V. Learning Experiences
Overview
In order to be a good draftsman, you need to learn how to measure
using the different measuring tools. You need also to be precise, accurate
and neat in all of your outputs. Measurement is important in our day-to-day
life to get the right amount of quantity we require. Exact measurement helps
in taking correct decisions. 
Lettering is used to describe, or provide detailed specifications for, an
object. With the goals of legibility and uniformity, styles are standardized and
lettering ability has little relationship to normal writing ability.

 Lettering refers to the process by which letters and
numbers are formed through writing in composition to printing through the
use of machine and devices. Lettering is considered as the written language
of industry. Generally speaking, letters are important because they help us
transmit and record ideas. They give other information which the regular
orthographic or pictorial views cannot show.

Directions: Identify the following statements. Write your answer on the space
provided.

alphabet alpha and beta.
2. It is a form of writing developed by the Egyptians.
3. It is a form of writing developed by the ancient
phonicians.

uppercase letters and letters with strokes that extend
upward.

strokes that extent downward.

stand.
18.This horizontal guideline drawn between the capline and
the base line.
19.This is the horizontal thin stroke added to the end of
thin or thick stems.
20.This is a curved line which connects the stem to the
serif.

 Measuring is a fundamental operation that every
draftsman should know. A draftsman should know how to measure and use
the different standard and specific measuring tools used in various trades.

 Good lettering is characterized by uniformity in
spacing, height, inclination, and strength of line. The use of guidelines and
slope lines will insure the uniformity in height and inclination. Weight and
color can be achieved by skillful use of the pencil and correct pressure of its
point on the paper. Through proper and constant practice, the entire above,
plus the ability to space letters correctly, can be gained.
