ACTIVITY TITLE: Essay #3
REALIZATION, INSIGHT AND LEARNINGS
How does your values affect your actions and behavior towards others?
Student’s Answer:

Since values are what a person holds as true and important to themselves, then that would reflect into
their actions because they would act based on what will cohere to their values. Meaning because of our
values, the things that we do become biased and satisfy our own selfish wants regardless of what others
might say.

If, for example, I agree that chocolate mint ice cream does not taste pleasing, then I would think that
people who like that kind of flavor as eccentric or weird, so I would usually not start a conversation with
them. Since I favor those with whom I have the same values, they are the ones I will usually talk to and
create a connection with because they will most likely work with me to respect the values that I have in
common with them. Even though a person has opposite of my values, I will still treat them with respect,
but I will still have my own opinions of them and try to understand as to why they value this and that
because there might be an experience or a reason to their values being shaped in their specific way.

The values that we have as a person dictate our actions; in my case, I become more susceptible to being
biased to the things that are in favor of my values. However biased I may be, I still believe that each
person is entitled to have their opinions and beliefs, and they shall be treated with the same amount of
respect as everyone. Respect must be given to everyone equally because each of us has been through
different kinds of experiences that shaped us to be who we are and our values.
