In an article by Randell Tiongson on financial literacy 2019, he said that most people think they
know money, but the truth is they don’t. According to him, what we call money is only a representative
of money. In the article, money is defined as a commodity accepted by general consent as a medium
of economic change. It is the medium in which prices and values are expressed: as currency, it
circulates anonymously from person to person and country to country that facilitates financial trading
and is the principal measure of wealth.

The key to living a healthy financial life is to practice financial responsibility. It is essential to
being financially responsible to live within your means and not spending more than you earned.
The order of events, or chronology is use in chronological sequence that is used to inform
readers about events or content. Such events may be organized by time or date, by way of arranging
events as a series of steps or through following a list-like structure. Chronological sequencing is
frequently used in nonfiction writings such as presenting history. In nonfiction or fact-based, there are
generally obvious time indicators like dates or times of day to show a clear timeline.
While in fiction, the text is arranged in time-order sequence using signals or markers. A
sequence structure can be identified using signal words like before, after and next.
Other commonly used signal words to indicate time-order (sequence) are after, afterwards, at
last that time, before, during, finally, first, at the same time, soon, immediately, presently, later,
eventually, following, first of all, further, initially, in the first-place, next, meantime, lastly, suddenly, in
that moment, today, in that instant, soon after then, to begin with not long after, and last.
Here is an example of a timeline. You can use this timeline
graphic organizer to order the events in a story you read. By doing
this, you will be able to list down major or significant events in the
story which will help you in organizing information in preparation for
writing, reporting, and similar academic tasks.
Timelines helps track events in a sequence in a graphical
manner and make information easy to locate.

The Ant and the Grasshopper

Once there lived an ant and a grasshopper in a grassy meadow.

All day long the ant would work hard, collecting grains of wheat from the farmer’s field
far away. She would hurry to the field every morning, as soon as it was light enough to see
by, and toil back with a heavy grain of wheat balanced on her head.

She would put the grain of wheat carefully away in her larder, and then hurry
back to the field for another one. All day long she would work, without stop or rest, scurrying
back and forth from the field, collecting the grains of wheat and storing them carefully in her
larder.

The grasshopper would look at her and laugh. ‘Why do you work so hard, dear ant?’ he
would say. ‘Come, rest awhile, listen to my song. Summer is here, the days are long and
bright. Why waste the sunshine in labour and toil?’

The ant would ignore him, and head bent, would just hurry to the field a little faster.
This would make the grasshopper laugh even louder. ‘What a silly little ant you are!’ he
would call after her. ‘Come, come and dance with me! Forget about work! Enjoy the summer!
Live a little!’ And the grasshopper would hop away across the meadow, singing and dancing
merrily.

Summer faded into autumn, and autumn turned into winter. The sun was hardly seen,
and the days were short and grey, the nights long and dark. It became freezing cold, and
snow began to fall.

The grasshopper didn’t feel like singing any more. He was cold and hungry. He had
nowhere to shelter from the snow, and nothing to eat. The meadow and the farmer’s field
were covered in snow, and there was no food to be had. ‘Oh what shall I do? Where shall I
go?’ wailed the grasshopper.

Suddenly he remembered the ant. ‘Ah – I shall go to the ant and ask her for food and
shelter!’ declared the grasshopper, perking up. So off he went to the ant’s house and knocked
at her door. ‘Hello ant!’ he cried cheerfully. ‘Here I am, to sing for you, as I warm myself by
your fire, while you get me some food from that larder of yours!’

The ant looked at the grasshopper and said, ‘All summer long I worked hard while you
made fun of me, and sang and danced. You should have thought of winter then! Find
somewhere else to sing, grasshopper! There is no warmth or food for you here!’ And the ant
shut the door in the grasshopper’s face.It is wise to worry about tomorrow today.

Practical tips to keep a conversation going
1. Ask appropriate questions. You can appear interested simply by asking questions.
2. Be a good listener. Listen and find out what the other person’s point of view.
3. Maintain eye contact. Be interested in the conversation.
4. Find common ground. Refrain from giving a one-word answer.
Following and giving instructions for a specific purpose and audience
Imperative sentences are sentences that give command or request. Giving instructions are
examples of imperative sentences. There are two kinds of imperative sentences, the affirmative or the
positive sentences and the negative sentences.
AFFIRMATIVE NEGATIVE
Turn off the lights. Do not turn off the computer.
Maintain your good grades. Don’t close the windows.
Write your answers legibly. Don’t copy the directions.
Wash your hands regularly. Do not touch your face.
Negative imperative sentences are formed by using the words do not or don’t.

Activity Title : Techniques in Separating Mixtures

The technique of separating mixtures in the above set-up is called decantation. It
involves two processes: settling and pouring. You will notice that this process can be
used in separating solid-liquid and liquid-liquid components ofa mixture.

In set-up A, the mixture is a combination of solid and liquid components. In the rice
granules and water mixture, the insoluble (undissolved) palay grains which has heavier
particles, will settle at the bottom of the beakerwhile the water which is the lighter
component will float above the solid components. They will be finally separated by
pouring the liquid layer into another container. In set-up B, the mixture is a blend of
liquid-liquid components. Oil and water are examples of liquid which are immiscible
(will never combine). Water will settle down because the molecules in it are dense
(packed tightly together) and are larger than those that make up the oil.The less dense
substance which is the oil will float over the water because its particles are smaller than
the water. Generally, the liquid which are denser will settle while those that are less
dense will float. The immiscible liquid will then be finally separated by pouring the less
dense liquid layer in to another container leaving the denser component in the
container. So, when an oil and soy sauce will be accidentally mixed in a glass, think of
separating this mixture by means of decantation.

Filtration is the process of separating solid substances from a liquid with filter paper or
any cloth that can be used as a filtering medium. The residue (undissolved solid) is trapped by
a filtering medium while the filtrate (liquid) will be pass through.
Activity: TRAPPED AT THE TUNNEL
Read the situation about filtration.
In their Science class activity, a group of pupils were tasked to separate a mixture. They did the
task cooperatively. Mohalidin mixed 5 tablespoons of soil and 100 ml water in a beaker. Ben
stirred the mixture thoroughly using a stirring rod. Bai Falilah took a funnel and placed in a
filter paper inside it. Anne placed the funnel in an Erlenmeyer flask.Nénéw poured the mixture
prepared by Ben into funnel. Below is their set up.
Funnel- is a tube that is a wide at the top and narrow at the bottom, used gor guiding
liquid or powder into small opening.
Filter paper- is a porous device used for preventing impurities or solid particles.
Residue- the particles which collects in the filter paper.
Filtrate fluid- that has passed through the filter

Isang natural na bagay ang magkaroon ng problema o suliranin. Mapabata man


o matanda, lahat ng tao ay nakakaranas ng iba’t ibang klase ng problema. Ang isang
problema o suliranin ay isang bagay na mahirap harapin o intindihin. Hinahamon ng
suliranin ang isang tao na hanapin ang solusyon sa kanyang problema.
Ngunit sa kabila nito, ang bawat problema ay mayroong solusyon. Ang solusyon
ay ang lunas o kasagutan sa problema o suliranin. Kapag tayo ay nagkakaroon ng
problema, tayo ay hindi dapat mawalan ng pag-asa sa paghanap ng solusyon at
kasagutan. Ito ay upang hindi na magpatuloy pa ang mga hindi magandang epekto ng
isang problema o suliranin.
Bilang isang mag-aaral at isang kabataan, may kakayahan kang mabigyang
solusyon ang iyong mga problema. Ngunit, kinakailangan mong makinig at sumunod
sa mga patnubay ng iyong mga magulang, ng iyong mga guro at sa mga lider ng ating
komunidad. Ito ay para sa iyong ikabubuti at para sa lipunan na iyong kinabibilangan.

Sa pagbibigay ng pamagat ng isang talata ano ang dapat mong alamin muna?
Ang nararapat na alamin muna ay ang paksang diwa. Ang paksang diwa ang
nagbibigay ng ideya sa pagpili ng pamagat. Ang pangunahing diwa ang pinakabuod
ng mga pangyayari sa talata.
Halimbawa:
Hindi na mabilang ang mga kababayan nating nanguna sa larangan ng pag-awit,
pagpipinta at pag-ukit. Hinahangaan ng mga dayuhan ang mga produkto nating
gawang kamay na tulad ng binurdahan at nililok. Tunay na ang mga Pilipino ay

Ang pamagat ng talata ay “Ang Pilipino: Likas na Malikhain.” Anong salita sa


pamagat na, “Ang Pilipino: Likas na Malikhain”, ang sinimulan sa malaking titik? Tama
ka! Ang Pilipino, Likas, Malikhain. Bakit sinimulan sa malalaking titik ang mga ito? Oo,
ang mga ito ay mahahalagang salita. Ang Ang ay simula ng pamagat. Alin naman ang
hindi sinimulan sa malaking titik? Ang na ay hindi isinulat sa malaking titik, dahil hindi
ito mahalagang salita.

Si Jose Rizal ang pambansang bayani ng Pilipinas. Sumulat ng Noli Me Tangere
at El Filibusterismo na naglalarawan ng kalupitan ng mga Espanyol. Hindi
nagustuhan ng mga Espanyol ang mga isinulat niya kaya’t ikinulong siya sa Fort
Santiago at binaril sa Bagumbayan (Rizal Park o Luneta na ngayon) .
Ipinanganak si Andres Bonifacio noong ika-30 ng Nobyembre, 1863 sa
Tondo, Maynila. Siya ang nagtatag ng katipunan, isang lihim na kilusan.
Ang kanyang hangarin na mabago ang kalagayan ng mga Pilipino sa ilalim
ng kolonyalismo ang naging daan sa pagsali niya sa La Liga Filipina na
itinatag noong Hulyo 3, 1892 sa layuning pag-isahin ang mga Pilipino at maayos ang
bansa.

Sa kabila ng pagiging isang paralitiko, si Apolinario Mabini ay ang matalinong


tagapayo ni Aguinaldo noong panahon ng Digmaang Pilipino-Amerikano.
Tinagurian siyang “Utak ng Himagsikan”.

Si Heneral Emilio Aguinaldo naman ay nahirang bilang “Pangulo ng Unang


Republika ng Pilipinas” noong Enero 23,1899. Ipinagpatuloy niya ang labanan sa
Luzon sa tulong ni Heneral Gregorio del Pilar. Pumunta siya sa Palanan, Isabela
kung saan itinatag ang kaniyang himpilan. May dumating na mga Pilipinong
Iskawt sa kuta nina Aguinaldo at hindi alam ni Aguinaldo na isang palabas lang pala ang
pagpapabihag ng mga Amerikano. Ang mga Pilipinong iskawt ay kasabwat pala ng mga
Amerikano upang mabihag si Aguinaldo at hindi na siya nakatakas muli. Hinayaan siyang
manatiling buhay. Nangako siya ng katapatan sa pamahalaan ng Estados Unidos upang
magkaroon ng kapayapaan.

Si Heneral Gregorio del Pilar ay tinaguriang Bayani ng Pasong Tirad. Nang


sumiklab ang rebolusyon noong Agosto 1896, si Gregorio del Pilar ay isa sa
kabataan ng Bulacan na nagpakita ng damdaming makabayan. Noong ika-3 ng
Setyembre, 1897. Matapos ang paglagda sa Kasunduan ng Biak-na-Bato,
sinamahan niya si Heneral Aguinaldo sa Hongkong. Nang muling sumiklab ang
rebolusyon, matapos ang pagtatagumpay ni Kapitan Dewey sa Manila Bay, bumalik si Del
Pilar sa Pilipinas kasabay ni Aguinaldo at naglagay ng sarili niyang watawat sa Bulacan. Dito
ay pinalaya nila ang probinsiya sa kamay ng mga Espanyol. Makalipas ang ilang buwan,
nakidigma si Gregorio sa mga Amerikano na ayaw kumilala sa kasarinlan ng Pilipinas.
Nakipaglaban din ang kanyang mga tauhan laban sa hukbong Amerikano sa pamumuno ni
Col. Juan M. Stotsenberg malapit sa Quinga (Plaridel, Bulacan) kung saan napatay si
Stotsenberg.
Si Miguel Malvar ay huling heneral na sumuko sa mga Amerikano at naging
gobernadorcillo noong 1892. Nang ikulong ang kanyang ama sa isang walang
basehang krimen, pilit itong pinakawalan ng anak ng Katipunero. Nang
maulinigang pinaghahanap ng mga Espanyol, napilitang lumikas sa Cavite si
Malvar. Doon siya pinadala ni Heneral Emilio Aguinaldo upang mamuno sa
mga tunggalian sa Zapote, Indang, Bailen, Magallanes at Alfonso. Bilang paghanga sa
katapangan hindi ipinakulong at ipinatapon ng mga Amerikano si Miguel. Samakatuwid,
ibinigay sa kanya ang panunungkulan bilang Gobernador ng Batangas pero hindi niya ito
tinanggap.

Si Agueda Kahabagan y Iniquinto ang naatasan ni Miguel Malvar na mamuno


ng isang Fuerza ng sundalo sa Laguna. Tinatawag siyang Henerala. Siya lang
ang nag-iisang babae na kasama sa listahan ng mga henerala sa Pilipinas.

Digital Art– any art or drawing or painting made on paper and scanned and changed
in any way or photograph that are modified using a computer software or application. It
is also any artwork done or produced through a computer. The important aspects of art
such as elements, principles and processes are still applied in
Digital Art.
Commercial Art – is one type of digital art; it is an image
created for advertising or marketing purposes. It includes
advertising, graphic design, branding, logos and book illustrations. Elements applied in
commercial art are line, shape, space, color, and texture while the principles are
harmony, balance, contrast, emphasis, and pattern.

Logo is an example of commercial arts, it is a symbol or a graphic design created by
an organization to identify and represent its products, uniform, vehicles and the like. It
is a design that is used by an organization for its letterhead and advertising materials to
be easily recognized.
Elements of Art - The elements of art are the visual tools that the artist uses to
create a composition. These are line, shape, color, texture, and space.
1. Line is a mark with greater length than width. Lines can be horizontal,
vertical or diagonal, straight or curved, thick or thin.

2. Shape is a closed line. Shapes can be geometric, like squares


and circles; or organic, like free formed shapes or natural shapes.
Shapes are flat and can express length and width.
3. Space is the area between and around objects. The space around
objects is often called negative space; negative space has shape. Space
can also refer to the feeling of depth. Real space is three-dimensional; in
visual art when we can create the feeling or illusion of depth we call it
space.
4. Color is light reflected off objects. Color has three main
characteristics: hue or its name (red, green, blue, etc.), value
(how light or dark it is), and intensity (how bright or dull it is).
5. Texture is the surface quality that can be seen and felt. Textures can
be rough or smooth, soft or hard. Textures do not always feel the way they
look; for example, a drawing of a porcupine may look prickly, but if you
touch the drawing, the paper is still smooth.
Principles of Art - The principles of art represent how the artist uses the elements of
art to create an effect and to help convey the artist's intent. The principles of art and
design are harmony, balance, contrast, emphasis and pattern.
1. Harmony is the visually satisfying effect of combining similar, related elements.
2. Balance refers to the visual weight of the elements of the composition. It is a
sense that the painting feels stable and "feels right."
3. Contrast is a large difference between two things to create interest and tension.
4. Emphasis the focal point of an image, or when one area or thing stand out the
most.
5. Pattern is the uniform repetition of any of the elements of art or any combination
thereof.

Inkscape is a free and open source vector graphics editor for GNU/Linux, Windows
and MacOS X. It offers a rich set of features and is widely used for both artistic and
technical illustrations such as cartoons, clip art, logos, typography, diagramming and
flow charting.

symbol by which an organization can be easily recogn ized.

Direction:
Create a logo that would represent yourself or your family using Inkscape or any logo
creator or editor software that you are familiar with using your phone or computer.
Follow the steps to consider in designing a product or logo. Explain your logo in 2 or
more sentences. (For those learners without gadget, the subject teacher must
formulate a substitute assessment for this LAS.) Use a separate sheet of long size
bond paper for your answer.

Inkscape has clickable icons and pull-down menus. Majority of the options are found in the Menu Bar
such as File, Edit, Help, View, Layer, Path, etc. Under it is the Command Bar which contains
shortcuts, zoom levels, undo, etc. The Tool Control allows you to adjust the setting of your main tools.
At the left side, you will find the Tool Box which will give you the option to select, draw, or modify
objects.
Here are some Inkscape Icons which you will use while drawing.
 Select tool - allows you select an object to transform and drag
 Control point editing tool - allows you to control and edit an object. You can form any shape
using this tool.
 Rectangle tool - allows you to draw a rectangle.
 Text tool - allows you to draw a text.
 Ellipse tool - allows you to draw a circle.
LOGO - designing a logo can be done easily with the use of the available computer software. It
reflects a business, commercial brand through the use of shapes, fonts, colors, and images.
The following are some tips to consider in designing a product logo.
1. Think about what your product is. A logo is a visual image of what your product or brand
represents.
2. Research from books and Internet about successful logo. Study the features of these logos: choice
of color, number of colors used, line texture, and the text if any.
3. Choose your graphic design software. Use the one that you are comfortable. Watch videos in
YouTube to learn more as a beginner.
4. Make it simple and attractive one. Do not complicate the design. It should be useful to different
formats like headers, sign, and posters.

5 Elements of a Logo
Relevant - Your logo has to be relevant. It doesn’t have to be a literal representation of your business
but should have some relevance to the particular industry, as well as make it clear to potential
customers why your business is relevant to them.
Visible - Secondly, your logo needs to be visible. In a crowded marketplace it needs to make an
impact and stand out from the crowd.
Distinctive - Thirdly, your logo needs to be distinctive. If your potential customers can’t remember or
describe your logo to other potential customers, then you have a problem.
Adaptable - Fourthly your logo needs to be adaptable. Will it work as well in black and white as in
color, will it scale or is it so complicated that detail will be lost at small sizes?
Timeless - Finally, your logo needs to be timeless. It shouldn’t look out-of-date yet shouldn’t be so
trendy that it will age badly.
