AN OBSERVATION GUIDE FOR THE CLASSROOM VISIT

Name of the School Observed: Bulacan Polytechnic College

School Address: Bulihan City of Malolos, Bulacan

Date of Visit: December 9, 2021

The Bulacan Polytechnic College was located at Bulihan City of Malolos, in the 1st

needs. In offices of the school was well good condition and fully air conditioned the staff,
teachers and students is very organized to their paper works. Some offices and facilities are
located in the 2nd floor such as computer laboratory, SG office, MIS office, registrar office and
etc. while the science laboratory, Basketball court, guidance counselor office, admin office and
etc., is located in the 1st floor but the other facilities and offices are located in the other buildings.
There are so many bench and table that the students can study and stay while they waiting their
next class.

Therefore, I considered it is an ideal school which gives students the scope and the spirit
of healthy learning environment.

Your Analysis

How do the school campus and the classroom in particular impact on the learning of
the students going to school? What are your conclusions?

The facilities of the school campus and the classroom greatly affect the students that go to
school, because if the school and classroom is improper the students will start to think not to go
to school.

Therefore, I conclude that if the students is not comfortable or satisfied a certain school,
he/she will get lazy and not to be on school, but if the student I comfortable or satisfied with the
facilities of a school they will be more eager to attend school.

How does this relate to your knowledge of child and adolescent development/how does this
relate to your knowledge of facilitating learning?

As a future teacher, by these instances I will know that there are many factors that can
affect the students to attend and not attend school. Then by knowing such factors, I can adjust to
what my students will need.

Your Reflections

1. Would you like to teach in the school environment you just observed? Why? Why not?

-Yes, because the school environment is very accessible, the surrounding is very peaceful and
covered by green pasture that brighten up the day and gives a cool and cozy environment.

2. What kind of school campus is conducive to learning?

-A school that is conducive to learning is a school that complete facilities that will surely and
benefited by the student learners to understand the subject matter they are studying.

3. What kind of classroom is conducive to learning?

-A classroom that is conducive to learning is a classroom with proper chair, functioning electric
fans for ease of the students, all others facilities will greatly contribute for the attainment of the
knowledge of the students and especially an expert teacher by profession and by heart.

4. In the future, how can you accomplish your answer in number 3?

- For now, I will study hard so that I can be a good teacher in the future. If I have a good grade
and right experience, I have no doubts that I can accomplish to become a compassionate teacher
by mind, heart and soul.

5. Write your additional learning’s and insights here.

-I learned that every student has their own reaction to the environment that they are in, that’s
why the teachers should complex and flexible to know that.

The pictures above are some facilities in Bulacan Polytechnic College. All building is
painted and the color of this is green that looks pleasant to our eyes. The surrounding is clean,
with green plants and trees and spacious. Talking about the arc of the BPC this is the first
entrance when you are going to BPC. Then as you can the building of BTVTED are clean with
green tress and plants.

Then before you go the second entrance you can see the clinic. Talking about the bulletin
board are posted all announcement and activities in the campus then it is near at entrance. Next is
the guidance office it has a good color and have aircon inside. The PBC had pleasant views that
bring us a comfortable vibe and nature ambiance because of the green color paint matching the
surrounding with green plants and trees. As we walk the pathways in BPC the cleanliness and
well maintain surroundings will catch our attention. Talking about facilities the HRS laboratory
well organized and sufficient equipment including kitchen wares. It has a white paint and
spacious that good for 30 students and having 6 light bulbs. Just standby the library if you have
assignment or information that you needed to your study because we can freely to access the
library all the time and as we can see the library was fully air conditioned, lots of old and new
books, magazine, had 3 computers, 5 ceiling fan, 2 table for teachers staff, 6 light bulb, baggage
for students things and having lots of long table with plain white color that made of wood,
yellow chairs that made of plastic and this place is free from distraction like noises. Some
activities in school were usually held in covered court including the performance in PE because
this place had necessities for sport both side of this area had basketball ring and the front had
mini stage with 6 ceiling electric fan. It is also spacious, clean, and safe from hazard and well
maintained

Therefore, a positive classroom environment, safe and secured helps improve attention,
reduce anxiety, and support emotional behavioral regulation of the students. A factors that helps
cure many school woes and encourage the student to attend class.

Time: 11:30 – 1:00 PM

Venue: Virtual class (Bulacan Polytechnic College)

College Teacher: Mr. Edwardson, Taguinod

The students that I observed were from HRS 1-B. HRS 1-B are willing to participate to
their teacher. They are responsive, listening well, I can see that they are always interest to their
topics and follow the instruction carefully. Then Mr. Taguinod ask some question about what the
students learned, and get an idea from his students.

Due to pandemic all schools apply asynchronous and synchronous, which conducting
online class of BPC promotes this platform we’re virtual class is convenient to used now. As I
observe the teacher usually giving a task sheet and quizzes from BPC e learning. Every time that
they finished the discussion Sir Taguinod tell them to take a quiz with a limit of time.

Therefore, I conclude that all learners are listening and have an interest to their subjects.
They willing to attend online class and enjoy it. I can see that they are all confident to give an
idea and handle their self and absorbing the learning from their teachers.

My Reflection

I observed that the learners have a different attitude, character, perspective and depend on
their environment. The teacher that I observed has different strategy, method and approach
especially in this time of pandemic. The teacher has a technique to catch the attention of their
student and sometimes Sir Taguinod give some funny jokes to their student to become alive the
class. During the time of class, I observed that has some destruction like the students
accidentally open their cam and it makes noise while the teacher was discussing the topic.

Therefore, as a future teacher I learned how to get the attention of the student and interest in
the topics, I get some techniques and strategy like give some joke to avoid laziness of the student
for listening in your class because it makes class become alive and active. I will apply it all that I
have learned from this observation, to become a better teacher for the students that have a big
dream in their life and also to be part of their life that have a good impact to become productive
students or as a person.

Your Analysis
Write the most salient developmental characteristics of the learners you observed. Based on
these characteristics, think of implications for the teacher.

- I remembered on my own experiences, I see myself from them like participating in class and
cooperate with their perspective group.

2. Think of a teacher you cannot forget for positive or negative reasons. How did she/he help you

with your needs (physical, emotional, social, cognitive)? How did it affect you?

-I think that all of my teacher since before that I will never forget because all of them give their
best for their students to learned. They inspire me to become a teacher. They are my second

3. Which is your favorite theory of development? How can this guide you as a future teacher?

-My favorite theory of development is the social theory wherein I observed how the child
interacts with their teacher during online class. This can guide me as a future teacher is by letting
known that each child has his/her own approach to be given.
4. Share your other insights here.

-I learned that there are many factors to affect or contribute to the development of a child. From

An Observation Guide for the Learners’ Characteristics

Read the following statements carefully. Then write your observation report on the provided
space.
1. As you observe the class, look into the characteristics of the learners. Note their ages.
2. How many boys are there? How many girls?
3. Focus on their behavior. Are they already able to manage their own behavior?
4. Can the learners already work independently?
5. Describe their span of attention.
6. Look into their listening skills and ability to concentrate.
Bulacan Polytechnic College
Bulihan, City of Malolos
Date: November 25, 2021

As I observed the HRS students and Senior high school students I found out their
different characteristics; some students are listening, really focusing to the discussion. Some are
chatting in a box to participate on the discussion when the teacher asked a question to them and
some open their microphone to answer it. The number of the learners that I observed from senior
high is 32 and 35 from HRS 1B and totaled of 67 learners. As I observed the different
characteristics, they portray I noticed that even if is hard to listening while you are on your own
house that has many destructions but still, they are trying to focus and listen to their teacher. The
learners can already understand and pick up about the topic. They are very appreciative with
their achievements especially when being praised. Most of them, they like the feeling that their
opinions and answers are important and valid. Intellectual Development they are not afraid to ask
their teacher and independent to access sites like Google, e-learning system and YouTube where
their curiosity and questions will answer example they like to visit in dictionary, Google and
YouTube to search the unfamiliar words and watching some educational videos that related to
their lesson. All of them having two or more languages others students try to speak English in
explaining their ideas and most of them speaking vernaculars where they feel comfortable to
used.

An Observation Guide for the CLASSROOM VISIT

Be guided by these questions as you do your observation of the classroom management. It is also
good to ask the teacher for additional information so you can verify your observation. Write your
notes below; and then organize your data in the table that follows.

1. Are there areas in the classroom for specific purposes (storage of teaching aids, books,

students’ belongings, supplies, etc.?

2. Are there rules and procedures posted in the room?

3. Did the students participate in making the classroom rules?

4. What are the daily routines done by the teacher? (prayer, attendance, assignment of monitors,

warm-up activities, etc.) How are they done?

5. Is there a seating arrangement? What is the basis of this arrangement?

6. Observe the noise level in the classroom. How is this managed?

7. If a learner is not following instructions or is off-task, what does the teacher do? (behavior

strategies)

8. What does the teacher do to reinforce positive behaviors? (behavior strategies)

Observation notes:

As I observed the classroom, I noticed the different quotes that inspire the students. There
are rules and regulation that are posted in classroom that the student needs to obey. Then the
daily routines include a prayer before and after class, checking attendance, recall the previous
lesson; giving some motivation that make them energize and start the discussion. Before the end
the discussion the professor asked them feedback and clarification about the lesson and giving
them some activities and assignments. I observed that the learners follow the rules and etiquettes
like wearing uniform attending class on time, and etc.

The classroom that well organized which helps to decrease unwanted behavior. Proper room
arrangement provides predictably, which is essential for students because they thrive when they
are in a comfortable learning environment. It also gives student daily routine for you class and
helps them manage their learning better.

Your Analysis

1. How did the classroom organization and routines affect the learners’ behavior?

-The classroom organization and routines affect the learner’s behavior by knowing their
limitation. The minds of the students are set that they rule to be followed because of this they
will practice their proper attitude and act politely.

2. What should the teacher have in mind when he/she designs the classroom organization and

routines? What theories and principles should you have in mind?

-The teacher should have in mind that he or she mingles with students so that they will be more
careful while making the set of routines, they should make it to a point that the students are
oriented and they participate while making rules. Then also the teacher should prepare ice
breakers so that student will not get bore and will retain the interest in studying.

3. Which behavior strategies were effective in managing the behavior of the learners? In
motivating students? Why were they effective?

Behavior strategies effective in managing the behavior of the learners are by doing positive
reinforcement. The teacher should play the characteristics of being caring and should motivate
the learners to pursue their efforts in their study by giving rewards or incentives if the students
perform excellence.
Your Reflections

1. Imagine yourself organizing your classroom in the future. In what grade/year level do you see

yourself? What routines and procedures would you consider for this level? Why?

As I imagine myself organizing my classroom in the future, I see that I will handling senior high
students. If I want to handle senior high students, I will do routines or procedure that will suit
their age. I also conduct ice breakers and motivate them to listen and studying very well.

2. Make a list of the rules you are likely to implement in this level. Why would you choose these
rules?

-Uniform of the students should be worn properly. The students should raise their hands if they
want to say something. Respect your teachers and your classmates. Maintained the cleanliness.
Always followed the rules.

I choose these set of rules so that the students will observe cleanliness, and being orderly so that
the students will be able to be responsible. I would like also to promote unity inside the
classroom and good relationship between myself and students.

3. Should learners be involved in making the class rules? Why?

-Yes, for main reason that they will be the one who will benefited and follow these set of rules.
Then also they should be aware of these rules that they will know their limitation.

Activity form provided for you to document
Read the following carefully before you begin to observe. Then write your observation report on
the space provided on the next page.
1. Find out the number of students. Gather data as to their ages, gender, racial groups, religious
and ethnic backgrounds.

During the class:

1. How much interaction is there in the classroom? Describe how the students interact with one
another and with the teacher. Are there groups that interact more with the teacher than others.
2. Observe the learners seated at the back and the front part of the room. Do they behave and
interact differently?
3. Describe the relationship among the learners. Do the learners cooperate with or compete
against each other?
4. Which students participate actively? Which students ask for most help?
5. When a student is called and cannot answer the teacher’s question, do the classmates try to
help him? Or do they raise their hands so that the teacher will call them instead?

Other side class:

1. How do the students group themselves outside the class? Homogenously, by age? by
gender? by racial or ethnic groups? Or are the students in mixed social groupings? If so,
describe the groupings.
2. Describe how the learners interact with each other? What do they talk about?

Observation Report
Name of the School Observed: Bulacan Polytechnic College
School Address: Bulihan, City of Malolos, Bulacan
Date of Visit: January 11, 2022.

The senior high school TVL grade-11, 1st year college HRS 1B courses and 2nd year
college from BTVTED 2C under Mr. Edwardson Taguinod. The senior high school TVL
grade11 had 22 boys and 10 girls the overall total of 32 students. In HRS 1B had 20 boys and 23
girls the overall total of 43 students. While in BTVTED 2C had 6 boys and 24 girls the overall
total of 30 students. They all actively attain the classes. Before the discussion, the teacher always
starts with a prayer then after that the teacher will checked the attendance in call their names and
open their camera and unmute their mic to say present. I observe most of them are present and
few are absent. Then when the discussion was starts the students are listening carefully to their
teacher and actively response to their teacher. The learners interact by doing activities and asking
questions for any clarification of their curiosity of the lesson. By using chat box Sir Kenneth ask
question and then the student will answer using chat box or unmute their mic. For this strategy
Sir Kenneth know easily if the students are still listening to him. Based on what I observed that
the technic that Sir Kenneth used to maintain the lively environment in their class he has some
jokes for catch the attention of his students. Then sometimes the teacher recommends them to
watch a video that related to the lesson and its help to the student for them to understand the
lesson. After the discussion the teacher ask some question with regards of what they learn from
the topic then also the teacher ask students if they have a question and clarification from the
topic. In the end of the discussion, the teacher will open the task sheet and assessment from the
portal and the students will take usually in asynchronous. After he explained about the task sheet
and assessment, they always have a closing prayer.
You’re Analysis
1. Identify the persons who play key roles in the relationships and interactions in the classrooms.
What roles do they play?
-The teacher plays the role of a facilitator he or she guides and facilitates the learner when doing
their perspective works. There are students who plays to be a listener and gain knowledge from
the teacher. Due to pandemic, all are taking a virtual class. As I observed, through google meet
the students and teacher having a interaction like the teacher asking a question then students are
typing using chat box and sometimes they open they mic for them to speak.
2. Are students coming from the minority group accepted or rejected by the others? How is this
shown?
-Based on what I observed, even though they not meet yet because of pandemic they sincerely
accept each other. Through their respective group chat in messenger, they know each other.

3. How does the teacher influence the class interaction considering the individual differences of
the students?
-because of having a funny jokes and positive thoughts of sir Kenneth, he encouraged their
students to listen their class. It is a big influence for the students of being positive and lively in
class especially in this time of pandemic it can relief stress.

4. What factors influence the grouping of learners outside the classroom?

-Due to pandemic the students are not allowed have a physical contact. So that they not having a
group interaction in personal but they using messenger or other app for them to contact each
other and discuss about their group activity. For me having a grouping outside the classroom is a
good thing for learned form themselves, they feel the sense of belongingness and they share their
like and dislike because when they join a certain group this will reflect who you they are.

You’re Reflections

1. How did you feel being in that classroom? Did you feel a sense of oneness or unity among the
learners and between the teacher and the learners?

- Based on what I observed, I feel their respect and acceptance from them. I feel a sense of
oneness with the learners even though were in virtual class and I also get knowledge from sir
Kenneth when he is discussing, and can really help me and apply for my future profession. In the
future, I want my students to interact with me and their classmates in a way that they will never
hesitate to ask or answer. I want them to express freely what they feel in a good manner.

2. In the future, how would you want the learners in your classroom to interact? How will you
make this happen?

- In the future, I want my students to interact in a way that they will feel no tension at all. I want
them to express freely what they feel but in a manner that they will not offend their other
classmates. I will make this happen by briefing them and by letting they know the essence of
harmony in the classroom and making them realize that we will all benefit if we practice this
type of interaction.

3. How will you encourage all learners, regardless of religious, ethnic or racial background, to
interact and participate?

-I will encourage all learners regardless of their differences to interact and participate by letting
them know that even we have our own differences we still have to participate and interact with
others because after all we are in a world with different characteristics, attitudes, personalities,
religious beliefs and differences but we are all sons on God Almighty that’s why we should
communicate with one another no matter we have different views in life.

Observation Report

Name of the School Observed: Bulacan Polytechnic College

School Address: Bulihan, City of Malolos, Bulacan

Date of Visit: January 12, 2022.

As I observed, the students are listening to their teachers and they participate on the discussion
like giving an idea about the topics. The teacher used Power point for his discussion and
sometimes they watch some videos that related to the topic so for using that the students can
easily understand about the topic. It is important to them to see some application because their
course is tech-voc. Tech-voc is more on skills and application so using video that related to topic
they can understand easily. I noticed that this strategy is effective for the student to learned.

On this time, we can never avoid some connection error or loss connection on the internet
because it depends on the signal and location of students. Most of the time the teacher will ask
question if they have a clarification or give some ideas about the topic. I noticed that the teacher
in dealing on the different individual learning needs of the students. I can see that he doing great
because he applying methods which help to address the learning of the students. He know how to
impart knowledge in a way that his students will really learn and also know that student
background although we having virtual class.

You’re Analysis

1. Did your observation match the information given by the teacher? Were you able to correctly
identify who among the students performed well and who did not? What behavior helped you
identify them? (volunteering to answer, responding to teacher’s directions, etc).

- Yes, some of my observation match the information given by the teacher. Through virtual class
I still determined and identified those students who performed well through their behaviors
wherein these students are always answering through chat box or they open their mic to speak
when the teacher asks them several questions about the subject matter.

2. Describe the differences in ability levels of the students in the class. Is there a wide gap
between the students who are performing well and those that are not?

- As I observed, the students have a difference in ability level to cope up in the class. Those
students who not perform well where they take hard time to understand and cope up with the
lesson because of poor connection while those students who performed well wherein it takes less
time for them to catch up the lesson immediately. Both of them are still in line to cope up and
actively participating in the class in some point where they both differ on how much time it will
take before they really understand of what is the lesson all about.

3. Describe the methods used by the teacher in handling the students’ differences in
abilities. How did the students respond to the teacher?

- The teacher provides appropriate guide to those who need her support the most. He is very
approachable which is very good where his students are not hesitant to ask every detail for the
purpose of clarification of certain topic during the feedback session. The methods used by the
teacher in class in handling his students whether high or low achiever is very fair wherein even if
she focuses more on the students who needs her the most, he still didn’t forget the other students.
The teacher gives some jokes to be lively on the virtual class, this approach is effective to get the
attention of his students.

You’re Reflections

1. Recall the time when you were in the elementary or high school. Recall the high and low
achievers in your class. How did your teacher deal with differences in abilities? Was your
teacher effective?

– When I was in high school my academic performance was on average levels. My teacher treat
me and my classmates well and fairly where she uses certain teaching approaches which is very
effective to everyone by means of being approachable through fixing the learning gaps and
addressed it by means of helping on certain things difficult and hard for us to catch up. For
instance, when a lot of us didn’t catch up a certain topic she discussed she would gladly repeat it
all over again just to make us understand the discussion. She also provides varied of examples
that enable us to catch up the lesson effectively and able to addressed the learning difficulties in
certain aspect of topic.

2. With the principle of individual differences in mind, what methods and strategies will you
remember in the future to ensure that you will be able to meet the needs of both the high and low
achievers in your class?

- In the near future as I will be teaching the next generation, I will never forget this desire of
letting the students understand all of the lessons. It also could never been deny that there are
learners who is slow and high, it is not enough if only some can fully understand it. It must be
the class as a whole because all of them deserve equal right and treatment.

Virtual interview report

Based on my virtual interview to Kenneth Enriquez from HRS1D he managed their time
to spend for his study. He usually spending hours cramming the night before an exam and he
give an enough time for his activities and social activities. For his concentration on his study, he
taken away from the noisy sound like TV, radio and etc. He listened carefully from his teacher to
understand the lesson and he take down note some important details of the topic. He also
practicing how to pronounce properly and read it loudly. He often to find by himself through
visiting dictionary apps, google, dictionary books, article and etc. for searching unfamiliar word
in some ways he used to encircle and highlights the important information of the content to avoid
trouble in identifying the main ideas. Its good for him to easily review of all topics.

During virtual class, he said that rules and etiquettes of their class are followed. To know
for the satisfaction of spending time speaking the teachers, classmates and the reaction pedagogy
being employed by his teacher in relation to a conducive learning he choose the most adequate
rating from the scale 1-5, and 5 is the highest. In question 5.1 got the rate of 3, which is “I did
not get adequate support that I needed from the teachers and the school community”. For
question 5.2 got the rate of 4, which is “I’ve been in a welcoming community where I got all the
support I needed in schooling”. Then in question 6.1 got the rate of 2, which is “Everything is
predefined: The teacher completely failed to engage into his or her students”. Next is 6.2
question got the rate of 2, which is “The teachers were able to engage into his or her students,
albeit the approach implemented does not inspire curiosity and/or creativity”. For question 6.3
got the rate of 5, which is “The teachers were able to engage into his or her students and spark
the curiosity of the students”. Then for the last question in 7.1 that give comment what you
like/not like about the current classroom setup, he said that “for me, this set up is good
sometimes even though have a poor connection and lags”.

However, he said that he preferred the learning model is hybrid face-to-face/asynchronous

session. He said that it good to have a face to face and asynchronous. He thinks that it is
convenient for him to study in this time of pandemic.

You’re Reflection

1. From your virtual interview, what are the experiences of the learner in studying amidst the
pandemic? Explain your answer.

-Based on my interview, he experienced of changing routine in virtual class, he adjusted their

time for studying, destruction of his surrounding, poor connection lack of physical contact to his
classmate and teacher. There is a lot of things that prohibited in this time of pandemic and in his
case the course that he taking up is tech-voc that needs application.

2. Relating your data, what you have learned from the learners’ journey? What factors do you
think contribute to the development and over-all adjustment of the learner in virtual class?

-As a future teacher, based on the data that I gathered I learned from him that teacher needs their
support to develop the knowledge and skill of his/her student. The teacher should encourage and
gives inspiration for the students and because of that the students will actively attend their class
and participate in class. Then also the teacher should absorb changing, adjust and flexible
especially for this time of pandemic.

3. Does the communication between the virtual classes have an effect on the learner? If yes, what
are these effects?

-Yes, the effect of virtual classes is they can't share their true talents and sometimes other
students has no internet connection so even if they know the answers or they are smart they can't
show it to the class because of they have no internet connection.

4. As a future teacher, how would you establish good home-school collaboration? How can you
work well with the students? How can you help them? How can they help you?

-As a future teacher, I will develop the parent-teacher partnership where the relationship helps
the child feels good about school and be successful in school. Communicating well is a key
factor for making this relationship work where parents need information about what and how
their child is learning, and the teacher needs important feedback from the parent about the child’s
academic and social development.
