent uncountable
hours interviewing and tape
recording old-timers, friends and
acquaintances for this compilation.
Many were homesteaders — stories
from the last century by those who
were here first and lived through
the hard times and good times,
telling it the way it was. Some of the
histories were written by descendants
themselves of the hearty, persevering
pioneers and sent to Wib & Sue.
Cowboy vs. Rattlesnake, a poem
written by Harry “Rattlesnake” Skyes
is a must read!
With the help of her daughters, Tracie, Colleen and Kristi, and Get your books from the Valley
granddaughter Paige, Dorothy Dolson Eayrs was able to preserve County Pioneer Museum or at Mary’s
precious portions of Valley County history, ultimately having a book Mercantile on Front Street. Maybe
published to preserve these days of old for generations to come. your ancestors are in it.

With the exception of the morning stock market
news, we just can’t watch TV news anymore. Maybe
it’s not their fault that news programs have become so
sensational and such one-sided opinion pieces rather
than an hour of news stories. They try to get ratings and
have the need to fill huge time slots with something.
The fault really falls back on the public. We heard
it best the other day, “The public wants drama . . . more
than they want the truth.” That pretty much sums it all
up for so many in this country today. ~ Burl Bowler,
